Sorry if someone already posted this. I just read this in an ESPN article and I had forgot that he had never made a playoff game. The Pels made it last year, but he was injured. It's one of those things that I've known, but it always surprises me when I remember it.
Was listening to a radio show that mentioned how little Boogie has earned since being traded to the Pelicans, and it struck me as one of the worst fork-in-the-road moments, financially at least, for a player that I can remember. Boogie really ended up losing out on roughly $200 million.
According to Wojnarowski, some of the reasoning for the King's deciding to trade him instead of offering the extension.
"The Kings simply decided that they no longer wanted to let Cousins’ volatility dictate the culture of the locker room, league sources said. In recent weeks, majority owner Vivek Ranadive had become more open to the front office’s willingness to trade Cousins, passing on the commitment to the $209 million extension this summer, league sources said. Cousins’ uneven behavior in recent weeks chipped away at Ranadive’s resolve to keep him, and he started to listen more closely to the front office’s push to trade him for assets and rebuild, sources said. Two incidents in particular — an expletive-laced remark Cousins made about Golden State after Sacramento’s overtime win over the Warriors on Feb. 4 and a 17th technical foul, resulting in a one-game suspension, against New Orleans on Feb. 12 — caused Ranadive to have serious concerns about tethering the franchise to Cousins long term."
Boogie Cousins - 14/6/3/1/1 on 5/11 FG (3/4 from 3) +21 and 6 fouls in 15 mins. He is clearly still trying to slowly adjust and he's already a monster.
We're all fucked.
Every offseason highlight reels go around on social media and conversations are brought up on Boogie “walking” so that Jokic and Embiid could run , which is ASININE. If you go on bleacher report insta right now, you’ll find and another boogie post and under it comments stating that “Prime Boogie” was better than Embiid is now. Truth is that he was never a winning player, was a lacklustre defender, was a twit AND had a poisonous attitude that affected everyone around him . He is not even on the same tier as KAT as far as I’m concerned.
EDIT: I take back the statement that he wasn’t in the same tier as KAT. My bias showed a bit there, he definitely in the same tier and maybe a bit better.
Who’s the scapegoat now?
Source:
DeMarcus Cousins was frequently blamed (or to use his words "scapegoated") for the team's struggles while in Sacramento. Since his departure the organization has remained rudderless and is currently 0-3 in the Orlando bubble.
As he said back then:
They supported DeMarcus, and I like DeMarcus a lot. But I believe we are going to be in a better position in two years. I want to hear again from these same people in two years. If I'm right, great. If I'm wrong, I'll step down. But if I go down, I'm going down my way.
I won't lie, I also thought that trading Cousins for Hield was wrong, but the Kings have now a young and very talented squad with Hield and Fox as it's stars. Vlade was right. Well played.
Edit: Changed the format, because i first posted it from Reddit mobile.
