Hi everyone, 20F Gen X music fan here. I have a music question, I’m looking for recommendations for that early hip hop music, starting as early as when Rappers Delight by the Sugarhill Gang came out, all through the 80s and into the 90s, any music recommendations from that specific period would be much be appreciated. I'm Uriguayan and asking this because I've been thinking about this. I mean, as far as I understand it, hip hop is considered "ghetto" by Americans and listened mostly by low income population.
But as far as I know, that's not the case here. It might be ignorance of my part as I enjoy other completely different music scene (gothic rock, some metal, some electronic) but I think the low income population around here listen to "cumbia villera" and "reggaeton" because low income citizen in general don't understand (and don't like nor want to learn) English and even people that likes rap or hip hop prefer Spanish speaking artists. Is that true?
Regarding myself, the only American rapper I can name is Eminem haha do people listen to this music genre in your country?

Ahhh, Limp Bizkit is a great example for this discussion, so let's take " nookie" for example, I love the Flow Style in the chorus and how the rap moment before gets transformed into that chorus but I see that song as 70% rap which the verses spot are somehow on a Boom Bap tempo that just amazed me for the first listening and I'm amazed how a lot of nu metal bands are not doing JUST Rap songs, or I just had bad luck at this point )), Anyways if you have someone recommandations in this way I'll be glad, now back to the discussion, is it true that nu metal is really a form of hip hop music? Cuz I feel it too when it comes to Slipknot, Corey Taylor, and Mike Shinnoda from LP?
It's maybe me or just because the HipHop influenced that much nu metal I'm so obsessed with it, I feel like I was a rap fan and now I'm just more hardcore at this point ))
