: 90% (49 reviews) with 7.10 in average rating
Critics consensus: A nerve-wracking continuation of its predecessor, A Quiet Place Part II expands the terrifying world of the franchise without losing track of its heart.
: 73/100 (24 critics)
As with other movies, the scores are set to change as time passes. Meanwhile, I'll post some short reviews on the movie.
Taking on solo screenwriting credit in his taut follow-up, director John Krasinski again foregrounds that disorienting premise of a modern world in which noise can get you killed, as the same characters this time desperately struggle to protect one another without their fallen paterfamilias. It’s another breathless chamber piece, expertly crafted to pack dread into every nerve-rattling sound.
-
The conceit that drives this burgeoning franchise — aliens, but they hear really well — makes for effective enough horror and tension, but Krasinski’s very real, very deep affection for the family he has placed in the middle of all this is what seems destined to keep truly growing. As his chops as an action and horror director have only increased, care of those natty set pieces and plenty of real ingenuity, Krasinski hasn’t lost sight of the human drama that makes it all work. Krasinski never meant to be a horror guy, but he’s always known what scares people.
-: B+
Simmonds is an excellent performer: bold, confident and forthright, holding her own opposite the alpha-emoting presence of Murphy. In the end, it’s impossible not to see these gross creatures as Covid metaphors, and impossible not to delight in their comeuppance. What a pleasure to see a big, brash picture like this on the big screen.
-: 4/5
Krasinski assembles a recognizable geography that makes the introduction of an off-shore colony, as well as a band of survivors who look like they just ambled out of “The Hills Have Eyes,” seem within reach of the Abbotts as they fight both to stay alive and to repel the alien menace. With “A Quiet Place Part II,” the actor-turned-filmmaker has grown in confidence and skill, creating a sequel that’s at least as riveting if not more so than its predecessor.
-
The new “Quiet Place” doesn’t do anything fancy nor does it need to: Adding a few new wrinkles and busting out of the “Alien”-style claustrophobia bent, the sequel is a solid outing that’ll sound good enough for folks who, like the Abbots, are also venturing out in a world that feels a little changed.
-: 3/4
As an experience, “A Quiet Place Part II” is still riveting and intense and should check all the boxes for most audiences, especially in the “I just wanna be gripped and entertained” post-pandemic age. For those looking for a little more depth and soul and a movie to fully coalesce in the end? Well, you might have to wait for the next chapter for some true thematic and emotional closure, but still, it’ll be hard to argue this won’t be an escapist thrill for most audiences in theaters, at least.
-: B/B+
Whisper it. A Quiet Place Part II might lack the smarts and novelty of its predecessor but it serves up strong set- pieces, Millicent Simmonds shines and Krasinski remains a director to watch.
-: 3/5
But when A Quiet Place Part II really focuses inward, at the deep loss and rebuilding that the Abbotts are enduring as the world continues to crumble, it's a triumph. The way Krasinski manages to build visual chaos with such a vivid human core at its center suggests A Quiet Place actually has the staying power of a major modern horror epic.
-: A-
Between Simmonds’ superb lead, the suspense, the slivers of hope, A Quiet Place Part II is worth making a noise for. Just pipe down in the cinema.
-: 4/5

So in A Quiet Place 2, Regan and Emmett find an island just off the coast of the USA where a bunch of refugees could just live normally because the aliens couldn’t swim. These people were able to talk freely without any of the super tense forced quiet that our main characters had to endure for most of the franchise
Well, that got me thinking of just how many islands there are in the world. The aliens came by meteorite, and even if they landed in the Americas and somewhere in Europe, Asia or Africa (which are all connected by land, and therefore fucked) there are so many places isolated by water that the aliens couldn’t have reached them all. A short list:
Madagascar
The UK (although due to the global societal collapse all these people in a small place likely had trouble)
Japan (same as UK)
Australia (would’ve been fine lol, plenty of space in the outback and hardy ppl)
Greenland and the islands of Northern Canada (many populations here live off hunting for food anyway, so they’d adapt quickly)
The Philippines
Indonesia (also big population)
Hawaii
It’s been a year since the invasion and we haven’t seen any signs of civilization surviving overseas, no planes or radio signals. If all the main continents except Australia and Antarctica fell to the aliens this could explain why, since society still would have collapsed, but there’d also be hundreds of millions of people who went unslaughtered due to living on islands
That’s a hell of lot more than we’ve seen in the movies, and it’s likely at least a few island nations would have people preparing to fend off any aliens that wash up in derelict ships (even though, let’s be real, that’s a freak accident and borderline impossible for remote islands like Hawaii)

This low budget has to be intentional, right? I imagine John Krasinski wants to rely on story-telling rather than $100M budget monster action movie. I feel like many good original movies receive a substantial budget for the sequel but ends up sacrificing story for action which results in a horrible movie experience. First example that comes to mind is Train to Busan and its sequel Peninsula.
