Is flying international on economy really that bad? Is flying international on economy really that bad?

I’m going on my first overseas flight soon and I never really minded flying domestic - not always super comfy but I just put my headphones in and close my eyes and we’re landing before I know it. But I noticed a lot of people on this sub will ask for advice for flying economy and half the comments are just “upgrade to business/first class” which I wouldn’t be able to afford traveling at all if I did that. I remember asking my big + tall dad recently if it was worth it to upgrade to premium economy and he was like “nah you’ll be fine, the seats on international flights are way more comfortable, I’ve done it plenty of times and didn’t mind it”. Is it just people having different experiences on different airlines? Unrealistic expectations? Genuinely wondering because it kind of surprised me a bit

edited to clarify I’d consider myself average/medium height and weight for an adult (5’7), young, traveling from US to Asia, longest flight is 10 hrs on a 787
