From Archivio Antonioni

Rome, April 5, 1975.

Dear Michelangelo,

You know Iโ€™m lazy, distracted, always busy with my own messes and hardly ever go to the cinema. Lately I couldnโ€™t find the will and the right mood to go see the film of a friend.
After spending two hours in your company, and experiencing your agonies like in a dream, I want to tell you, among the ones I saw, this is the most complete, the purest, the most essential of your films. So authentic to make me feel embarrassed. Now I know you at a deeper level dear friend, and love you even more.
A very cruel, sharp film, but very sweet at the same time. A limbo-like, bare sweetness.
The silence in those dreams that warn you youโ€™ve already been among the dead for a while and it isnโ€™t that scary or despairing, but rather the only way to live. But I donโ€™t wanna get too complicated or even worse, seem confused. I just wanna tell you that everythingโ€™s fine, dear Michelangelo. Come on, back to work for the next film.

Sending you a hug.
