May 16th. In my mind was an imaginary circle around this date for an NBA callup. The final deadline.

After a year in the CBA where I overcame mental barriers from my past, I KNEW I was still an NBA player. Teams all asked if I still had the hunger, health and skill to hang in the NBA. They wanted to see me hoop in-person.

So I gave up a season overseas to go down to the G League - a move few vets dare to make. Ive always known I need to jump through extra hoops to prove I belong so this was par for the course. Im really proud of what I accomplished - I killed it in the G League and objectively showed it being a league leader in all the categories a PG should and shooting career-highs across the board.

For months, I watched as others got contracts, chances, opportunities. I told myself I just need ONE ten-day contract, one chance to get back on the floor and I would blow it out the water. After all that's how my entire career started - off one chance to prove myself.

For reasons I'll never fully know, that chance never materialized. But I proved Im better than ever and an NBA player. But like I've said before...dream big dreams, risk big heartache.

I know I'm blessed - I've had an NBA career beyond my wildest dreams. I've had the luxury of taking a year to chase a dream w/o worrying about paying bills. My family, support team, business partners all waited on me as I gave up being a go-to player in China to go back to the G League.

To the next generation of Asian American ballers - man, I so wish I could have done more on the NBA court to break more barriers - especially now- but you guys got next. When you get your opportunity, do NOT hesitate. Don't worry whether anyone else thinks you belong there. The world never will. When you get your foot in the door, KICK THAT DOOR DOWN. And then bring others up with you.

I didnt get it done this season, but I have no regrets and hold my head high. As for whats next, I trust what God has in store for me. "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Thanks to everyone whose rolled w me on this journey. I love you all ❤️

Overseas update: Jeremy Lin, Jimmer, Psycho-T, and more

Last it was covered on these boards, an unhappy Jimmer Fredette had quit summer league with Golden State so that he could better weigh his future playing options. Rather than returning to China, where he averaged nearly 37 a game over two seasons, he decided to make the jump up to EuroLeague with Panthinaikos in Athens, Greece. This team and league is solid- they are coached by Rick Pitino and won their division last year. Owner Dimitrios Giannakopoulos has been chasing Jimmer since 2014 (what a strange fixation) and was ecstatic to finally sign him. Side-note, this same team paid an unhappy Dominique Wilkins (Celtics were rebuilding and Wilkins, then 35, wanted to win) 3.5 million a year back in 95/95 to play with them. Jimmer will be making the same amount of money this year.
So far Jimmer has played solid in a reduced role, averaging a team-high 14.3 ppg in 23 minutes on 53/53/92 shooting splits through 28 games.
Say what you will about his defense and attitude, but the man was put on this earth to shoot the rock.

With the GOAT Stephen Marbury finally gone, Beijing Ducks needed a new American star. In August Jeremy Lin signed with them for $3 million after acknowledging on Taiwanese TV that he thought the NBA had given up on him. If you think his treatment was rough in the NBA you should tune in to a Ducks game; Lin's on the ground more than he's on his feet. In fact he was knocked down 25 times in the first 3 games. Contrary to Jimmer's time in China, Lin has embraced the team aspect and has played conservatively offensively, ensuring his teammates get good looks.
He's currently averaging 24.9ppg 6a/6reb on 48/38/84 shooting splits through 21 games.
BTW, I know many on here feel bad for him, but he had a great career, got 65 million and an NBA ring.

How many of you knew Tyler Hansbrough was still playing bball? In fact, a month ago Hansbrough dropped 49 and 22 in a 108-105 victory over the Jiangsu Dragons. I'm sure those would have been some riveting drop-step-filled highlights if the video actually existed.
Through 12 games Psycho-T is averaging 32/13 OFF THE BENCH on 55% from the field.
He's also thrown in a 3-point shot (18%, key word 'thrown') and is shooting a career high % from FT (87%).
Psycho-T isn't new to China. Prior to 2020 he played a season with Guangzho (21ppg) and a year with Zhejiang (20ppg) after leaving the D league behind. He's also started a podcast called Tobacco Road. His co-host? Gerald Henderson, who you might remember from the forearm shiver that left Hansbrough bleeding --and furious, as he went after the ejected Henderson-- in N.C's win over Duke in 2007.

There's loads of Americans in Europe and Asia right now, and some of them like Green Bay's Kiefer Sykes are balling. But it's finals week and I've procrastinated enough with this post, so maybe next week I'll cover some of them.

2nd edit: It's amazing how productive you can be when the alternative is studying. I went ahead and created a blog. Only three articles up, but I'll take any feedback.

Other coaches are playing him wrong. Making him stand in one corner to wait for the ball, that's not Linsanity at all.
