‘Congrats on the win! Here’s one less day to prepare!’

Thanks, Assholes.

(This shouldn’t happen. Keep both AFC games on Saturday so every team gets equal prep time. Fucking ridiculous)

[–]DoABarrelRollStarFox33 150 points151 points  (10 children)

It does give us an extra day for NFCCG tho if we win...

[–]Vexans27oof 121 points122 points  (1 child)

[–]BarackSaysRandall Cunningham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tfw I have work off the next day because MLK Day

Pls Vikings, fulfill my wildest dreams

[–]spazmo_warrior 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I like this sentiment

[–]SpaceKoala34 5 points6 points  (5 children)

But it also gives or opponents the day

[–]Cupcake-WarriorSkolmali 7 points8 points  (4 children)

No...Packers/Seattle play on Sunday. So WHEN we win, we get the extra day.

[–]SpaceKoala34 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Ah I though NFC played on the same day

[–]HalobenderFWT 2 points3 points  (2 children)

They did.

Until next week.

[–]wiedmaier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except all of the remaining NFC teams DO play on the same day in the Conference Championship round.

[–]SpaceKoala34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gathered that

[–]DCBadger92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is another reason why it’s dumb. Put AFC in Saturday and NFC on Sunday. Both teams get 7 or 8 days in their respective conference. Just make it as fair as possible while still making your extraordinary amounts of money.

[–]DrKoooolAidOoooohhhhh yeaaaahh! 22 points23 points  (11 children)

I think they give both if the one seeds the Saturday game so they have an extra day before championship weekend.

[–]HalobenderFWT 34 points35 points  (10 children)

Newp. This was the first year I can remember that both AFC games were Saturday and both NFC were Sunday.

Of the 8 remaining playoff teams, we’re the only team to lose a day of prep. The Texans gain a prep day. Everyone else stays the same aside from the 1 seeds which only get 13 days to prep while the 2 seeds get 14.

It’s a dumb formula. It’s the playoffs - everyone should have an equal prep time. I have no idea why they changed it.

[–]paul_f 5 points6 points  (6 children)

“Newp” (?)

[–]cusomanhorned v 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Nope"

[–]cardmanimgur 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes and no. You're right that this is the first time for the AFC/NFC split, but it doesn't guarantee anything for equal prep time. 1 seeds always play Saturday Divisional. But Vikings/Saints would've most likely been Sunday game either way. Assumption would be that 3-seed Saints would win and would be playing Packers next Sunday. So even under the old formula, Vikings still most likely get one less day to prepare.

Honestly the NFC/AFC split makes a lot of sense to guarantee equal prep time, they just need to keep it for Divisional round too.

[–]DCBadger92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don’t get the justification. If they use Saturday and Sunday 7 pm starts, their ratings are going to high. It’s got to be rare the the 2 highest sought out games are from the same conference.

[–]cheesepierogibehind enemy lines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about which time slots will get the most TV viewers. Nothing else

[–]AlbertoRossonero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a benefit the one seed earns.

[–]Mr-Irrelevant-I like Matt Wile 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It sucks but the silver lining is how both offenses are similar given their roots going back to Kyle Shanahan.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

*Papa Shanahan

[–]Mr-Irrelevant-I like Matt Wile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I had the wrong Shanahan. It's my inability to remember which Carr is which all over again.

[–]scarykicks 6 points7 points  (1 child)

And we had overtime. Teams probably beat and exhausted.

[–]HalobenderFWT 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean...it was only 9 plays in OT and Thielen did most of the damage on one play.

Defense got to rest. Lol

[–]onethreeone 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Ah but it gives the 9ers one less day to prepare for us, who had to be focusing on the Saints previously

[–]Gamblor14This isn’t Detroit, man! 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Packers would have been preparing for the Saints. 49ers would have been preparing for Philly/Seattle.

[–]onethreeone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but either way it wasn't us

[–]MorningxafterForever SKOL! 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus we rely on Sunday morning games for Kirk to recharge his holy powers at church. Sadly they wear off fast, like within five hours. Come Monday they’re completely gone.

[–]veecheech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pissed when I figured this out - I have to work! But of course my Sunday is wide open.

[–]blackdragonfangJJ's underwear 51 points52 points  (10 children)

And another game of listening to Cris Collinsworth sucking off the opposing quarterback no matter how well Kirk and the Vikings are playing.

[–]Tschmelz 36 points37 points  (2 children)

Pretty sure Collinsworth ignores Jimmy too. They’ll be talking about Rodgers all game.

[–]blackdragonfangJJ's underwear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

True, he is in love with the guy.

[–]TotallynotEMusk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am amazed that Joe and Troy didnt talk about Rodgers for this last game

[–]RIP-Tom-PettyHarrison “Ford” Smith 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Better than Joe and Troy tho

[–]blackdragonfangJJ's underwear 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Yeah they were pretty bad yesterday. Joe seemed lost most of the day.

[–]ender200j22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Troy called Murray kamera like 5 times

[–]Ninja_Bum 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I feel like the entire broadcast team was pretty muted after the win. It's like they had all their talking points erased and suddenly were all "welp...uh there you have it."

[–]blackdragonfangJJ's underwear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like they weren't expecting the Vikings to be in it the entire game.

[–]LeeVanChief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They were mad that they had to do yet another MIN-NO playoff game which their favored team didnt win

[–]x1009Kwesi is our savior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man i really hope we go through and beat GB there. That would be such a sweet Superbowl appearance.

[–]mnguy12000 93 points94 points  (6 children)

I dont think I could handle NFC champ game vs Pack. I seriously might have a heart attack

[–]Bozzz1 41 points42 points  (5 children)

I don't think I could bare it if we lose to them 3 times in one season. I was happy they were on the other side of the bracket.

[–]parkwayy 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If someone would tell me that we'd beat SF, but get housed by GB the next week.... I'd say, lose in SF please D:

[–]Thefreak84 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Pretty sure you meant "bear" but I like it better this way

[–]Bozzz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't remember which was right when typing it out and I was too lazy to look it up so I just guessed

[–]Workforfb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not bears. Their season’s over.

[–]mnguy12000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the third getting them to the superbowl!

[–]McRawfflesSmith Smash! 21 points22 points  (10 children)

This is the playoff revenge tour though, getting playoff revenge against the Seahawks for '15 would be just as sweet

[–]lordofchubsGood Christian Ponder supporter 12 points13 points  (5 children)

That would make san fran an unfortunate casualty of war ):

[–]McRawfflesSmith Smash! 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Revenge for... 1970? 1998? 1990?

[–]lordofchubsGood Christian Ponder supporter 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Ahh I am too young to remember any of these games, so all I really know them for is losing to us on the last play back in the favre days

[–]McRawfflesSmith Smash! 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only slightly remember the 1998 game and none of the others, was just trying to come up with playoff revenge narratives :D

[–]LeeVanChief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revenge for Tomsula beating us on Monday night

[–]muzukashidesuyovikings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vikings are 1-4 against the 49ers in the playoffs. The good but not quite great Vikings teams of the late 80s went to San Fran to die, except the one win in '87 where AC set the all time record for receiving yards in a playoff game.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Hawks x Vikings NFCCG would be very cool

[–]Eadwyn 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That's what I'm rooting for. Raised in MN, but have lived in Seattle for 15 years. Still would root for vikings though.

[–]bl84work 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m a Vikes fan and my wife is a hawks fan, itd be cool to get a rematch and the one of our teams plays Super Bowl no matter what, plus I hate the packers and she hates the 49ers so it works out

[–]MorningxafterForever SKOL! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but I really don’t want the Seattle to win another Super Bowl any time soon. They’ll just paint more of the city blue and neon green if that happens, and put a big-ass 12 on the few things it’s not already emblazoned on there.

[–]vbullinger22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No! I'm not rooting for the Packers to win!

[–]Im_Lightmare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We would’ve earned that SB appearance for sure then. Running the road gauntlet through three 13-3 teams.

[–]doormatt26 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah no thanks, I'll go to Seattle. Way too much riding on a NFCCG at Lambeau where a loss also sends them through. I don't want it.

[–]HoboSkid 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That would be quite the shitshow... Especially if we lost

[–]Augustus420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then again, imagine if we won 🤔

[–]tabatt32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way.

[–]greygrey_goose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

coming from a Niners fan, you should post this in the Niners sub this is great lmao

[–]multiballs 17 points18 points  (6 children)

We all know the 49ers have been planning for FTS. They had to start over and scramble to prepare for the Vikings. If anything, we got the head start knowing we would win this game since we knew our matchup last week.

[–]dhtdhyJust one before i die 4 points5 points  (1 child)

If anything the 9ers were expecting us to lose therefore playing the winner of eagles/Seahawks

[–]multiballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were already looking past that game too. Trust me. I know these things. I live in SF and am Jimmy ‘jawline’ G.

[–]redbudfarm 13 points14 points  (0 children)
