If you're interested in watching more basketball over the NBA offseason, you may be interested in watching the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). The league's 4th season kicks off tonight with a triple-header:
7:00PM - Hamilton Honey Badgers vs Montreal Alliance
7:30PM - Ottawa Blackjacks vs Fraser Valley Bandits
7:30PM - Saskatchewan Rattlers vs Niagara River Lions
Three new expansion teams have been added for this season for a total of 10 teams, and the season has been lengthened to 100 games. The season will culminate in playoffs beginning on August 4th. CEBL players such as multi-MVP Xavier Moon and Lindell Wigginton received NBA call-ups during the 21-22 season.
As for the style of play, the league uses FIBA rules but the players are used to the faster-paced, more athletic American style so the end result is somewhere in between the EuroLeague and NBA, although the talent level obviously is lower.
Personally I'm most interested in watching the brand new Scarborough Shooting Stars, who are headlined by J Cole and Jalen Harris. Their first game is at 7:00PM on May 26th vs the Guelph Nighthawks.
From what I can tell the games are broadcast on CBC Gem and CBC Sports as well as the league's own CEBL+ streaming service.

Canadian sports really get buried by their American counterparts. For example, Major League Soccer taking all the spotlight away from the Canadian Premier League. It was only recently that I realized the same thing happens in basketball. You may have heard of the Toronto Raptors, but apparently we also have the Montreal Alliance and Vancouver Bandits up here competing in the . This league is technically the largest one in the country, too, with ten teams against the nine in the CFL and eight in the CPL.
So, if you ever wanted to go local with basketball, you might have yourself a cool new option. Not a sports guy myself, but I do like seeing Canadian athletes getting more spotlight!

The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday that it has entered into a partnership with Bitbuy, a leading Canadian cryptocurrency platform, that will enable the league to pay players a portion of their salaries in Bitcoin. The partnership will be the first of its kind for any professional sports league in North America and comes as the league is set to tip off its third season June 24.
Full announcement:
Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.
