You, you conniving, craven, pathetic worm. You did this

[–]23Enigma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

23 seconds is the perfect amount of time.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but to me it looks like he's scrunching his face to make sure he can make good facial expressions with the wig glued on.

[–]EifertGreenLazor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably pulling his real hair underneath

[–]bigC_94M'Baku 391 points392 points  (8 children)

That's a good wig, I always thought his hair was just like that lol

[–]_IratePirate_ 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Same. I've been actually questioning in my head for a few episodes why Loki's hair changed from spiky to curly. It looks good either way, but it kinda feels like the continuity is broken

[–]tobbe1337Thor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

his current hairline looked so different from his fake one so i noticed immediately lol

[–]Murphouss 659 points660 points  (37 children)

I actually thought that was his real hair...

[–]beer_me_twiceSpider-Man 292 points293 points  (5 children)

Erin Moriarty also uses a wig as Starlight on The Boys and they even show you her with it and without. It’s incredible how hair & makeup can transform the actor.

[–]KptKondo 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Wasn't that part of her in-series costume as starlight? When she's out of costume it's her real hair afair

[–]Ygomaster07Jimmy Woo 45 points46 points  (3 children)

Why did she wear a wig?

[–]fearnodarkness1 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Volume, continuity, style. Real hair can be very tricky and since wig technology is so good, why wouldn’t you opt for the easier option

[–]Perca_fluviatilis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's part of her character costume in universe

[–]helvetica_unicorn 69 points70 points  (5 children)

It’s common to wear a wig for continuity purposes but also the actor’s hair health. Keeping hIs hair black would be difficult. Black hair dye can be notoriously hard to lift.

The actor who played Draco Malfoy said that bleach ruined his hair for a while. Ariana Grande said the same thing about the red hair dye she used on her tv show. Wigs are so much easier to maintain. They’re made of human hair so they can be dyed and they’re custom made. Often you can have more than one or you can repair an existing unit.

[–]leif777The Mandarin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You also have the advantage of having a backup. I'll bet insurance companies insist on them using wigs for characters with expensive days.

[–]bummedout1492 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Tom Felton has aged terribly , the poor guy

[–]btmvideos37Red Skull 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Really? He looks insanely attractive to me

[–]thejonslaught 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was that before or after he picked a fight with the Planet the Apes?

[–]TotalAdhesiveness778 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Me too! Because sometimes Tom Hiddleston actually have long hair

[–]____mynameis____Winter Soldier 122 points123 points  (17 children)

Tom Hiddleston had his own hair for Thor 1, The Avengers and LOKI series. For the rest, he had a wig on.

[–]IrishWebster 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I KNEW it. His hair looks MUCH better in the ones he has his own hair in, and it looks much more greasy and stringy in the ones he wears a wig for.

[–]Funmachine 52 points53 points  (13 children)

He might have had his own hair for Thor buy he absolutely did not not have his own hair in The Avengers or in Loki. You can see his real hair length in the D. B. Cooper scene. It's much easier for continuity to just wear a wig. That way you can do reshoots and pick-ups without having to get someone to cut the hair exactly the same.

[–]iwannalynchLoki (Avengers) 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's definitely his hair, he started growing his hair out during the promotion of Ragnarok, has had his hair at around shoulder-length since the promotion of Infinity War (afaik), and dyed it black for Loki.

[–]____mynameis____Winter Soldier 28 points29 points  (11 children)

Extensions maybe. But the hairline we see is definitely his in both Avengers 1 and LOKI. In LOKI, it's completely his hair, I'm confident.

If you notice, Hiddleston in LOKI is having slightly different hair lengths(which is only evident if you randomly rewatch the episodes ) throughout the show. Same is the case for Di Martino. Longer production coupled with covid breaks kinda affected their hairstyles.

About continuity, some people did point out the obvious hair length difference in that Endgame scene and the Vietnam(?)scene where TVA arrests him.

[–]thejonslaught 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Mongolia. Gobi Desert.

[–]____mynameis____Winter Soldier 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oops. Should have got that right. Thank you.

[–]thejonslaught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, mate. I saw the question mark. Great points all around.

[–]Funmachine 3 points4 points  (7 children)

But the hairline we see is definitely his

They fit the wig to the hairline. It's absolutely not his hair. Everybody wears a wig in MCU. Dr. Strange is a wig, Captain America is a wig, Captain Marvel is a wig. Gamora is a wig. Black Widow is a wig. Scarlett Witch is a wig, Thor etc.

It's just far far easier and far less time consuming to wear a wig for everyone involved. Especially when the character doesn't have your hair colour. You don't have to keep retouching roots and restyling. It's simple, easy and makes continuity more achievable.

[–]9mackenzie 14 points15 points  (3 children)

It’s usually up to the actor (as long as they have the hair/hairline to support the role). Source- husband works as a makeup effects artist

[–]marcybojohn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This seems like the most educated answer, so I am going to listen to them.

[–]____mynameis____Winter Soldier 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a person who has always been fascinated with wigs, I can certainly see the difference when its a wig or not. Then again, thats what you see and I am wrong, its your opinion. I'm open for debate.

It's just far far easier and far less time consuming to wear a wig for everyone involved....

I know, I know.... But why would it contradict what I said??? It's definitely one of the reason why they prefer wigs. It doesn't mean that they always must do that.... Sebastian Stan had extensions in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and had his own hair in Civil War. Scarlett Johansson dyed her hair red in Iron Man 2 and the Avengers. Elizabeth Olsen had her own in AOU.The choice always depends on what they want. It's not fixed in concrete.

[–]Boba_Fet042Captain America 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They didn’t have Clint wear a wig for Endgame and they had to retouch his mohawk everyday it seemed.

[–]fortherex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're downvoted... it's true, most of the actors use wigs. I discovered this all the way back when The Winter Soldier came out, I was looking at behind the scenes stuff for it and boom, Evans and Johansson were having wigs fitted to them. I went on to discover that this isn't uncommon in filmmaking in Hollywood. It's impressive.

[–]dtwhitecp 6 points7 points  (1 child)

so is this an old gif?

[–]____mynameis____Winter Soldier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, sometime circa 2016-2017, I presume....

[–]Murphouss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that wigs exists guys.....

I just thought that it was his real hair because I've seen him have it that length naturally when he's not filming anything.

[–]Funmachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone wears a wig in the MCU. It's easier for continuity, quicker than styling etc. Even Benedict Cumberbatch and Chris Evans are wearing hairpieces.

[–]devilsephirothRed Skull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a natural red head

[–]king12807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]leif777The Mandarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised at how many wigs are being used in film. Wigs are more reliable than hair and you can have a back up.

[–]Rorako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently in some movies it is and some it isn’t.

[–]Silkysocks777Loki (Avengers) 263 points264 points  (4 children)

[–]Gr3yHound40 5 points6 points  (1 child)

FACTS

[–]LowKey_Loki_Fan 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I like his hair the length it is in the show. I think it's perfect.

[–]Gr3yHound40 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same I feel like that look suits Loki a lot more than long hair does. But then again I also liked short hair Thor so there's that.

[–]246ArianaGrande135 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think he looks pretty with long hair and adorable with short hair

[–]420highevolutionary 64 points65 points  (6 children)

headcanon: Loki uses an illusion in MCU movies to make his hair look like that. In Loki his hair looks different because he's not using an illusion anymore / he kinda just got fucked up in general so he probably hasn't been able to shampoo and condition recently.

[–]420highevolutionary 11 points12 points  (2 children)

He also looks like he's aged in the TVA because he's not making himself look younger with illusions

(Or maybe being in the TVA takes a toll on one's youth lol)

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I am afraid there is no in universe explanation. Tom Hiddleston irl is aging in a way that is not good for playing such a character. Loki's father Laufey looked like he hasn't aged much in 1000 years. Ruling that kingdom is definitely more stressful than feeling "no one likes me 😢".

[–]420highevolutionary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's just a headcanon

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

How does his hair look different in loki?

[–]420highevolutionary 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hard to explain, it just looks messier, shorter, less black, hairline has receded further

[–]____mynameis____Winter Soldier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's sporting his actual hair and hairline since 2012....

[–]extradabbingsauce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? That's clearly Tommy wiseau

[–]cloobydoobydoo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy he genuinely enjoys playing Loki. Seems like we’ll have him around for a good long time. Sylvie would be welcome as well I love her. We also definitely need to get Kid Loki back.

[–]47-Rambaldi 41 points42 points  (0 children)

No way it only takes 22 seconds to do.

[–]Apple-card 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I thought the Loki hair was all natural until now

[–]Lincolnruin 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Apparently it was only a wig for Ragnarok. For the Loki series it's apparently his real hair.

[–]leftshoe18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand it's completely his natural hair for Thor and Loki, his natural hair with extensions for Avengers, and wigs for Thor 2, Thor 3 and Infinity War.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Wait so he's not pale and greasy irl? Damn

[–]TheAngerMonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, he IS pale. He self identifies as "an over-grown ginger kid from Wimbledon."

[–]kcosmos 21 points22 points  (1 child)

That wig was a choice 💀

[–]0zer0zer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah? I don't get what you're trying to say here really.

[–]Stillwindows95[🍰] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loki theme tune is by far my favourite. It's so creepy and weird.

[–]My_Immortal_Flesh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love our hair and makeup team on set 🙌✅

[–]theLegomadhatterDrax 9 points10 points  (28 children)

Wait it isn’t his hair?

[–]rationalphi 62 points63 points  (27 children)

This is from Ragnarok, which was a wig. In the TV show it is his hair dyed black.

[–]theLegomadhatterDrax 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That explains why it felt so static

[–]zedabyu 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oh that was interesting! No wonder his hair looked so fake in ragnarok. Is that the only movie he wore a wig? Cause it looked natural in the first 2 thor movies

[–]Rimavelle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Think in Avengers he had extensions, and later for the Endgame 2012 scene, he definitely had a wig to simulate that old hairstyle.

Not sure about Dark World but also looks like a wig to me (judging by the hairline).

The first Thor and Loki series are 100% his natural hair (with black dye).

[–]Funmachine 2 points3 points  (23 children)

It's not his hair in the show either. His hair was short, as you can see by the D. B. Cooper scene.

[–]rationalphi 4 points5 points  (3 children)

[–]fortherex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you

[–]Funmachine -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Thats not a source for it not being a wig. That's just Tom having similar hair. Scarlett Johanson has long hair, she wears a wig. Lizzie Olsen has long hair, she wears a wig. Chris Evans had longer hair, still wore a hairpiece during Infinity War. He had short hair, still wore a hairpiece during Civil War. Chris Hemsworth had longer hair, still wore extensions during TDW and AoU. What your actual hair is like has nothing to do with whether you wear a hairpiece or extensions or a wig or not.

[–]____mynameis____Winter Soldier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actors of MCU with characteristic hairstyles or different hair colour to their characters do wear wigs most of the time. But there are lots of instances where the actors did take the effort to grow it out and colour the hair. (Johansson in IM2, Stan in CW, Olsen in AOU etc) Some grew/coloured their hair and then used extensions.( Stan in TWS, Hemsworth ) We even have Karen Gillian who shaved her head for GOTG1. We shouldn't pretend like these things don't happen at all. Hiddleston is sporting his hair in the show. He did grow it out and colour it. If he took the effort to grow it out that long and dye it black, I don't see why he should be using a wig. Or extensions since his hair is the same length in the show. Not to mention that his receding hairline is very very noticeable due to him switching to his real hair after so many years.

If you are bit picky about hairstyles, the difference between natural hairline and wig hairline is pretty obvious.( It began with my obsession with Natasha's hairstyles ) But its kinda difficult to say when they use extensions. Since Loki's hair in the show is very very move-y and bouncy, I'm sure it hasn't got any extensions too.

[–]BeginningShallot8961Black Panther 5 points6 points  (7 children)

It IS his real hair in the series

[–]Funmachine 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Source?

[–]Rimavelle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can tell coz his hair changes lenght throughout the show. If he had a wig it would be the same in every episode. But as it is - in first two episodes he has way shorter hair than later (if I remember correctly they took a break after episode 2 (or maybe even in the middle of filming) due to Covid.).

Another dead giveaway is his hairline.

[–]BeginningShallot8961Black Panther -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Wow you need a source for something like that? Anyway there isn't any article yet but in all the quarantine at-home videos he's been in he's got his black dyed hair, which he constantly played with in ways that would snatch out any wig. Besides, its the reason why his hair is short in the series. Had it been a wig they would have given him longer hair for continuity's sake.

[–]Funmachine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow you need a source for something like that

If you're making an unsubstantiated claim. Then yes.

[–]fortherex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LMAO You got Downvoted For asking for a source, that's just petty.

[–]Ygomaster07Jimmy Woo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought that was his real hair. I had no idea it was a wig.

[–]borkborkbork99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now… bleach the eyebrows. 😂

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Props to the stylists!

[–]BananaStringTheory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Then he did a dramatic hair flip to test it out.

[–]MrBob1999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now show how he becomes an alligator

[–]HouseThatHeBuilt 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Okay I always assumed it was a wig. What shocked me, never having worn a wig before, was the amount of styling it took once it was on his head. I always assumed that once it was on and attached that was just that.

[–]Rimavelle 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It's styling for a movie. It has to stay properly, don't move, the wig lace has to be hidden properly so it doesn't show on close-ups. They pretty much have to glue it on. And then more styling so it looks exactly the same as on the previous day shooting to keep continuity.

[–]HouseThatHeBuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that info. I was unaware of what went into putting on a wig.

[–]Ygomaster07Jimmy Woo 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Why does it look like he is in pain? What about it would be painful?

[–]CaptainRedux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a wig person but you can see they are using something very pointy starting at the 8 second mark and shoving it between the wig and his scalp then he starts wincing.

[–]random7814 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For some reason, I thought he was just making expressions or scrunching up his face to test out the fit of the wig or something. Like you know how when you raise your eyebrows, your scalp also moves.

[–]chingchongchnk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God the song blasting in the wrong key is really bothering me

[–]everadvancingWong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]devilsephirothRed Skull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]woodwindsarebetterUltron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that for Ragnarok?

[–]_-__-__-__-__-_-_-__Rocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hai Mark

[–]MattS0623 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Watching the show I really forget that’s not his hair. Imagine Loki but with Tom Hiddleston’s natural hair. “Erm hello would you direct me towards the TVA please many thank yous”

[–]BeginningShallot8961Black Panther 8 points9 points  (1 child)

In the show it is his real hair just dyed black. This video is from Ragnarok era

[–]MattS0623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh shit that makes more sense. Thank you

[–]icy-winter-ghost -1 points0 points  (3 children)

I never understood why, whenever he's filming roles as Loki, he doesn't let his hair grow out and dye it black, to save him time and pain when putting on the wig.

I've only once seen him do this, which was summer 2020 (last year), if I remember correctly.

[–]fortherex 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Because Tom Hiddleston is a working actor. Loki isn't the only role he plays and I'm sure he pursues other roles. He didn't learn and perfect his craft in order to play one role for all his life.

[–]icy-winter-ghost 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I know that, I guess I wasn't clear with what I meant; what I meant was that whenever he's filming roles as Loki and has no other projects at the time, he could let his hair grow out and dye it.

Most actors only have one role at a time, which usually spans between a few months to about one year. Let's say Tom Hiddleston is only playing Loki in a span of 10 months, with no other projects during that time.

He would have 10 whole months of doing almost nothing but portray Loki, at least in his working hours. So, since he has no other projects for a long time, he might as well let his hair grow and have his hair dyed, as he's not playing other roles anyway (at least not roles that require him to have black hair at shoulder length)

I hope I made myself more clear this time. I'm sorry if I didn't; I'm terrible at explaining things :(

[–]fortherex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you're fine, I understand. 10 months doesn't seem to be that much time to grow his hair depending on his starting point. It seems sometimes in his everyday life he cuts his hair down to a few centimeters. Loki the character seems to have hair that comes a little bit pass shoulder length. During those ten months he's probably already filming before it gets that long.

[–]thelegend90210Ultron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green scales preferably

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd imagine that at this point, they've got the wig process down to less than an hour at this point.

[–]goboxey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought this was his real hair and it's only dyed black.

[–]Mahek200x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]I_see_a_lite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks like he is about to say "you damn mortal don't mess with my hair, you hurt me one more time I will stab you with a million daggers"

[–]maryheatsitSHIELD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dyeing natural hair black is not an easy business, it's very hard to get rid of. Tom has a beautiful red tone. Also it's just better for continuity to keep consistency with length. The wig in this tv show is a bit weird but at the same time looks much more natural. I still love the length in Ragnarok...

[–]BLTurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To people saying it looks painful because he’s pulling that face. I’m pretty sure that’s him just contorting his face, and thus his scalp, to make sure the wig is adhered properly.

You don’t want the hair to just kinda peel off when an actor does an extreme facial expression.

[–]Vast-Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When do they add the scales & those sharp alligator teeth?

[–]Yash424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was I the only one who didn’t realise he wasn’t wearing a wig?

[–]ano_hise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]zachsnapwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really hoping that was his real hair.

[–]MeatBlanket 0 points1 point  (0 children)
