Hi Reddit Community, Annie Druyan here. I was the Creative Director of NASA’s Voyager Interstellar Message, co-writer of Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, co-creator of the motion picture Contact. The deepest honor of my life was sharing it with Carl Sagan and building a family with him. Since my husband's death in 1996, I have written, produced and directed Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey for which I won the Emmy and Peabody awards. Tonight at 8/7 central, my third season, Cosmos: Possible Worlds will have its broadcast premiere on Fox. I am the author of its companion book. The great leaps in human experience always begin with a question. That’s one of the reasons I am excited to get yours. Let’s go.

50th re-dedication of the Eternal Light Peace Memorial speech by Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan

I don't know if it's appropriate to post in this sub. But the 'official' Carl Sagan sub is still dark in protest of Reddit's closing off of the API.

The official Carl Sagan YouTube channel uploaded this the other day. But digitization and official release of the recording itself comes from NARA, College Park Maryland Archives location. It is perhaps fitting that this was rediscovered, digitized and released to the public in an age of social unrest. In an age where, yet again, the world's biggest superpowers are ever still in consideration of thermonuclear war. I've gone and updated the Wikipedia entry for the Eternal Light Peace Memorial with proper citations where applicable. It is almost 27 years since since Sagan passed away. And we are still having the same conversations. The same arguments and debates.

TIL Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan were professional acquaintances during the Voyager project in 1977. When Sagan returned a phone call from Druyan it turned into a date and they were engaged by the end of the call. They married in 1981 and were together until Sagan's death in December 1996.
