If you could choose an animagus, what would it be?
I'll start:fly! Its small, quick, fits every where and as its name shows, it can fly, and since it lives everywhere, no one would get suspicious as how it gets there

I don't want any more kittens. Harry isn't a kitten and certainly doesn't act like one.
I don't even want snakes, though that fits his Parseltongue.
I want something that fits Harry and/or his experiences.
I want a lion that fits Harry's bravery.
I want a phoenix specifically to represent Harry's resurrection at the forest - or anything else that is connected to his personality or what he experienced.
Or, I want his form to actually affect him like it affected animagi in Canon.
If Sirius has a dog-like laugh and Pettigrew has mouse-like features, then Harry's animagus should also affect him in some way.
A Harry who growls at his enemies like his animagus form would or whose nails are almost claw-like in nature.
A Harry whose dragon animagus doesn't just make him overpowered, but makes him accidentally breathe fire when angered, or one whose hair puffs up like a bird's feathers when cornered.
A Harry whose blood works like an advanced healing potion because his animagus is a unicorn.
Harry being a Phoenix Animagus and despising himself for ever having gained the form because whenever he thinks he may finally get peace and move onto the afterlife to meet his family once more, he burns to ashes and finds himself born anew, a Cursed Immortal forever bound to the world of the living by his Eternal Flame, whose tears may save his comrades from the brink of death but cannot stop then from aging and dying anyway, his mournful song eventually resounding through an empty world with no-one else to hear him - not anymore.

What is the animal(magical or normal) you would most likely transform into if you were an animagus?

As the title says I'm curious as to understand the various points of view on this subject. I understand that you want to show off and that it is canonically the most complex stuff you can do to shout out that you mastered transfiguration. Why should the main character of a fic focus so much time on something that is basically a furry's dream?
I understand the basic espionage use of an animal form as shown in the books but unless you follow 24/7 your target. It requires more luck than anything to actually obtain useful information unless you know the exact time and place of your target's meeting.

What do you think Harry's animagus form would be if he ever becomes one? I like to think he would be a snowy white owl with spectacle markings because of his connection with hedwig

The night when Voldemort comes to Godrics Hollow to kill the Potters he encounters James in the living room, Voldemort very quickly disarms James and doesn’t exactly believe him to be a threat anymore but still doesn’t discount the idea that James might know some wandless spells or had set up some traps so he raises his wand with Avada Kedavra on his lips.
What he wasn’t expecting James to do was transform into a giant 400 pound Grizzly bear.
In another scenario if Voldemort had encountered a bear in a forest or even a highly transfigured magical battlefield he wouldn’t have have had any genuine trouble but since James was a giant 400 pound Grizzly bear 7 feet away from him and in the small living room of a cottage it’s understandable that he was caught off guard.
Voldemort is banished that night but not by Harry James Potter but rather by James Potter who comes to be knows as the vanquisher of The Dark Lord.

I've been listening to The Goblet of Fire for the 100th time and the reporter is making me wonder what would be the perfect animal to turn into. So far I'm going for a pigeon. Fast fliers, good senses, completely normal nearly everywhere on the planet, so would be perfect spies. Really easy to escape hogwarts for sneaky activities as well.

Harry: *shifts into a animal form during the final battle.
Voldemort: A platypus?
Harry: *platypus noise
Voldemort: *notices lightning bolt
Harry: *platypus noise
Voldemort: Harry the platypus?!
Harry: *platypus noise
Voldemort: *picks Harry the platypus up
Harry: *stings the dark lord and envenomates him.
Voldemort: *screams in pain because the platypus venom reacted poorly to his resurrected body. Dies of anaphylactic shock.

I'm about to read one about Draco as a kneazle and it reminded me how much I love Draco animagus fics. Anyone got some good recs?
Some other ones I've read: Wolf Pack
The one where Draco's a crow(or maybe a raven?) and goes to hide in the forbidden forest
The one where Draco's a cat and runs from the manor across England on a path set by his mum
The one where Draco's a cat because of that cursed Malfoy broach
The one with the scrunchies

I know that the Doylist explanation is probably just that witch = cat is a myth that Rowling wanted to play up for the first witch and first animagus revealed in the story, but we know that a person's animagus form is related to their personality.
For example, James Potter liked to show off, so he was a stag; Sirius was loyal and playful, so he was a dog; Pettigrew was traitorous, so he was a rat.
What aspects of McGonagall's personality do you think are similar to a cat?
Any really good Animagus fics ? Either Snape or Hermione or both being Animaguses
I love the story- “The Irony” but it was never finished.
Any recommended on any sites ?

I honestly dislike it when stories feature characters like Harry transforming into a magical animal through animagus magic.
It makes magical creatures in the world feel less significant to me. Additionally, it grants magical humans an extra aspect that sets them apart, detracting from the uniqueness of other magical beings.
But one of the main reasons I dislike magical animagus is that it's always a Phoenix, Dragon, or some other extremely powerful creature which, in reality, is quite impractical. What are you going to do with a dragon, become a bigger target for a killing curse? Moreover, most of the time, it can only be used outside and even then, only where muggles cannot witness it. Authors often have to come up with reasons why it isn't used due to its overpowered nature.
Now, onto the point. There was one time I appreciated the concept of a magical animagus. I recently read "Harry Potter and the Artisan's Path," and I loved how it utilized Harry's animagus form. In this story, Harry's animagus form is a Demiguise, a small white monkey-like creature. When transformed, Harry can become invisible, and he has premonitions when danger is imminent. In his animagus form, he can essentially glimpse a bit into the future when danger is approaching. When in human form, he has a foreboding sense that something bad is about to happen, akin to a sixth sense.
This is great; it gives Harry a bit of power without going overboard. Harry already possesses an invisibility cloak in the canon, so the ability to turn invisible in his animagus form isn't excessive. Plus, most of the time, he isn't in his animagus form, so his danger sense isn't too overpowered. It actually feels useful without being an all-powerful advantage.
I recall seeing another story where the protagonist could transform into a Niffler, which was cool without being utterly ridiculous.
What do you think about magical animagus forms? Do you use them? Do you agree with me, or do you think I am wrong?
I am curious to see what others think of magical animagi, thanks for your answers in advance.

We all know that you can’t exactly pick your own Animagus form and its purpose is usually for you to be able to blend in to the world. While manifesting your personality as a person.
So what do you think yours will be?
Honestly i think mine would be a Ragdoll cat 😅 due to the sleepy, calm and peaceful nature of the breed. Im a huge house cat for sure 🤣

I’ve always wondered whether Dumbledore was another unregistered animagus - if you think back to book 1 where Harry asks him how he disguises himself (or if he can be invisible, I can’t quite remember the details) he says there’s ways & means… of course, easiest scenario to envisage is he uses a dissolutionment charm or using homenum revelio
I’ve always liked to entertain the idea Dumbledore was a bumblebee animagus and would sometimes buzz around Hogwarts completely unseen in
Thoughts..?
