Why do you think that people on Twitter and Facebook are huge fans of After Life, believing it to be the gospel of peak television, whilst most of us on this shoddy subreddit dislike it?

I’ve rarely seen a negative comment towards it on Twitter or Facebook, but this subreddit, blimey it is littered with objections. Why is that?

Kath: If you don't believe in heaven and hell and all that, why don't you just go around raping and murdering as much as you want?

Tony: I do.

Kath: What?

Tony: I do go around raping and murdering as much as I want, which is not at all.

Literally every side character is just 'Oddball with a heart of gold'. That's it, that's the show. Its the TV show equivalent of a wall decal. How did this guy create The Office? It seems as if Stephen Merchant must have done more of the work - or Ricky Gervais has got so famous that nobody tells him 'no' and this is the result. Anyway, rant over!

I just started watching the show on Netflix and all his feelings as a widow are so painfully relatable. Two years on and I guess there's still plenty of tears left to cry

Charity Worker: Hi sir please could you give £1 for hurricane relief?

Ricky: No you fucking cunt, I’m not giving you shit. I’ll murder you if I see you again.

Ricky gets into work, his brother in law immediately takes him into his office

Brother in Law: I heard about what you said to that charity worker. You can’t talk to people like that, it’s just not right.

Ricky: It’s just that since my wife died I don’t care anymore.

Brother in Law: I know but it’s rude.

Diane Morgan: I’m going to spend the weekend alone, watching Mrs Browns boys.

Ricky: And I thought you couldn’t get any more r*tarded! You’re going to die alone.

Diane looks sad, Brother in Law peeks his head around the office and motions Ricky inside

Old Lady: How are you doing?

Ricky: I called my coworker retarded. It’s just that since my wife died I don’t care anymore.

Old Lady: I know it’s hard but that’s uncalled for.

Ricky: I guess you’re right. I should do something nice for her to make up for it.

at therapists office

Ricky: I’d kill myself if it wasn’t for my dog.

Therapist: I wish I had some viagra.

Ricky: I hate you, you perverted old twat.

Therapist. I don’t care. Sessions up, pay me.

Diana Morgan walks in and sees an apology note from Ricky. She holds it up to her heart. Sentimental music plays with a montage of various characters doing lonely things

Cut to Ricky in bed watching old videos of his wife

Wife: Ricky, when I’m dead promise you won’t be rude to people.

He chuckles wryly and pats his dogs head. Episode ends

Ricky Gervais is hilarious, but with After Life (season 2 was just released) he shows real range. This show (written by, directed by, and starring Gervais) has real heart and some great lessons about life and how to handle the setbacks many people face. With just 6 30 minute episodes a season it's a quick watch, but it will stick with you.

Not sure if anyone has watched this new addition to Netflix yet but it centres around a man who has sadly lost his wife to cancer. There are heaps of lovely/sad flash backs to their relationship and they were a middle aged child free couple. It was awesome to see the love they had for one another focused on them and not on kids and how they had been left motherless.

A really lovely show that I recommend!

Anyone watching this ? Great show in which he sort of plays a version of himself in a situation a lot of us get asked about.
