As a 2020 iPad Pro 12.9" user with a Magic Keyboard, I'm really disappointed and I really don't get why Apple can't support Stage Manager (at least without full external display, just the resizable and overlapping windows) on the A12Z iPad Pros or even the A12X iPad Pros considering that the M1 chip is based on the A12Z.
I guess it's time to upgrade to the M1 iPad Pro then... or ditch the iPad entirely and go to the M1 Macbook Air.
Yes I've already read it on the Apple website that Stage Manager is only available for M1-powered iPads, including the M1 iPad Air.
Edit: indicated that I use an iPad Pro in the beginning.

Hey guys! So basically I do some drawing, graphic design and illustration on my sisters 2017 Macbook Pro (my mid 2009 one died so she has lent me hers as she has a work laptop). I am in a real dilemma with which iPad to buy. Last years model refurbished directly from Apple refurb, or this years model.
I definitely want the 12.9" with a pencil, and I will eventually buy a magic keyboard and run the iPad as a laptop replacement (but I will probs have the Macbook on the side).
The main thing I am stuck in 2 minds about is that I can save £160 if I get the refurb one compared to the brand new one. Both the options would be 256GB. If I go for the 128GB M1 model I will only save around £70. Storage wise I am thinking to get 256GB to future proof it but I have 2TB iCloud data so maybe that can help.
So what do you guys say?
- 2020 iPP 256GB refurbished
- 2021 iPP 256GB brand new
- 2021 iPP 128GB brand new
Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated guys!!!

I’m a Postgraduate student who does a lot of note-taking, PDF reading and editing, and will mainly be using the device for media consumption. Photos and music will be stored on my 512GB 14Pro.
I’m torn between getting the A12Z (512GB) from Apple Refurbished website, or a 2nd hand M1 (128GB) from CEX in UK. I’ve purchased the M1 and have 14 days to decide if i want to keep it. I’ve done some testing on iMazing and below are some info on the 2nd hand M1 12.9” iPad Pro:
- Originally purchased in April 2022, still has Apple limited warranty till April 2023
- 22 charge cycles, battery health at 98%
- Has several micro scratches on the screen, and a tiny grain-sized mark on the screen.
- Overall body is in excellent condition with no markings, scrathces or dents
I’m really struggling to decide if i should go with a larger 512GB 2020 iPad Pro with new battery and housing from Apple at £799, or a 2nd hand 128GB 2021 iPad Pro at £790. I’m concerned in terms of longetivity (will the M1 really outlast the A12Z that much longer?) and the value for money (more storage for a last-gen chip or smaller storage for newer chip?).

As we don’t have any benchmarks for the A14 yet, I decided to do some rough calculations on how the A14 compares to the A12Z/X in CPU performance.
Geekbench 5 multi-core results:
Previous gen iPad Air ~2800
2020/2018 iPad Pro ~4700
-
iPad Pro is 68% more powerful
Apple claims the 2020 iPad Air is 40%(*) more powerful than the previous gen iPad Air.
-
This makes iPad Pro (A12Z/X) 20% more powerful than the 2020 iPad Air (A14).
Note that it is certain that the A14 has a better single core performance, but the two extra cores in the A12Z/X make up for it, giving it a higher multi-core performance.
(*)obviously Apple didn’t use Geekbench to measure this, but we work with what we’ve got.

Trying to decide from the following options since my iPad Pro 12.9 4th gen just stopped working. I mainly just use it to take class notes, play video games(genshin impact), and watch movies, feel like I don’t need something that powerful but I also want to be futureproof. Love to hear some advice on which one to get
• iPad Pro M2 11 newest release 256GB, about $899
• iPad Air M1 10.9 256GB, about $749
• iPad Pro A12z chip 11 2nd gen 1TB from game stop, $599
• get my old iPad Pro repaired/replaced without ac, $649? Idk how Apple handles it

The Apple A15 with 5 gpu cores yields 1600 gigaflops, 113 more than the Apple A12Z of the ipad pro 2020 and its 8 cores... (1486 gigaflops )the Apple M1 of the new ipad pro 2021 yields 2600 gigaflops, a beast... With these data we get an idea of how powerful the new sixth generation ipad mini is for gaming etc
