For those interested in Taiwan! Feel free to share content with the community.
After watching reality shows like Terrace House (Japan) and Singles Inferno (S.Korea), I’m wondering if there are any Taiwanese shows like this that people would recommend? Bonus if they are available on YouTube or streamable from the US!
The ones i’ve seen are: Change Days S2, Transit Love S2 and S3, 19/20, Heart Signal (Forgot which season), Singles Inferno S1 and S2, My Siblings Romance S1, Terrace House (All).
I started Love Catcher and Love Village but didn’t like it.
My all-time fave (so far) is Transit Love S2 but mostly because of Hyungyu! His storyline and development is almost like a k-drama on its own! 10/10
Currently, I like YoonWoo in My Siblings Romance but let’s see because it’s still ongoing.
What’s your faves and why? Try not to spoil anything, please. :)
Producers of TLC’s hit reality series 90 Day Fiance are looking to put a new spin on their “finding love off the beaten path” theme with new show Love After Lockup. The series will document couples in which one (or more?) partner is currently behind bars, but soon to be released.
A little off topic but for all my friends who love trash reality tv there is a new show called Milf Manor. The moms all are on a dating show and find out their sons are in the same dating pool for everyone. It’s horrible and wild but also entertaining in the worst way. If anyone in interested in a new show I would recommend this train wreck. It’s so bad it’s good. So far there are only 3 episodes. Obviously there is a lack of felons but I feel like some people here would be interested.
This group is for discussion and support for those who fall in between, for the "shades of gay" in what is often assumed to be one or the other: * bisexuals * pansexuals * omnisexuals * queers * non-straight individuals ... or anyone who doesn't quite fit the otherwise binary "straight" and "gay" pattern. If you can't work out if you're straight, gay, or anywhere in between... you should probably visit us.
I’ve been watching things like love is blind and the ultimatum on Netflix and I’m really craving something sort of similar but where everyone is bi/pan, does that exist? I loved the queer ultimatum but everything else is so straight

Since Taiwan's the first country in Asia to legalize same sex marriage, it's nice to see a same sex dating show being made here. The production company said it's similar to the Japanese reality show "Terrace House" and Korean gay dating show "His Man" so I'm interested to see if it will be as successful internationally as those shows.
The first episode premiers on Oct 14 at noon.

As someone who genuinely enjoyed the heart fluttering moments and chemistry from JaeJi, seeing Jaehyung cry really broke my heart. But just as the panels concluded, this is a dating show and we just have to follow and accept Jiwon’s and Yongwoo’s hearts and decisions.
This episode became my favourite and I felt so many things and basically had to pause throughout multiple times to really think and feel what the participants were going through.
I cried HARD at these moments.
-
Juyeon questioning her self-worth. She must have had it so tough and I just want to give her a big, big hug.
I also can’t help but wonder why did Yongwoo let her ask this question and let the self-doubt continue to fester.
2. Choa’s letter to herself. I can’t help but notice how many times Choa mentioned and thanked “the memory she has of Yongwoo”. Despite everything, she is still a warm person through and through, until the end.
3. Sequence of Jaehyung’s confession to Jiwon, rejection to Juyeon and finally letting go of his tears at the end.
I could see how overwhelmed with emotions he was at that point in time. He fell so fast for Jiwon but within one day, the situation changed and his emotions and thoughts must have been spiralling out of control. It was so cruel to see how he had just gotten hurt from the rejection and then have to be the one to hurt another person just hours later. Must have been a crazy emotional rollercoaster kind of experience for him - thus the outburst of tears at the end.
I was worried for his emotional being seeing him cry like that (and the fact that he was hurt deeply from his previous relationship too). However, as Juyeon mentioned during her confession, Jaehyung has a strong inner self that doesn’t get swayed by externalities.
I have hope and belief that Jaehyung will meet the right person for him one day and he’ll be able to have that pure, romantic love that he wants.
4. Cheolhyun’s interview about how he deeply desires having a big family but was suppressing such desires by telling himself that he’s someone who suits having a solitary lifestyle.
How he would miss this group of people, how he felt fear when he realized that he would return to an empty home again after this show, how there are gonna be aftereffects from this show, how this feels like a dream they don’t want to wake up from.
I’m glad the siblings joined the show so that they could meet and be surrounded by other warm-hearted people (mainly SS, JH, YJ). And I hope they continue to meet and stay close and be able to fill in that void of loneliness they have in their hearts.
This show has taught me so much values about family, friendships and love. I respect the participants for their decisions to come onto the show and reveal SO MUCH about their lives. At the same time, I hope that the audience also realize that this is just a peep into their lives and who they are as a person, so please refrain from hating.
In conclusion, I have so much love for this show and some of the participants on this show. I will hold this show close to my heart even after many years later. Thank you so much to the production team for this show! 💗

So, is a dating show on Amazon Prime that premiered a week ago (all 10 episodes are out).
The series follows six single people searching for their soulmate. It gives them the opportunity to reconnect with their missed connections, as each participant gets to interact with people from their pasts through a device called "The Portal".
Elan Gale, yes THE Elan Gale, past Bachelor producer, is an Executive Producer of this show.
Singer Betty Who (remember Becca's hometown date with Blake??) is the host of the show.
So, all ten episodes are out, and I'm wondering, has anyone watched yet? What are your thoughts?

Do we think he is telling the truth or just trying to get people talking?
This episode was recorded on Avery’s birthday, which Avery celebrated by having 15 of her closest girlfriends over for dinner (“She’s taking after me!” Ramona informs us)
Ramona says Avery can’t have 50 of her closest friends over because there isn’t enough space in the apartment.
Ramona says this episode will be about the men who dated multiple RHONY women, what dating is like now for her and Avery, and what dating was like when Ramona was in her 20s.
Ramona starts talking about the Toms of Bravo, using the moment to mention that she and Sonja also dated Lu’s Tom.
“He was heavy flirting with MARRIED LADIES and he was trying so hard, because we were much younger and really beautiful, and it was just-it was just tacky and not nice. And when I went on the second date with him, he said ‘You know you met me before, you met me years ago.’ So he was talking like literally 14 years ago and I’m like ‘O-M. Ohmygosh you’re THAT guy!’ But meanwhile, decided he wasn’t for me because, you know, never been married, no children, drank a little too much for me.” - Ramona recounting Lu’s Tom’s first season appearance and her later dates with him.
Ramona says that Lu got dumped by some guy named Michael and the same day, she saw Tom at a hotel on a date with a woman, and she went up to him, grabbed his hand, and said “It’s your turn with me now!” (Ramona says this part in a deep voice impression of Lu that’s VERY funny) and took him off.
Ramona brings up Misty but for some reason just refers to her as “My good girlfriend whose name begins with an M”
The topic changes to Harry Dubin. Ramona’s timeline of Harry Dubin is: Dated Sonja first, married Aviva, then saw Lu on the side while her marriage with the Count was ending. Avery brings up Ramona and Harry’s infamous make out picture.
“I had gone to Sonja’s show, had a few drinks, I was there with Tinsley, then we went to uh the uh place called whatever…. Omar’s place. I had a few drinks there, I hadn’t eaten, remember my rule always eat before you drink. I didn’t eat food. No food! Then I went to another place by the Plaza, and I went to my girlfriend and I started having vodka, now it’s like 12:30 at night, and I’m with Harry and he just sticks his tongue down my throat and I took it in. It was terrible! Like an anteater or something. He was like an anteater! We were like reptiles. It was disgusting.”
Ramona brings up Kelly Bensimon also dating Harry. Ramona denies ever fucking Harry Dubin, though. Just a kiss, and a kiss doesn’t count.
Avery says dating is very hard for her because you can google her and find negative stories about her and Ramona. She also says that she tends to just tell people that her mom is an entrepreneur instead of a reality star. Ramona seems pleased with this.
We get a section of Avery talking about how people instinctively think she’s a bitch because of Ramona and reality tv in general. It’s not super interesting because I’m here for Ramona not Avery’s dating struggles.
Ramona complains that people are too on their phones for her to meet people to date out in the world. She specifically says she used to pick up people at the gym but now everyone has their “EarPods” in and now she can’t meet people in a social space.
“Swiping is so confusing!”
When talking about meeting guys when she was in her twenties, Ramona says “There was no VM then. No voice mail.”
Avery says that her Fridays and Saturdays are for the girls. Ramona reacts with disgust because those are date nights.
“I’m about to be 28 and you’re nowhere close to that.” - Avery clearing Ramona.
Avery says Ramona only used voice to text and is an incoherent texter because of it, so if she texts you you have to solve a puzzle of what she’s trying to say. Need examples, Avery!!!
Avery expresses a disinterest in hook up culture and informs us that Ramona waited three months before she and Mario banged, which I think is a weird thing to know about your parents but alright, Avery.
Avery: “I get it, women want sex, too-“
Ramona: “USE A VIBRATOR! Use your hand! Where’s the romance! The romance!”
Ramona re: the death of courtship and the rise of hook up culture: “The women have allowed this to happen because they want to be liberated.” (My biggest laugh of the episode)
Avery: “What’s the other saying? It’s like the woman controls…it’s like the neck and the head… what is it?”
Ramona: “Oh that was from the movie that the um woman controls the man through the nec-makes the man move makes the m-I forgot but it was very funny.”
Ramona mentions Bethenny met her current fiancé on Hinge, which I do not think Bethenny has said before?
Ramona says you never know when you’re gonna meet someone and “you could meet them hitting golf balls”
Ramona is all inclusive when talking about people meeting the special person in their life by saying “that special man or woman or whatever they may be.”
“I would like to be in a relationship before I made love to someone.”
“It’s a new world out there, I don’t really understand it, Avery Anne Singer.”
Avery and Ramona are both disgusted by the concept of ghosting.
Avery asks Ramona if she’s ever ghosted someone. Ramona says no, Avery asks if she’s certain, Ramona goes “oh are you talking about Frank?” But never elaborates on who Frank is. Hope it’s not Frank Catania.
Avery and Ramona misquote Lu and say “Don’t be so uncool, be cool!” Avery also says that you know ghosting is rude because Ramona thinks it’s rude.
They pivot to answering questions.
The first question is about finances and how Ramona became so financially free which leads to a lot of finance talk that wasn’t particularly interesting or funny.
The second question is about Ramona and Avery’s exercise routines. Avery refers to Ramona as “Ms. Ageless by Ramona” during this section.
“You eat like an animal! Did you see how much you ate last night? You wanted the second pasta. I don’t know where you put it!”
This wasn’t the most interesting episode because there was too much Avery complaining about dating which is not what I’m here for.

Every 2 weeks they reconsider an event, person or phenomenon that's been miscast in the public imagination. Come here to discuss the show and any topics from the podcast.
The Nick and Vanessa Lachey universe (love is blind, the ultimatum, etc) is like the emotional stanford prison experiment.
It’s wildly interesting from a psychology perspective, and it brings in vulnerable people with these extreme heteronormative ideologies, and the whole “experiment” framing is bonkers. And there appears to be no ethics standard for these “experiments” as long as they’re used for entertainment instead of research.
And what gets me is that there seems to be no real cultural conversation about the wild emotional abuse, manipulation, invasion of privacy, and as of recently, the numerous lawsuits alleging serious abuse or even false imprisonment! We just talk about these people like they’re the main character of the day and then move on. I’m guilty of it too!
Especially in light of the Love Island suicides and Sarah’s radical empathy approach, I think this could be an incredible episode topic.
Plus, Sarah already talked about Nick Lachey during the Jessica Simpson book club, so it would kind of be a fascinating sequel/cameo.

I recently started watching the new Korean dating show where the concept is the participants use an avatar (not a computer one, but a human) to talk to each other for 3 days before meeting in real life. The show is currently airing, episode 4 just dropped
The concept was so weird and funny, but nobody was talking about the show... so I decided to start subbing it! Episode 1 is now complete.
It's my first time subbing & Korean is nowhere near my first language, so please be kind!
Please let me know if my snarky translator's comments are annoying...and I'll be sure to add more in the next episode ^____^
EP 01 (4 parts, all subbed)
Part 1:
Part 2:
Part 3:
Part 4:
Hope you all enjoy! ~subpar_subs
I'll link all the four episode parts on my & I'll try to keep that up to date.

After over two decades of cultivating youthful romance in The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise, The Golden Bachelor introduces a novel romantic narrative - one designed for the golden years. This fresh unscripted series offers one hopeful romantic a second shot at love, as they search for a companion to savor life's twilight years with. The women entering the mansion bring a wealth of experience, having navigated through love, loss, and laughter.
So I love dating shows, Indian Matchmaker, Jewish Matchmaker, Old School Bravo Million Matchmaker, Love is Blind, etc.
I'm currently not watching but was a huge fan of 90 Day Fiance.
I haven't watched The Bachelor (and spin offs). I seen info for this one and got a hulu subscription just for it.
A few things that are bothering me.
-
I feel there is not enough time. I don't feel I really know any of the characters. Everything is sooo rushed.
I would have liked to see maybe Gerry calling his family or friends, discussing the dates. I don't see any "confessionals" with Gerry really summarizing what he feels is going on or how he's feeling.
2. We're shown 90 seconds of a date if that.
I don't really take group dates as a real thing. I think they're just activities really to move along the show. Everything was cut wayyyy to short.
I wasn't too entertained by the romance cover or talent show.
The actual dates we see 1 minute of it.
They keep talking about how in love they are with Gerry, how much he loves them, how connected they all are....
The show is not providing enough time for the viewer to really see this. How am I supposed to KNOW unless you show me. It's all WORDS at this point.
Shows like the Ultimatimum AND Love is Blind showcase multiple couples and story lines and withe viewer gets a GREAT IDEA of who these people are.
Why are we shown barely anytime with these people?
I just feel the show is forcing me to think I know these people more than I actually do.
It's been years since I actually tuned I to a weekly show. I feel these segments should be 90 minutes at least. They should have extended version on Hulu of the episodes.
Even the first date at the hamburger/drive in where they had the musical, we dont get to see them really talk and talk about serious things or or talk about life.
We literally see them pull in, order a shake, dance number, date over.
It's these weird little BS moments (crying about a wedding dress, cat drama between women, etc).
Maybe as a fan base you guys are accustomed to this, as a new viewer I'm not shown enough about these people to really get into what's going on.
Add: I think the producers are too focused on keeping the "pick" under Wraps. I'd have preferred if we could have really seen how thing develop good or bad between the cast. Love is Blind is best example of this.
UnREAL was a drama that showed what went into running a fictional Bachelor-style reality show. I only found this show recently and it was one of the most difficult shows to watch because of how awful everything going on in the industry is and the lengths the producers go to just to get "entertaining" footage without any concern for the well-being of the participants. I don't watch dating shows but from what I've read the situations the show covered weren't far off. It came out in 2015 and went on for 4 seasons but got cancelled since it wasn't getting good numbers but it was an absolutely brilliant show with great performances and a compelling story and it kept getting better as it showed how far the producers would go.
