Can there be "white privilege" in a society with barely any PoC?

No, because white privilege is basically majority privilege. It's the same "privilege" Chinese people experience in China, Arab Muslim in the middle East, or Japanese people in Japan.

White privilege is the only racial privilege we (can) talk about, but it is certainly not the only one.

Usually at that point the goalposts move onto ‘faith’ or ‘devotion’. To a religion first, to the party later. Wasn’t too long after we got rid of the jews that we started executing ‘dissidents’. Usually the moderately rich ones.

It’s all about finding someone to rob.

For God’s sake, no. I got into this argument with someone claiming Conor McGregor, in Ireland, benefited from white privilege. Privilege means you’re advantaged over others, but when you look exactly like all the others…

The people of the Netherlands benefited a great deal from the resources taken from the colonies (Dutch Indies/Indonesia, Suriname, and the Dutch Antilles), so there's privilege. There's more to privilege than being awful to PoC.

If Anne frank really had “white privilege” I don’t think she would’ve been thrown into a concentration camp and tortured to death just for being Jewish

According to the OOP, she’s still receiving residuals from her book 🙄

OP is probably a doofus but as a child i honestly thought Anne Frank was white. Which made the Holocaust immensely confusing

I was right there for the first sentence, but that second one went in a very different direction, lol.

What a roller coaster, I'm spent.

I mean, to be fair to the OOP Tumblr poster:

  1. They're probably in the U.S. and probably just learned the concept of "White privilege" by going to college and taking a survey level sociology class.

  2. They probably wrote that post while getting high on some really premium weed, which they paid 30% too much for because it was their first time buying premium weed.

  3. They probably haven't yet learned how Jewish people were literally treated in every European country for centuries, despite being as White as the Christians.

this person probably thinks 1800's Irish people had white privilege, when they weren't even considered white

I'm actually having trouble finding when exactly Irish people became white but can't find any year or range of years

It was their begrudging 'acceptance' by protestant America....and then into the civil rights fights of the 50s and 60s they were well considered 'white enough' in comparison.

Lol depends who you ask.

In America, probably around 1890 on. (Not a good story and considered shameful)

In the UK? About 20 years ago.

The 1960s. When racists really had to double down on The "us vs them" mentality. But actual social prejudice and discrimination continued well into the 1990s.
