He did all this while wanting to scratch his ear, really amazing.

I love how he reacts like a WWE wrestler.

Now listen to it with your eyes closed

Your comment made me both close my eyes and snortle (snort/chuckle) simultaneously. Bravo.

This looks like one of those joke matches they do for laughs.

[–]TheLeopardColony 222 points223 points  (0 children)

Wow I think there’s something wrong with his hearing.

[–]Uzzer_lozer19 220 points221 points  (0 children)

It's impressive but that's the level he's playing at

Why do so many tennis players have fits and break their equipment?

[–]CameDownForWhat 98 points99 points  (7 children)

With this particular instance is because he had soooo many chances to win the point but lost it on his own mistake. When I play, doooo not care if I get beat by a better player...but when I lose because I made so many mistakes...i'm furious.

[–]RyanG7 41 points42 points  (3 children)

To add. Singles Tennis is an individual sport. All the spotlight is on you. You have no teammates. The only person to blame is yourself. So when players get frustrated, they'd rather take it out on equipment. Same with golf. How many people have gotten pissed and broke or thrown their putter or iron because of a bad shot? It just comes with the territory of individual sports

[–]siphayne 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That reminds me, I need a better gaming chair.

[–]Im_Not_Impressed_ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Golfers rarely break equipment. Mostly because they don’t have a bag of replacements. You break your putter. Your putting with your 3 wood the rest of the round.

Sorry I should have specified professionals

[–]banjosuicide 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Right, but having so little self-control that you break your possessions isn't a good look. That, to me, looks FAR worse than messing up a shot.

[–]zelena_salata 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Do you think he cares how he looks? He is playing a competative sport, not in a hollywood drama

[–]LesGitKrumpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently a LLLLOT of people think that they should care. I hear/read similar comments pretty often.

[–]saracenrefira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I can understand the frustration. Maybe I won't throw my racket but I can understand that feeling.

[–]Timpdj 39 points40 points  (6 children)

muryGOAT

[–]Pretend-Character-47 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He certainly worked hard for that point.

[–]DoublePrize9 27 points28 points  (14 children)

Not a tennis expert, but shouldn’t the guy in the black be putting those away?

[–]lunareclipsexx 124 points125 points  (12 children)

He is trying too lol, several very nice smashes that almost no tennis player could return. Except Andy predicted exactly where the shots were placed and managed to recover momentum after to finish the point.

[–]zaji970 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah 90% of the time they guys runs one way, and the other guy smashes it the other way. Doing it yourself is very satisfying.

[–]rgtong 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Not even that he predicted them, jist went to cover his vulnerability. On the first smash andy runs to the left and his opponent counterplays by smashing to the center, but murray successfully reacts and catches the return.

[–]TheHYPO 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Right, but he should have smashed it all the way to the right and closed out the point. Center was halfway to a good idea.

[–]rgtong 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Perhaps. As ive mentioned elsewhere its advisable not to underestimate the depth of complexity at pro sports. Could be that he positioned his body for a smash to the left to fool murray and made a last second redirect with his wrist, in which case smashing completely right would be incredibly hard and likely slower.

Who knows. Maybe just a mistake and thats why he threw his racket.

[–]TheHYPO -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Murray was (for an appreciable amount of time) running full speed to the left. He didn't have to really fool Murray - Murray would not have had time to completely change direction and make it all the way back to the right. He barely stopped at made it in the middle. I also don't believe he had to really change direction. I am pretty sure he could have shot to the right from the same position he was in.

[–]nien9gag 2 points3 points  (6 children)

not sure how tennis works. but can't he use a zero power shot to just cross the net, do the shots have to cross one of those lines? on badminton you can push player back with powerful shot suddenly switch to shot that barely crosses the net diagonally.

[–]lunareclipsexx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He could and you can see he does a few weaker shots on purpose to try and get his opponent to over run and miss it.

However it’s very tricky to do when receiving the ball from such a height and -.

Generally it is a lot safer to smash when you can as it keeps your opponent on the defense, if you do a weak shot and it gets returned then it’s back to neutral and that’s what black was trying to avoid even though it happened in the end.

[–]yoshi3243 0 points1 point  (1 child)

He can hit it anywhere on his opponents side (not the double’s alley though because that’s for 2v2.)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P1qFdFisBk0&pp=ygUeYmFkbWludG9uIGNyb3NzIGNvdXJ0IG5ldCBzaG90

something like this when he got the flighted return near the net.

[–]rgtong 0 points1 point  (2 children)

can't he use a zero power shot to just cross the net

It doesnt really come across over video, but the shots being fired at him are seriously fast. The more velocity the ball has when you're returning it, the more difficult/impossible it becomes to convert into a zero power shot (drop shot).

[–]nien9gag 0 points1 point  (1 child)

oh. i thought the flighted ones were slow. also now that i look at it he's not as near the net a i thought bcs of the camera angle.

[–]rgtong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah lobs are also awkward to dropshot. Plus the reason murray shoots lobs is to buy himself more time to prepare for the next shot, so if it gets returned with a dropshot he'd have enough time to respond. A drop shot by necessity is slow so if youre hitting one from far away it gives a lot of time for your opponent to reach it.

[–]yoshi3243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, he’s hitting them hard & well to put it away but Murray just gets to them somehow

[–]DrunkTides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s some bloody good tennis right there !!

[–]ImmaMichaelBoltonFan 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Is there a significant difference in skill level between these two? Murray anticipates with ease where black shirt is going to put the ball. Seems like a pro would easily have just tapped it over the other way or something.

[–]rgtong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any 'easy' point would be anticipated and prepared for when playing against another pro.

[–]Max_Speed_Remioli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s looking up at the ball and can’t see which way his opponent is running. Basically Murray guessed right multiple times.

[–]HaydenB -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think I'd enjoy tennis more if their shoes didn't squeak...

[–]ezzurita21 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was Daniel Tosh for second

[–]Partayof4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aussie Aussie awwwww

[–]footfoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does he know where the smash is going?

[–]SignificantCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def not one of the greatest points imo. He just couldnt put away extremely easy overheads

[–]Cautious-Ad7323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job by Murray, but why not just act like you’re gonna smash it then tap it over the net and watch it softly bounce 2 times? Murray is damn near on the wall. Why hit it to him?
