Andre Leon Talley on NPR
NPR did a story this morning about ALT, specifically about his tenure on ANTM and how he praised Alasia for that naked shoot while Tyra and Nigel were “empty and mean”. I just wanted to cry remembering how supportive and introspective he was to her and so many of those girls. I really miss him.
Yes! Idgaf, that photo is art, and ALT recognized it as such. I’ve never understood the hate from the rest of the panel.
IIRC Nigel and the hair stylist were the ones being bullies.
when he said he respected the boldness and the inventiveness she must have had to take this picture, little 12 year old me got goosebumps
Oh was this from “It’s Been a Minute”? I think they released this as a podcast a few weeks ago—such a great conversation! I loved that they weren’t afraid to talk about his time on ANTM, instead of just dismissing it as a small thing he did later in his life, because that’s how so many people were first introduced to him. I didn’t know much about his background so I learned a lot too!
I listen to about 2 hours of NPR per day while getting ready/going to work. I'm on a week vacation and I missed this, so thank you thank you thank you for this post!! Gotta look this up 💅 One day I hope I'm lucky enough to catch Angelea reporting live
In truth, Andre gave the girls a real dose of reality in fashion. If one person says no, there's always someone to say yes and give you criticism with dignity. And that's not to completely drag Tyra, at the end of the day she was making a tv show with fashion lessons for people whose experience on the topic of fashion is limited.
National Public Radio. It's my preferred news source. I think the hot takes provided on most NPR shows and news coverage is nuanced and thoughtful. Also, no one yells on NPR (or at least it's very rare if they do).

I don't think it was good either, I mean, Alasia's skin was the most beautiful thing in the photo, but the photo as a whole wasn't anything great.. that being said, they way Andre swooped when they were trying to embarrass and brake Alasia adds to the photo.. so yea, I do think it's salon worthy, but only after that whole scene ;)
