Andrew Bird - Fargo

Just a short funny story. I binge watched Fargo Season 3 (correction: it’s actually Season 4) over the span of 3 days. I just watched the final episode and just happened to catch “Andrew Bird” in the credits and I almost fell out of my chair. I only listen to artists passionately. I usually know nothing about them. Once I saw his name however I felt like an idiot I had not recognized him.

Now to the questions:

Does he do a lot of acting? I could google but I like good excuses for human interaction.

Has anyone heard any background on why he was chosen for the role?

Finally, that HAD to be him whistling throughout the season right? You don’t dare have Andrew Bird on your show and have someone else whistle!

Edit: A kind commenter pointed this video out and it just answers my questions so perfectly I had to put it up here to make sure you all see it.

Hi, here are some approximate answers!

  1. He doesn’t act much at all, I think this is his first foray into that realm.

  2. Noah Hawley (creator of the TV show) saw Bird at a show in Austin and just… asked him to do it.

  3. I believe so, yes. There’s a behind-the-scenes for season 4 where some of the cast and crew mention his whistling.

Wow! A one stop shop for answers. Thanks!

Between how good Fargo is and the Hawley’s recognition of Bird’s talent, I officially need to look for other projects Hawley has touched.

Thanks!

I think this is his first foray into that realm.

Here’s Andrew Bird and his band mate Jeremy Yivisaker doing an over the top interview. I found his acting on this precious.

Jeremy really needs to bring Evelyn Llewellyn out of retirement.

I asked him about the possibility about showing up at a Gezelligheid show recently, he responded with nothing but nice things to say about Alan Hampton's playing.

I’m pretty sure it’s season 4 that he was in.

Season - 1 - billy Bob Season 2 - Dunst/plemons Season 3 - Mcgegor Season 4 - rock/bird

Huge fan of the series, but season 4 was a big let down I thought. All other three seasons are absolutely golden though. Hope they recover in this upcoming season!

As a huge fan of both Andrew Bird and Fargo, I really wanted to like season 4 as much as the other 3, but I just couldn’t.

I think if Glynn Turman (Doctor Senator) played Chris Rock’s role it could’ve been a lot better. Rock’s a comedy legend but he just wasn’t a great dramatic actor.

Ooo, you are correct. I screwed that up. It is season 4. I enjoyed 4 but I can see where you are coming from.

Season 5 has started it appears. Looks like 3 episodes so far.

Does “Dr. Stringz” on Jack’s Big Music Show ( forever ago) count?

This is a pretty cool and will give you more info in Andrew’s words (and creator and co-actors)

Oh, this is just so perfect I’m adding it to the post as an edit. Thank you so much.

Thanks for giving me something to add to my "to watch" list!

The entire series is pretty great IMO. One of my favorites. It’s actually a ton like Andrew Bird. Not flashy but chock full of substance and nuance.

You COULD jump right in at Season 3 and there would only be a few small items that might confuse you but largely each season is a brand new story with a brand new cast.
