This was actually added kinda recently (recently by OW standards is closer to a year though). I love this as Ana. Double-click Q to panic activate it, or click once to "bank" the nano for a couple of seconds. Once it's banked, you can even apply it through walls. Perfect for a dashing Genji.

[–]Masterzjg 90 points91 points  (9 children)

Applying it through walls? Can't believe they let a setting enable this.

[–]mindfulotaku 53 points54 points  (5 children)

Well I refuse to think of course she’s shooting thru the wall. It’s an injection. You could stab the ally. Then have it injected remotely after a delay. At least that’s how I’ll head cannon it

[–]KEMISTS 7 points8 points  (4 children)

She shoots it out of her wrist with the velocity of widows sniper, how tf does that not kill the teammate?

[–]Possessed_potatoRoadhog 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Because it’s a syringe not a bullet. The real question is how the damn thing doesn’t break from getting fired or hitting your teammate. The dam thing would break before it gets any valuable injection, you’d just run around with a needle poking out at best

[–]mindfulotaku 7 points8 points  (1 child)

There’s a talking gorilla with a Tesla cannon. Haahah

[–]AroundTheBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In other words, it’s just a game 😂 real science doesn’t apply

[–]mommyenjoyer420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they're probably designed to shatter on impact

[–]NikkoJTRocket jump? That sounds dangerous. 2 points3 points  (2 children)

You can't target through walls, but if you target someone it will "stick" for a second after they go behind a wall, and you can commit the boost while they're still targeted.

[–]Masterzjg 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That's applying it through a wall. You just used commit instead of apply.

[–]NikkoJTRocket jump? That sounds dangerous. 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm trying to specify that it isn't pure wallhacks, by separating the two stages of application. If someone is currently behind the wall, you can't start the application (by targeting them). You can only commit - complete - an application that was started before they went behind the wall.

[–]DowakaDay 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I was thinking exactly this. have you tested it fully? does it still be applicable when genji dashed out of normal nano range?

[–]BagelBoi40000 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I think its similar to mercy's beam where it stays on even if through a wall/out of range for a second or two

[–]DowakaDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ah I get what you mean. so it's like there's a 1-2 second window where you can 'confirm' the nano before the prompt will go away. I need to test this later.

[–]CodemanRebornAce of Hearts Ana 653 points654 points  (17 children)

I remember when I first discovered that setting and yet somehow i still find a way to accidentally boost a lucio.

[–]_MarcelinesFriesMercy Merc 201 points202 points  (4 children)

The panic double tap I say

[–]CodemanRebornAce of Hearts Ana 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Omg I love that lmao

[–]feureauTracer 9 points10 points  (1 child)

They need to come up with an option for a confirmation on that confirmation.

[–]johannvandelay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The panic triple tap

[–]PocketSableD. Va 94 points95 points  (5 children)

BOOSTIOOOOOOO!

Quite honestly i've started doing it on purpose for the memes. Good thing I dont play Ana often

[–]CodemanRebornAce of Hearts Ana 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Oh i felt that tho sometimes if a team mate is being annoying and constantly asking for me to boost them even tho they dont do anything with it ill just boost the lucio and listen to them scream lol

[–]jryser 20 points21 points  (1 child)

We won once that way. Was about to die, nano saved my life and then I booped the last enemy off the payload to their death

[–]CodemanRebornAce of Hearts Ana 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, I normally boost everyone using it as a quick heal most the time nowadays but back then id be a huge dick with my nanos lol

[–]KryptoKevArt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its been done in pro level games actually. In a championship match last year on Nepal (Shrine), an Ana boosted her Lucio who was still on point during overtime which allowed him to juke n jive around point, evade dying, and the rest of the team was able to come back and take point iirc

[–]Edna_with_a_katanaZenyatta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remembered being the Boostio. I got so many kills

[–]tecky2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone that mains wrecking ball, I hate it when I accidentally get boosted by Ana. Now I gotta spend half the time speeding up to do a slam and hardly any time left after that.

[–]gh0st241 8 points9 points  (0 children)

BOOSTIOOOOOOOO

[–]MarinenukemLúcio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BOOSTIOOOOOOO

[–]GeneoxysMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saaaaasaaaaaaaame. Old habits die hard I guess

[–]Ruchri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to say… aww no more boostio

[–]MrDang3rPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BoostioOOOOO

[–]MidlifeCrisisBear 51 points52 points  (4 children)

I have been learning Ana as of late, and have loved this setting so far. Accidental nanos have been what deter me from playing her, so I like being able to learn her kit without the anxiety of "will I accidentally nano my mercy?". I will probably turn it off eventually, but as I am learning her I plan on keeping it on

[–]windywiIIow 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Nano’d battle mercy is the thing of nightmares.

Mobility, self healing and no reload on weapon. You can do some serious damage!

[–]MidlifeCrisisBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true! I do nano mercy in quickplay for fun but maybe it would be a good tactic as long as my mercy is down :)

[–]imnotlyndseyPixel Mercy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t you nano mercy? You just don’t want to nano too soon?

[–]fjorgemotaSigma[S] 50 points51 points  (1 child)

Discovered this thanks to a comment by /u/SinisterPixel on another thread on this sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/throkc/so_this_is_what_negative_iq_gameplay_looks_like/i19y588/

I seriously had no idea this was a thing! What other Hero settings do you find on Overwatch?

[–]ZeBloodyStretchr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mercy has some good ones like keeping the beam on even if you’re not holding/looking, flying to who you look at instead of who you’re beamed to and such.

[–]MarinenukemLúcio 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So does this mean no more boostio :(

[–]SeaTurtlePrince 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nano confirm is a life saver

[–]Pvt_Lee_FappingCute Pharah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And there's schmucks like me who just double-tap the ult button to activate it quickly, and I still end up giving nano to the Mercy that walked in front of my critical main tank.

[–]v3x93n 66 points67 points  (13 children)

I personally don't see a need for on Ana it as it severely harms reactive use of your ult, and you can just lower Nano Boost Sens to 30-50 and avoid any and all accidental nano's.

Only played around 10-20 on Echo so people who play her more may disagree, but I found 33 Duplicate sens removed the possibility of accidentally missing ult

[–]kooblikonI'm number 1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As someone who now has echo as his third most played character I love the toggle for the ult. Maybe it's "cheating" but I sometimes use it to track a character on screen. Possibly someone I want to copy, but I select them (lets say sigma) and if the copy disappears I know he died without even glancing at the killfeed. Even if he's just in my peripheral.
This also lets me hold on to the character I want to copy and get up close.
Again lets say a sigma, I lock onto him, he places up his shield, I fly into it and shoot him a few times with my stickies or get my laser in, then press fire (default) to become sigma without really needing to "find" him. Maybe a weird use of her tech but I love it.

[–]AbsorbedBritchesIcon Ana 71 points72 points  (10 children)

It's pretty nice, as someone with several hundred hours on Ana.

1) It prevents you from ulting the Lucio that speeds in front of you right as you try to ult someone

2) It barely limits reaction time since you can double tap a pretty easily accessible target

3) You get a few seconds where it holds the question on your screen, actually allowing you to ult someone if they go out of your LOS. For example, Genji gets ready to go in, you target him up, he dashes in and THEN you ult him

[–]imnotlyndseyPixel Mercy 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Fine, I’ll start playing ana.

[–]moremysteriousChibi Tracer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently switched to PC from console, and I never really played Ana on console because I just couldn't aim with her. I started playing her on PC and oh my god, she is so much fun. I became an Ana main overnight I love her.

[–]Alexmz_4Ana 15 points16 points  (7 children)

I also have hundreds of hours logged and I actually think that risking the reaction time to confirm her nano is not worth it.

[–]rebm1t 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Doubletapping really doesnt take much longer and as stated above you having the confirmation on makes it far easier to time the boost and get more out of it.

[–]FeezusChristTrick-or-Treat Widowmaker 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I turned it off after trying it out for some games because it often wasn’t the case that I would be able to prepare with the initial tap with my teammate in my LOS. For example, in high elo with nano blades I wait for their call to use it generally. The call can come at any time at any position on screen and there is barely time to react especially if they dash away. Having to double tap caused me to miss out on some nanos which is shitty for everyone involved.

[–]rebm1t 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Well the point is that if you can hit the first click it doesnt matter you have a full 1-2 seconds where you can use the 2nd click and it will hit them even if they dashed out of LOS so in your example the double click is not what caused the miss

[–]FeezusChristTrick-or-Treat Widowmaker -1 points0 points  (1 child)

My main issue is that the chance of misplacing a nano is probably 1 of every 20 games, where outright missing a spontaneous nano from having such a short window of opportunity to hit them was something like 1 of every 3-5 games. Generally as Ana you are positioning yourself where you aren’t on top of your team but rather taking cover behind, so the value of having a slight delay in nanos wasn’t worth it for me when the likelihood of a target passing in front of your intended nano target is rare.

[–]rebm1t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well idk what teams you play with but i cant even go a full game without someone stepping in the way of my nano. Also idk what your experience with the setting was but again the window is at least 1 full second if not 2 and is not affected by LOS so unless people are dying in between the first and second button press the setting is not causing you to miss anything. If they are dieing during that time either you take a long time to double tap or the nano wouldnt have mattered

[–]xShadey 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I gotta agree. Especially when nano can essentially be like a Rez for someone who’s about to die. Even that tiny bit of delay can make a difference

[–]Alexmz_4Ana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont know why youre getting downvoted but you are 100% correct. It is important to recognize that keeping an important piece alive can decide the outcome of the fight

[–]Swordlord22Grandmasterin the future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does that do by the way? I played this game since basically launch and I still don’t know what all the settings do

[–]AForce5223His hair was aMEIzing! 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mean I can final stop myself from accidentally echoing the tiny little support that I don't realize is slipping in front of the Reinhardt I'm trying to click?

Hell yeah

[–]CplGoonPixel Ana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Y'all need to open settings for once.

[–]Ever_Learner_15 7 points8 points  (4 children)

It actually is a buff because it even follows the nano target away from line of sight. As for echo I don’t recommend it as much since u want a fast reaction when you push a tank or an important clone target. But for Ana it’s always very useful in my opinion.

[–]HiJasper 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I would say the opposite. Nano is a much more reactionary ult than duplicate imo. Assuming you identify who you want to copy before you use it, and aren't playing floor echo, you shouldn't need to use it as a reaction. Obviously there are exceptions, but you have so much mobility that you should be able to keep track of your target without putting yourself in immediate danger.

The same rule applies to nano boost, but unlike duplicate, it can be used to save someone, usually a tank, from dying. Nano also charges incredibly fast assuming you're hitting shots and getting value out of nade, so using it in that way and realizing it was wasted won't set you back as much. Duplicate also charges really fast, but getting ult charge with echo can be harder due to shields, bubbles, roofs, etc.

[–]Ever_Learner_15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it but, to each they’re own lol

At least for me it has more control of who I nano. It’s been way too many times that I accidentally nano an incorrect target. So I’ll try your advice and lower the sensitivity, because sometimes, yeah I get stuck with nano too many times by missing a window of opportunity.

[–]KYZ123Echo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having confirm Nano on doesn't delay reactive Nanos too much, since tapping Q twice with it will activate Nano on the second tap. The added delay is however long that second tap takes, which usually isn't long enough to warrant the risk of missing a non-reactive Nano.

[–]KYZ123Echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree for Echo - the enemy team isn't inclined to position themselves to make it easy for you to target your desired hero, and will typically be actively shooting you when you're trying to target Duplicate. Without confirm Duplicate, it's very easy to target the wrong hero.

For reactive Duplicates, the extra time from having to double tap Q rather than single tap it is fairly minor, especially compared to the startup time Duplicate itself has.

Since it also keeps the target for a few seconds, if they don't die, you can also use it to reposition slightly before actually starting Duplicate. For example, for Ball and Doomfist, you can position yourself above a group of the enemy team and immediately Piledriver / Seismic Slam to get a large amount of ult charge. (In Ball's case, it's feasible to fully charge Minefield with enough targets hit.) Those two will typically be flanking, rather than grouped up with their team, so a few seconds between targeting and ulting can be very helpful.

[–]ILCaponchi 1 point2 points  (12 children)

WHAT!!!!! HOW I DIDN'T KNOW THIS?!!

[–]dogenguSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you find it helpful? I don’t. I have it off. In the midst of the battle I don’t have time to read and react to it. Better just try to aim my nano correctly, like the old way. If someone gets in the way, oh well.

[–]Pretzel-KinggMercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know about the echo one but boy has the Ana one saved me some grief

[–]SimowlSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the hell. I'm an ana main and never knew this. Always thought it'd be a nice option because I'm always scared of nano'ing wrong person but thought it'd be considered like a cheat lol. Thank you op

[–]AncientSharsmau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if I get accidentally Nano Boosted as a support, I do everything I can to not waste it and get elims. I straight up turn into Thanos grabbing the gauntlet: “Fine. I’ll do it myself.”

[–]Forcekin6532 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Can we get this for zarya's bubble too?

[–]v3x93n 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Adding delay to a reactive ability is never good

[–]Forcekin6532 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I know. There just been so many times I'm trying to bubble a rein and Lucio skates by and takes it

[–]PazuuuzuWe are a dying race... 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BUBLIOOOO!

[–]lkuecrarSombra -1 points0 points  (5 children)

So I guess people just don’t read patch notes. But I remember when this happened a year ago or so, this subreddit was flooded with these posts so how are the people here somehow still unaware of this? Lmao

[–]fjorgemotaSigma[S] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I actually try to read the patch notes, but always remember that sometimes life can get busy af and people usually will not read all the patch notes since the game released, so.. Yeah

BTW, I also don't think most people even bother trying to understand the options for each hero, imho.

With that said, do you have any idea about when this option was first introduced?

[–]lkuecrarSombra -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Here’s a post from early 2020 mentioning it, so it’s at least 2 years since that got added

[–]fjorgemotaSigma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting

Yeah, I hadn't seen that at all. Thanks for sharing the link :)

[–]Katevolution 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's almost like OW has new players since that patch 🤔

[–]lkuecrarSombra -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Barely. This game hasn’t been attracting new players since like 2018, which was way before this was added.

[–]TheSpoopy_Ghost_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remembering the time I duplicated a Mercy and Ana yesterday, it was a rough day for me. I mean I also got a D.Va duplication and D.Va bombed twice for POTG that day but the other times were rough

[–]ihaveaquestion337 0 points1 point  (1 child)

is this on console too?

[–]fjorgemotaSigma[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it should be available, as I doubt it's something only valid for PC, but I don't have a console to test...

[–]Torbadajornoi used to be a dps main but queue times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that out for Ana the other day when going through my settings, and am just now finding out Echo has the option. Booting up Overwatch literally right now to turn it on.

[–]vmh21Pharah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saving this for later.

[–]LucidProtean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this on, but I also changed her scope-in to side mouse button so I can't really cancel it because then I'll accidentally throw off a sleep dart (which I put on M2)

[–]Karol-ATank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even some pro players use it, IIRC it was lastro who I've seen playing with it

[–]ifihadasteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when they added that setting. I don't use it because I'm stubborn but it's great that it's there.

[–]pcc2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad it sucks, as you can't shoot when the target is selected.

[–]fussylover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I always wished I could see outlines on every character and turns out you can enable it

[–]SenpaiValkii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve known this since it was a thing for both Ana and Echo

[–]Markkusdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played Ana quite a bit and I never discovered this setting. When was it added to the game?

[–]Kendo_p12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should change it so you have to press ult twice so you can shoot and that while selected

[–]Foxasham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I got used to it, Ana ult confirm was my saving grace. Especially with my fat fingers lol

[–]deku-kun1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I find so I don't nano a mercy By accident

[–]SimubayaPharah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had these settings for ages. Just using them improves your gameplay

[–]Duskinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so excited when this first came out to stop boostios. I had it on for about a week and turned it off, kept taking too long to confirm or something. I couldn't get use to it.... Plus, let Lucio have his fun.

[–]daveDFFA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Set your scoped on Ana and Widow to 47.89

Ashe 51.47

[–]turtle_five -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have 30+ hours on ana and not once did I accidentally nano someone I wasn’t trying to
