GameDeals is supportive of many types of deals, but over time we've needed to prohibit certain categories. This includes mobile deals, betas, trials, free-to-play, crowdfunding, and lootbox bundles.
Discounts on paid content for F2P games are acceptable, but links to the game itself with no discount are not. Games that are always free are also not allowed.
Posts should avoid editorialization and use the following format:
[Store Name] Game title or promotion (Discounted price/Percent off)
For large sales events, there will be too many games to list. Please include some highlight games in the title that you or others may be interested in. More can be posted in the comments, or by using a self-post.
Unauthorized resellers are sites that obtain codes and then resell them without authorization from the publisher. These keys are often obtained from other regions or more dubious sources, and can contain region locks or even be removed from accounts retroactively.
For more information on resellers, see our guide here.
To cut down on spammy posts, we disallow affiliates or referrals being posted on r/GameDeals. However we do make an exception for approved charities. To learn more about affiliate links, check our affiliates page and see our sidebar for approved charities.
r/GameDeals disallows buying, selling, trading, and begging. This is because we don't want to see the comments section turn into a marketplace, and instead prefer the focus be on great conversations. The second reason is simply because we don't have a trust system in place like r/SteamGameSwap does. We ask users to use that subreddit for trading or optionally, r/GameSell or r/GameSwap.
Giveaways should not be chance based nor overly promotional.
Personal giveaways (e.g. a reader giving away a specific game) are allowed, but only in the comments for the relevant deal. For instance, on a Humble Bundle post, an individual key can be shared in the comments of that specific deal. In most cases, bundle posts will have an automatic comment left by AutoModerator specifically for these giveaways.
Please link directly to the deal if at all possible. Don't go through Facebook, URL shorteners, coupon sites or blogspam. If additional information is needed, please post it as a self post and supply more information. Self posts can also be used to post multiple deals together.
Leave a comment disclosing your status/relationship to the game on your submission. Include a brief description of the game. Stick around to answer any questions.
Some disclosure examples can be found here, here, and here.
