They're leaving themselves open to Intel putting out a 6-big-core equivalent big.LITTLE design (maybe 6+6 or something even) Alder Lake platform with Xe G7 graphics and DDR5 RAM capability for ~$30 more, and Intel would win out on branding, bandwidth, and peripherals.
If Intel gets smart about their product stack for this niche and gets their drivers sorted out, that is of course.
I’m not familiar with AMD APU’s what does a 5700G compare to in terms of a regular video card?
If you had to compare it to a GPU, it'd be something like a standard 1050. They're impressive units, but can't really go toe-to-toe with any modern dGPU.
I can't find one for the 5700, but its GPU is basically the same as the 4700/4750 before it and this should give you an idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2XAqQd7ADE
August? Guess they are still prioritizing the higher margin CPU's this summer while constrained at TSMC.
I am not at all convinced that the 5700G is a much lower margin product. At that $359 it's getting dangerously close to the 5800X recent selling prices and is much more than the 5600X.
Why is the 5600g cheaper than the 5600x? Is this essentially a 3600 with a GPU, or is it based on Zen 3?
Because the 5600X is way overpriced. Intel is selling a huge amount in the midrange because their 6 core CPUs go for under $200, and AMD is just giving up market share.
$260 is still way way more than what Intel charges. The 11400 goes for $190 and comes with an integrated GPU, which really emphasizes just how badly AMD was ripping people off with the 5600X. There was no reason for anyone to buy the 5600X unless they wanted to throw their money away.

The benefit of the 5600G is that its iGPU will be presumably significantly faster than Intel's. We'll see how that turns out.
Guessing that they won't bother with a 5600/5700x and just give the bottom of the barrel cezanne dies to the desktop market.
“New 5000 series APUs rumored to be made of Unobtainium.”
I ended up biting the bullet a couple months ago on an AliExpress 4650g for $290 out the door. A bit disappointed at the timing but I was getting impatient. Happy they’re potentially gonna be in people’s hands early August.
I'm new to the PC world. Will these APUs be adequate for Microsoft Flight Simulator? I want to build my son a gaming PC. He'll soon be 13 years old and enjoys NBK2K, Minecraft, Forza, and he thinks he'll like Microsoft Flight Simulator. He has an Xbox Series X and enjoys it, but he said he'd like a PC, too. The problem is that I refuse to pay more than about 10 percent above MSRP for a video card.
r/buildapc would be a better forum for questions (r/hardware is explicitly not for questions), but in general these chips would be a decent platform for older games like minecraft, and utter garbage for Flight Simulator.
