I hate those fake strawberries. They always get me excited for wild strawberries and then disappoint me terribly.

Edit since there seems to be some confusion:

This strawberry is potentilla indica. While technically edible, they’re not particularly flavourful. They mainly taste like seeds and sadness.

The other tiny strawberries which are a wonderful delight to discover in your garden of forest are fragaria vesca.

Both of these grow in my garden, I have put both of them in my mouth and the mock strawberries definitely taste terrible.

[–]funkmasta_kazper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe they have been moved from the Potentilla genus to Duchesnia, but I agree with your identification.

They're also kind of an invasive weed in north America, being native to Eurasia. There are actually 2 common North American wild strawberries - Fragaria vesca and F. virginica - both are edible and quite tasty and sadly get outcompeted in many habitats by the more aggressive Duchesnia.

Edit: i had it wrong, it was changed from Duchesnia to Potentilla. Dang taxonomists!

[–]tcrpz 9 points10 points  (6 children)

They’re still edible and sweet!

[–]Fluid-Bullfrog-9382 14 points15 points  (4 children)

No they taste like nothing. Alpine strawberries taste really sweet but not these mock strawberries

[–]valski1337 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Then they've probably didn't get enough sun. I collect them every year here and depending on the location they vary from almost bitter to super sweet. I even have some in the garden and they taste amazing because sun all day.

[–]No-Use8752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with the Alpine strawberries and discovered the mock strawberries in Asia, yuck.

[–]NorwegianMuse 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is the perfect photo — love it!!

[–]snoozatron 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What a perfectly sweet tableau. 🍄🐌🍓

[–]Ascendant_Mind_01 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Is it weird that I want to know what species of snail that is?

[–]weftly 9 points10 points  (3 children)

i was here to comment that it is a cepaea nemoralis!

[–]cardboard_cactus3141 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Is it not Cepaea hortensis?

I always thought C. nemoralis has a dark lip, whereas C. hortensis has a white/yellow lip.

[–]weftly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is true! so either a hortensis or a juvenile nemoralis :)

[–]Francis_Clampazzo 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Very much r/goblincore vibes. Love it!

[–]ExpatInIreland 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is that a wild strawberry ?

[–]Educational_Drawing7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the screensaver

[–]acrossbones 0 points1 point  (7 children)

If only the shot was in focus, it would be outstanding. Still, a fun sight but man this coulda been one killer shot.

[–]LalalaHurray 14 points15 points  (5 children)

It’s a killer shot it’s just not a picture of a mushroom

[–]acrossbones -1 points0 points  (3 children)

It's out of focus. Like all the subjects are outside of the plain of focus so I beg to differ.

[–]LalalaHurray 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Fine, I just think it’s lovely and they made some choices you disagree with.

[–]acrossbones 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's not a choice if its an accident. Focus is literally step one to photography. I get you like the image. I love it too. But that doesn't mean we have to pretend it's perfect. I'm simply trying to help OP with future shots by giving real feedback instead of hollow compliments and you're arguing with me like your opinion on it matters to me. You clearly don't understand photography and that's fine, but don't argue with someone who does and is just trying to provide constructive feedback. That's how useful information gets buried.

[–]LalalaHurray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion matters enough to you for you to write this freaking book about a photograph you’re wrong about and didn’t even take

[–]YogiBarelyThere 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Snail - “Whoa, man. That strawberry is huge, man. Like look at my upper tentacles, man! They’re like so huge not even my tentacles can touch them, man.”

(Wrong classification, I know but I still think I’m funny, man.)
