Rules

  • Rule one: This sub is for personal buying/selling/trading Ultralight items only! See the list of appropriate items below.

  • Rule two: It is required to tag posts! Please use the following tags at the beginning of post titles. Posts will automatically be removed if they are not included. Acceptable tags: [WTS] = Want to Sell [WTB] = Want to Buy [WTT] = Want to Trade. You can also combine tags, e.g. [WTT/WTS].

  • Rule three: Include at least this info in the title: Manufacturer (or MYOG), item, weight. If applicable: size and gender (for clothing and footwear). Other critical info can be added: e.g.: [WTS] Enlightened Equipment Men's Torrid Jacket, size L, 2018 version, 7 oz. You can list multiple items at once, but if you have more to say than the title allows, please consider making more than one post.

  • Rule four: Posts must contain this mandatory information: Price, weight, item description and photos (see rule five)! Please include all relevant details, like condition of the item (new, used, damages), modifications, size, color, fabric, model year, location (e.g. US/EU/Japan) etc.. People also like to read about personal experiences. Just think what you would want to read if you were a buyer.

  • Rule five: Posts must contain personal photos, including a verification picture. Please use self taken images of the things listed and not just manufacturers stock images. At least one photo has to have the item in frame with a piece of paper with your reddit username and the current date. People also really like seeing items on a scale with the weight in the picture. (this is ULgeartrade after all!) Also: If you could put the verification photo on top, so that we don't have to scroll all the way to the bottom - that would be great!

  • Rule six: Direct sales/trades only! No links to other sites, no auctions, no Ebay, no "or best offer" posts, no gift cards! No pricing/selling based on conditions or arbitrary limitations (regional limits eg. US/Eu only are allowed).

  • Rule seven: No predatory sales or trades! Selling items for over their original retail sales price is prohibited. (Retail plus shipping for new items is ok.) Trading offers with significant value difference (a desirable but low priced item, for a higher priced item or duping someone who does not realize) are not allowed.

  • Rule eight: Rude, derogatory, or off-base comments will be removed and may result in a ban. Comments that are purely critical of pricing, and clearly demonstrating no desire to purchase the item, will be removed.

  • [WTB] posts obviously can't list weights or price. But if you are looking for something in a specific range, please add the info.

How to post pictures

Use a service like imgur.com to upload images and put the link into your post.

ULGeartrade Etiquette

  • After you sell something prices should be left in listings once an item is sold so that people shopping for gear can see recent sale prices.

  • Cross-posting between r/ULgeartrade and r/Geartrade is ok!

  • Reposts are allowed, but there should be at least one week between posting the same item.

  • [WTB] posts should be SPECIFIC. Do not post "WTB - 2 person tent" unless you have an idea of the brands/models you're interested in. Only make a [WTB] post after searching to see if what your are looking for is already listed for sale.

Safety

  • We recommend the use PayPal Business for payment. This ensures you are offered full protection from PayPal as both a buyer and seller, at a mere 3% cost to yourself. Use Friends and Family at your own risk with only people who you fully trust, since F&F forfeits you all protections.

  • Use a safe shipping method, tracking and insurance is recommended.

  • Please report all suspicious posts to the mods.

  • We created a separate post with security advice here: How to not get scammed

  • Please note the Universal Scammer List on Reddit!

Tips to help you sell:

  • Understand market prices. Please do some research and realize that anything second hand, even new with tags is subject to depreciation.

  • Post multiple, high quality, clear pictures, and note any damages. Factor damages into your price.

  • Post a clear, detailed description. Sharing why you’re selling the item can sometimes help, otherwise be prepared to get asked why from nosey users.

  • r/Reppit is a good resource for buyer/seller feedback. If you're happy with your transaction, leave some feedback!

Appendix: Whats Appropriate for this subreddit? In order to qualify as an ultralight item please try to follow the recommended guidelines on these items.

  • Packs - 3 lbs. or less.

  • Tents - 3 lbs. or less

  • Tarps - silnylon, silpoly, or cuben fiber only

  • Sleeping Bags/Quilts - 2 lbs. or less

  • Sleeping pads - 1 lb. or less

  • Stoves - 3.5 oz. or less

  • Pots/Mugs - 4.5 oz. or less

  • Fleece/Insulated Tops - 13 oz and under (exceptions made for XL and XXL clothing)

These are not the only items permitted, but these guidelines should help you get the idea. Bug nets, bivys, stakes, cord, etc. are all allowed as well. Clothing items are allowed on this sub, but they should fall into what the r/ultralight community considers to be an ultralight clothing item. Examples include the lightweight down jackets like a MHW Ghost Whisperer, rain jackets like a Montbell Versalite or OR Helium, fleece jackets like a Kuiu Peloton, vests like a Borah Gear Down Vest ect. ect. If you are not sure if your item belongs here please message the mods and we will help you determine if this is the right place for you. Also consider using r/GearTrade for non ultralight items.

This is a high-volume but lightweight load hauler backpack. The pack is lightly used, primarily on a couple test hikes and one two-night trip. The white fabric shows just a bit of dirt.

It’s built around a stiff, U-shaped .433” Easton 7075 tubular aluminum frame. I chose the .433” diameter because it has a thicker wall than other Easton tube sizes. It has a hybrid design with a hanging hip belt directly bolted to the frame but also an integrated lumbar pad. The lumbar pad has removable 10mm Evazote foam and has been much more comfortable for me than a hanging hip belt alone. The foam can be removed or replaced with different foam. It also keeps the belt from flopping down. I’ve built 7 packs using this frame design, and have used these packs on a 10 day backpacking trip as well as carrying 60+ pounds of skiing and packrafting gear. I’ve found it to be extremely comfortable and to haul weight like a champ. It draws inspiration from Seek Outside and the SWD Big Wild.

It’s ideally set up for packrafting with large side pockets and dual daisy chains for lashing PFDs, etc. The side pockets have pass-through slots for the compression straps, allowing you to clip the compression straps to a modular talon compression panel or a packraft bow bag. The middle piece (the lower “u”) of the frame can be removed so that the pack will fit in a packraft cargo fly. While designed with packrafting in mind, it can be used for any application involving a bulky or heavy load.

The main pack is constructed from the latest Challenge Ecopak EPLX400. All pack seams are double stitched and bound with 1” grosgrain. See the photos for more construction details. Side pockets are made from Challenge Ultragrid and are dimensioned to give them significant useable volume. They have replaceable shock cords and bottom drain grommets.

Hip belt and shoulder straps are made from Ultragrid and 1/8” spacer mesh. The shoulder straps use 10mm genuine Evazote EV50 foam, and the hip belt is 15mm Evazote foam. Shoulder straps are attached ~20.5” from the bottom of the hip belt. I have a ~19” torso and this is a good fit for me. It should fit an 18-20” torso depending on how you like the pack to ride. Best bet is to measure this same distance on a pack that fits you (assuming it has load lifters). The conical hip belt is ~30” long and should fit down to a 34” waist and up to a 38-40” waist. It has two independently adjustable 1” buckles for optimal fit. See the photos for how the belt fits my 36” waist and 19” torso.

I’ve built well over a dozen load hauler backpacks, and have been using them exclusively for my personal packrafting and extended backpacking trips for around 3 years. I am an amateur MYOG enthusiast who occasionally sells packs to fund the next project. MYOG is an expensive hobby! I use an industrial sewing machine, 1/2” seam allowances, and heavy-duty, bonded poly V69 tex 70 thread. I am not a pro but I’ve used my packs enough to feel good about the construction. If something fails due to my workmanship, I’ll make it right up to and including a refund. You can see other packs I’ve made at https://www.instagram.com/sew_dreamy__designs/

Asking $250 shipped to the lower 48. Inquire about shipping to AK. Payment via PayPal, I’ll cover the G&S fee.
