What is palæontology? Literally, the word translates from Greek παλαιός + ον + λόγος [ old + being + science ] and is the science that unravels the æons-long story of life on the planet Earth, from the earliest monera to the endless forms we have now, including humans, and of the various long-dead offshoots that still inspire today. This community is open to anyone interested in paleontology, fossils, and evolution.

I loved this show on bbc when i was younger lol i think yhis is big al
Yeah this show was awesome
How do we know anything about the behavioral patterns of animals that lived so long ago? Real question I’m new :)
When it comes to behavior reconstructions, researchers commonly observe the behavior of modern day animals that are related to the ancient species, or the behavior of species that occupy the same ecological niche they do.
Yeah but how do we know allosaurus had never seen such bullshit before?
You can tell just by looking at his face
Apparently any evidence of the different relationships between the dinosaurs is one of the most interesting studies for palaeontologists:
They study fossils and hypothesise about what evolutionary niche the animal filled, then compare its estimated needs to modern animals today to see how it it would fit in a Dino ecosystem
We don’t know for sure, but we do have educated guesses based on what we know of today’s animals. Herds of various species guard their young in the middle, so it makes sense that a dinosaur herd would do the same.

Aw man. I thought I had found a dinosaur meme sub, but it's just a general dinosaur sub!
Still kick ass, but... Dinosaur memes...
There has to be a sub full of dinosaur memes out there somewhere. We’ll find it.
Edit: Found it. r/dinosaurmemes That was easy.
Fun fact: when talking about multiple dinosaurs, you say "saurus" not "sauruses"

I feel like this might be a similar scenario to Octopodes and Octopuses both being accurate. Not a linguist though so I don't know for sure.
I always had the impression that you use -sauruses like "Hey, look at that herd of Brachiosauruses over there!"
And you use -saurs when you're speaking about members of the genus in a more general way. "Brachiosaurs are really big."
Brachiosauruses and Brachiosauri are the most correct I believe.
I believe it's a mouse - mice situation. Brachiosaurus, Brachiosaurice.
Amateur hour over here!
Yes and no. For example, tyrannosaurus are tyrannosaurs, but not all tyrannosaurs are Tyrannosaurus. When using the genus name to refer to multiple individuals, you just use the same word (but no longer a proper noun) unaltered. But saying "the brachiosaurs are herding" is technically not incorrect, and may be more aesthetically pleasing than saying "the brachiosaurus are".
You know what. Imma edit my comment because I used a bad example
Goddamn brachiosauruses and their herding
yes
