I noticed a lot of parallels between these two characters and certainly believe these parallels we see are almost certainly intentional on GRRM's part:

  • bigger sister and younger brother have a rocky relationship. The big sister wonders whether she truly loves her little brother, partly because of a succession feud, and partly because of having spent time apart.

  • Both young women who tried to ensure their own position instead of losing it to their male relatives.

  • Both have a younger brother who were warded by a rival house that their own family had trouble with for most of their childhood, and grew to see the rival lord as their father.

  • Both have a younger brother who got extremely physically messed up recently (although one of them is still alive)

  • Both lost their virginity to a person of lower rank (Tris/Daemon) who are also very intelligent, and both went to their lovers' fathers for marriage permission and were turned down immediately. However, both do give sound advice and work with their ex-lovers.

  • both were born in 276 AC

  • They both have an absent mother

  • both have a badarse, charismatic exiled uncle.

  • both storylines are kicked off by the death of an uncle.

  • Their families are also parallels in their voyage to Slaver's Bay to marry Dany. Quentyn has died by burning, and Vic likely will as well when he blows the horn, Quentyn burns outside, Vic burns inside.

What do you think? Is this just a parallel GRRM used to structure AFFC and ADWD with, or might it also be useful for predicting what will happen going forward?
