In all the best and inspiring ways, Alex Zanardi continues to be a ridiculous outlier of a human.

Fucking forza, Alex.

This guys is incredible, he should have been dead many times over

Is IMS/IndyCar going to bring him to The 500, to Announce "Racer's Start Your Engines", then Watch the Race from The Pagoda? That should be Heartwarming for Everybody.

At this point, I'm not sure how well he actually could be to travel and verbally communicate 6 months from now. His injuries were absolutely horrific, and they've been intentionally vague about how "well" he actually is in terms of what you and I would consider "well". I just hope he recovers well enough that he can eventually communicate with that fantastic Alex sense of humor that we all love.

Yeah, people don’t spend 18 months in a hospital because of a few broken bones.

I imagine a lot of compounding issues with his previous injuries make recovery and rehabilitation a lot more difficult

Its got to be, but i am wondering if it is head injury due to lack of speech?

The mention of using speech therapists and he is working on arm strength in the article is good sign.

Nicely stated, i completely agree and i hope he recovers and we see him in series in a capacity for the fans, i know he cant drive again which might have been possible before this accident but i hope he makes a full recovery, he was such a great driver, just an overall great human being... 9 lives....

"Just when I thought I was out, I pull myself back in"

What happened to him?

Got hit head on by a semi truck while on his handcycle.

He was in the hospital the whole time???? Even in the height of Covid?!?!?!? What an animal

Which also speaks to the severity of his injuries. Hospitals are not keeping anyone who doesn’t absolutely need to be there. Most get moved to a rehab facility as soon as they’re stable enough.

Covid knows better than to fight A.Z.

He is a legend. They should make him the star of all Dos Equis commercials at this point.

He actually died yesterday but he is feeling better now

This guy Zanardi has 9 lives, NO doubt about it. I hope he returns to the love of cycling but that seems to be over from reading about this, it is another tragic situation but he moves on... That is a true sportsman, it is remarkable that he became a multiple champion in cycling...I love it, i loved when he was in Indycar it was tragic what happened but he didn't let that stop him... just awesome i love stories like this. Hands DOWN true sportsman!
