Aldi is pretty good. I've been going to and ordering from them for the past few years. Saving a good chunk of money and still getting good products.

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 168 points169 points  (28 children)

Their ranch is good!

[–]Fox_Specialist 123 points124 points  (19 children)

If you can find it in your store, the cranberry almond chicken salad is so yummy!

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 54 points55 points  (4 children)

I've seen it! Will try!

[–]Jake_Jacobson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Crab Rangoon dip!

[–]jasikanicolepi 5 points6 points  (2 children)

How's that pasta salad? I walk pass that and the potato salad all the time.

[–]EVGARTX3060 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It’s pretty fucking good. I usually don’t pasta salad and such but I like it

[–]tiredmommy13 35 points36 points  (5 children)

You just reminded me of the cranberry & white cheddar block that comes out in the fall. It’s my favorite thing ever

[–]awkwardarchaeopteryx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is year-round at my store and one of my favorite things to buy when I can splurge a little.

[–]I_H8_2_love_U_4_ever 16 points17 points  (4 children)

If you have Casey's convenience stores in your area, try a chicken salad croissant. You would be surprised at how tasty their food choices are.

[–]rimjobnemesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man…that’s one of my favorites!

[–]lickityslits 20 points21 points  (5 children)

Those pizza snacks are better than the name brand by far.

[–]Lightofmine 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Honestly their French bread pizza is the shit too

[–]Huey_P 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Let em know! And we just got a LIDL near me i'm all the way in the game.

[–]OppositePattern6903 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The peanut butter is good. And, the salsa tortilla chips, when they are in.

[–]kinsmandmj 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Wish I had an Aldi closer to me. 89 miles away is the closest one.

[–]HollandEmme 88 points89 points  (15 children)

I love Aldi so much!

[–]One-Championship-359 130 points131 points  (11 children)

You love Aldi's nuts in ur mouth lmao

[–]HollandEmme 64 points65 points  (4 children)

They usually do have a good deal on cashews. 😜

[–]Ricky_Rollin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And biltong! A sugarless jerky.

[–]xandaar337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And pistachios! Don't eat the hot dogs though. They're legit nasty.

[–]just_for_research_69 13 points14 points  (2 children)

He probably also loves a Lidl dick in his mouth

[–]4theloveofgelabis 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Do you have Lidl in your area? I recently moved to an area that has them. They are awesome also!

[–]Recluse_18 305 points306 points  (39 children)

Do the pizza rolls in an air fryer if you got one, it’s total game changer

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 126 points127 points  (29 children)

Yup that's what I do! The best!

[–]Recluse_18 89 points90 points  (25 children)

I sometimes forget to use the air fryer and yet it’s the perfect kitchen appliance to do most everything. Corndogs, pizza rolls, eggrolls, boneless pork chop, chicken wings, most everything is better in the air fryer and it doesn’t heat up the whole house

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 50 points51 points  (13 children)

Love me some chicken thighs in the air fryer. Heck even vegetables like broccoli and asparagus. Made fries from scratch in there too. Fries from a bag of russets is some hella poverty finance and they're so good!

[–]captainant 15 points16 points  (9 children)

Some halved brussels sprouts tossed with oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and some balsamic.... Oooooo baby an air fryer makes those things SING

[–]Beardgang650 2 points3 points  (8 children)

I think your comment has convinced me to buy an air fryer

[–]fe1od1or 4 points5 points  (5 children)

If you have the space, buy a toaster oven with a convection function. Same exact thing, but more versatile.

[–]Red-eleven 1 point2 points  (2 children)

How do you do chicken thighs in the air fryer?

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Marinade them in something and then cook skin up on 400 for like 20ish minutes. The skin gets Soo crispy. That was my go to when chicken thighs were 99 cents a pounds. Now I try to buy the whole leg when I can find it. Tends to be cheaper.

[–]mellofello808 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Uses much less energy than heating up the stove as well.

I rarely use my fancy convection oven anymore, unless I need to do a big batch of something

[–]AnonymousCharmander 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Exactly, air fryer needs to be just as included in houses

[–]NeedsMoreBunGuns 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Air fried brats areveey good too. Even those little $1 steaks fry up nice.

[–]lIl_dude_lIl 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Make a parmesean garlic butter sauce to coat them beforehand

[–]Liiono 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Please tell me a good recipe for this sauce.

[–]Middle-Seaweed4214 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the person you were asking but…

I cook my potatoes with a little oil and salt and pepper them. When cooked I toss them in butter that has garlic and fresh parsley and dill added to it. The uncooked garlic is more pungent

[–]Slipperypepe 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Totino's changed something and now they taste horrible. Are these any better?

[–]caladan7300 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I bought Totinos recently and they were truly disgusting! Aldi or Save a lot brand's are much better and bigger too!

[–]metsastaja_kalastaja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say the same thing… now I’m sayin it like Eeyore.

[–]Advice2Anyone 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How much better compared to stove. Dont have a air fryer but might be worth the 30 bucks for one

[–]enonymous715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am now going to buy pizza rolls just so I can try this. Sounds delish

[–]socool111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot dogs in air fryer is def the award for most improved foood by switching to air fryer imo

[–]Snowmist92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! I do this all the time with pizza rolls now.

[–]Tempintern23 423 points424 points  (57 children)

Damn food looks smaller every time with this inflation. For 52 bucks it doesn't look a lot to me. But idk ig thats how it goes now.

[–]Honest_Coast6586 92 points93 points  (13 children)

it is kinda expensive items - sliced cheese, baby-brand name cucumbers, bacon, etc. but yeah it sucks

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 48 points49 points  (4 children)

And the cucs were 1.32, that's cheap! and my 7 month old loves snacking on them in spear form

[–]Bowsermama 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Those mini cukes are $5-6 in Hawaii, it SUCKS!!

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 58 points59 points  (7 children)

Yes it is possible to have done it even cheaper still but I like treats for my mental health and that is worth something too!

[–]Honest_Coast6586 16 points17 points  (4 children)

yep np with that! Just pointing out as people were talking inflation - that's not too bad (:

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 146 points147 points  (8 children)

Inflation def hit Aldi too. But yeah that's how it goes now unfortunately lol

[–]jettaguy25 37 points38 points  (3 children)

The choco milk is going up and thats how I know shits getting hairy:(

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It ain't right!

[–]Lets-B-Lets-B-Jolly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a $1.08 half gallon managers special at our Aldi's today. But when we got there, it was already all out :(

[–]DasChemist 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's no escaping it unfortunately, but Aldi is still passing along the savings. What's pictured would have been $35-40 a couple years ago, but it's still a steal compared to Walmart etc

[–]Tempintern23 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats what i thought as well haha. It looked less for what it was. But eh idk man. You gotta eat regardless. But oh well. Enjoy :)

[–]uvelloid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When the canned beans went up 20% I knew inflation finally hit Aldi

[–]foresthome13 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nice haul! I love Aldi's and they have a lot of good international foods.

[–]unabashe_ 63 points64 points  (23 children)

How’s their produce ?

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 113 points114 points  (10 children)

Hit or miss. Berries were looking good tho and only 1.99 each. Always get the mini cucumbers and salad kits there. Mini cucs we're only 1.32 this week!

[–]albert-jerrick 15 points16 points  (8 children)

Which salad kits do you like? I’ve never liked the ones there

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 36 points37 points  (4 children)

I always get the southwest one. That's the only one I like and even sometimes I'm like meh. But that goes for ALL salad kits these days. So much cabbage! And kind of pricey when you think about what you actually get. But it is convenient! And that counts for something!

[–]BerryinDisguise 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Kale mix is so good too. Can’t go wrong with Caesar or Bacon Ranch Avocado.

[–]EveAndTheSnake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think of it as paying my adhd tax. Is it worth the money? No, probably not. But it’s already in a bag ready to go. If I buy the ingredients separately it works out more expensive and a waste because I forget to prep them or can’t find the motivation. Adhd tax. For the convenience, because unfortunately that’s just the way it is.

[–]bellhopd0g 4 points5 points  (1 child)

My go-to lunch is their Asian chop salad with a packet of their Sweet Thai tuna packets (the one with the maroon label top). You’d think I’d grow tired of it… I eat it maybe 3-4x a week but I haven’t yet!

[–]Specific-Culture-638 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asian salad on a tortilla with some popcorn shrimp. Drizzle some hoisin sauce on. Trust me!

[–]rimjobnemesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our Aldi just got the Cobb salad. It’s my favorite (because of chopped boiled eggs) next to the Southwest one.

[–]jackgundy 25 points26 points  (6 children)

Ask an employee at your local Aldi what day they typically restock. They claim to restock daily, but the one I frequent actually restocks most produce on Wednesday, so that's by far the best day to get the good stuff.

[–]abbyabsinthe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No, we get produce in everyday. Wednesday might be different because certain divisions get in a shit ton of ad item produce so supplies last longer, but each store gets like 3-8 pallets of produce everyday depending on the store's sales, and regional availability.

[–]beeboop407 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on location, the produce is always primo at the one by me.

[–]_Sweater_Puppies_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep it all in the fridge! Same with bread

[–]gurlyface 13 points14 points  (11 children)

AND a candle !! Omw to Aldi’s rn

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 15 points16 points  (7 children)

Never tried their candles before but heard good things. 4.59!

[–]gurlyface 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Beats the 12$ ones at walmart

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay I tried it. Great candle and can't beat that price. Def buying more.

[–]FistyMcStab666 44 points45 points  (27 children)

This would cost 90 to 100$ Canadian dollars here

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 56 points57 points  (17 children)

Would be about 100 American at my "regular" store

[–]cheetochanga 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I didn't know the dollar sign went after the amount in Canada.

[–]tametrees 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Did your sour cream also go from ~.60 to $1.49? 😡

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

1.48 beat ya lol jk it was def hovering around a dollar not too long ago. 60 cents would be amazing. I'm sure it probably was that a few years ago.

[–]Huey_P 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Aldi has been my go to for years. FYI their spaghetti sauce is pretty damn good lol. It's become one of my favs.

[–]BernyThando 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Funny enough I just tried it this week and thought the same. It's seasoned/salty compared to the Organic other store brand that I bought which tasted bland and too acidic.

[–]pChristian70 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Would have 35 bucks a year ago

[–]asshat41599 9 points10 points  (6 children)

How do them pizza rolls taste I could prolly air dry them.

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

They are pretty solid pizza rolls. I'd say comparable to anything at a "regular" store. But they're still like pizza rolls so ya know lol always have a little bit of shame when I eat a whole plate of these as a "grown up"

[–]asshat41599 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Nice hell I dun left all my shame in Pittsburgh 10 years ago so I'm good 😂. Sounds delicious I'll have to try them.

[–]maximumtesticle 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I could prolly air dry them.

Like raisins or jerky?

[–]SeaJeans 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Aldi is the best!! I don't grocery shop anywhere else, except the once in a blue moon HEB trip. HEB is still cheaper than Walmart. (Us Texans love HEB) but Aldi reigns 1st and best for me.

Even when moved out to the country this year, I drive 25 min to Aldi instead of going to brookshires in town or Walmart 13 miles over.

Looks like a nice trip for you!

[–]Lets-B-Lets-B-Jolly 2 points3 points  (1 child)

No HEB in my part of Texas and I swear it was the only way we survived in a college town as a newlywed couple having our first baby. So many deals there! And all the store brand was as good as the name brand if not better.

[–]SeaJeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hill country fair all the wayyy babyyyy! My bestie works for the business center for HEB and has been there for years. She sometimes let me use her employee perks card. I worked as a cashier while in college and LOVED it. The perks card was prob the best part of the job. It was like the points club but way extra. They also give random 100 dollar bills through out the year, too.

[–]Busman123 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Thanks that's good to see! Also, I will not food shame you!

[–]petalsonros3s 4 points5 points  (1 child)

i just got those pepperoni pizza rolls today too twinsies

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sooo many pizza rolls 🤩

[–]downwithllc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They also have a lot of good gluten free items for affordable prices. If you happen to even be unfortunate enough to develop a gluten allergy.

[–]lilBloodpeach 101 points102 points  (28 children)

Fruit, some veggies, dairy yet all anyone can point out is the couple bags of morale boosting junk food 🙄

[–]rabidstoat 28 points29 points  (7 children)

I'm lamenting the lack of either chocolate or knock-off Girl Scout cookies!

[–]willdanceforpizza 13 points14 points  (4 children)

The knock-off girls scout cookies are devine! I miss Aldi so much (moved and the closest one is about a 15 hour drive) and lament about it every few months or so.

[–]rabidstoat 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I found good knock-off cookies at Dollar General for pretty cheap, admittedly this was pre-COVID. I think they were the thin mint types.

[–]ICUpikachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aldi chocolate chip cookies are amazing and are literally like 1/3rd the price of the chips ahoy sitting next to them. The fact I feel like I’m doing better for the environment shopping there for not using plastic bags and it’s my only grocery store

[–]lilBloodpeach 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Aldi chocolate is amazing

[–]rabidstoat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I buy this type of dark chocolate where it comes in little blocks that are like 30 calories each and I put one on my pillow every night and pretend like I'm in a fancy resort.

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 37 points38 points  (1 child)

FOR REAL!

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

And each shop is different this is just the things I wanted and needed right now. And I shop at other stores too so you can't judge by one little snap shot. I just thought it was a good amount of stuff for 52 bucks.

[–]chaparrita_brava 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yay more Aldi! And don't let anyone shame you about your purchase choices. You deserve all of it!

[–]RickySpamish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

/cries in southern with no Aldi, Piggly Wiggly or HEB in sight...just the douche trio Kroger-Walmart&Brookshires

[–]whatisatiger 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Nice! I just stopped at the most convenient grocery store on my home from a family dinner in a working class neighborhood. I bought an off brand tub of yogurt, 5 bananas, two avocados (on sale!) a package of not individually wrapped string cheese and a bag of salad. Just under $17. I feel bad for the people who have that store as their only option.

[–]gothtitts 3 points4 points  (1 child)

No seriously I went to aldis the other day got so many things for only $37 I was shocked

[–]muri_cina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does not look like it will be enough for a week

[–]4EverDank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yikes this why I don't shop there id starve lol.

[–]DoshSpanky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yo they have some good cheese 🧀

[–]HmmSinkSo 24 points25 points  (41 children)

Can someone seriously tell me, is this actually, genuinely considered a bargain? The above would not cost me anywhere near £41 at Aldi in the UK, it'd be like £15-18. I kind of want to post my next Lidl shop but I feel like compared to these US Aldi posts it'd come across as bragging.

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 29 points30 points  (24 children)

Post it! I love cheap food porn. Us Americans would be hella jealous tho yes lol that's crazy cheap!

[–]HmmSinkSo 6 points7 points  (7 children)

I will after my next shop! It's just kind of crazy to me that things are so expensive there, I feel like people tend to assume the UK is expensive but at least based on food prices, it's really not!

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Wait til you see our doctors bills lol! But yeah I def feel like our society has become unsustainable. What's UK immigration policy? LOL

[–]HmmSinkSo 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Pretty strict since we left the EU, I imagine! US hospital bills are mad, my son's birth, midwife visits, everything was 100% free, mothers also get free dental care and prescriptions while pregnant and for a year after giving birth. I'm self-employed and still got 39 weeks paid leave, too, just for paying 13 weeks' worth of voluntary national insurance contributions, since I earn under the threshold.

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Okay now I do think you're bragging lol

[–]HmmSinkSo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry 😂 Guess we all need some perspective sometimes!

[–]oreo-cat- 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I was looking at immigration. Some industries are absolutely starved since Brexit. Getting visas in those is crazy easy.

[–]oais89 6 points7 points  (15 children)

Do you know why groceries are more expensive in the US than in (most of) Europe?

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 8 points9 points  (10 children)

No why?

[–]oais89 10 points11 points  (9 children)

Just wondering! :)

I visited the US and noticed groceries were really costly. I was hoping perhaps you or someone else knew why there's such a difference in price between the US and much of Europe. The US produces tons of food, I figured groceries would be much cheaper than they are.

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh I read that wrong! Yeah I don't know either probably some bullshit reason lol

[–]SyntheticElite 4 points5 points  (3 children)

It's inflation. Some stuff here is REALLY cheap and some stuff isn't, but everything has gone up a ton lately.

I just got 8 large chicken thighs for $4.50 though, so not everything is that bad. Chicken and pork are still pretty budget friendly.

[–]These-Days 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Chicken thighs have doubled in price at my local chain in the last two years. It's been painful

[–]simon_C 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Capitalism. It's just greed. We have to pay it, so they pump up the price on everything.

[–]lisamummwi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Inflation has hit the US hard. This would have been $20 two years ago. Source: Live here. Shop at Aldi's.

[–]Varn 6 points7 points  (1 child)

My mom and I sometimes call each other just to say how much we spent on x bags of groceries. Before the horrible inflation we would be complaining about 30-40 dollars of food in 2 bags. Now I can easily drop 60+ on 2 bags. We usually double bag so we can fit a decent amount in 1 bag but still it's rediculous. Add in non food items like shampoo/body wash and it adds up alot quicker

[–]SyntheticElite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think gorcery stores are capitalizing on the inflation excuse and raising prices even higher than they otherwise should. I bet almost all grocery store chains are going to have record profit this year.

[–]LexyNoise 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, this quantity of similar food would be about 25 USD in a Scottish Aldi. We don’t have the exact same brands. Our dish soap is “Magnum” for example.

Why are food prices so expensive in the US? Doesn’t their government massively subsidise farmers to grow staple crops? How does that translate into such high prices in stores.

[–]47981247 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Hey and you got yourself a nice scented candle! Light it up when you have a bubble bath!

[–]Forever_ForLove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The float Aldi from me is a 2 hour drive. The one that use to be close to me was shut down due to roach infestation.

[–]skootnu 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Aldi the mvp

[–]stalepopcorn999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depresses me

[–]Dear_Woodpecker_8199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not really an accomplishment. Also, the candle isn't necessary

[–]Marloo25 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Same exact candle I bought at Aldi’s yesterday for $3.99.

[–]TracieV42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Aldis so hard. Especially their produce. I only go to the Big Chain Grocery Stores here when I need cat food and litter any more.

[–]Fast_Bit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last week, we were going back to the store thinking they forgot to charge us for something, we got a lot of items including meat for less than $40 We checked the ticket and everything was there! We could not believe it.

[–]y0shawtii 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Wait I don’t want everyone to know about Aldi the prices will go up 😭😭

[–]SherryBobbins1[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They already are friend 🤫 lol

[–]RCascanbe 2 points3 points  (2 children)

But they will also open more stores so cheap food is more widely available.

Other german supermarkets like LIDL are a good alternative if available btw, German supermarket chains are very competitive with their pricing so prices tend to stay lower with more competition (and I think Lidl products are better).

BTW is it just Aldi in the US? In Germany it's split into Aldi South and Aldi North.

[–]MaxAxiom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This man has turned the food pyramid upside down.

[–]driplikewata 5 points6 points  (1 child)

That seems like a lot for no meat

[–]Historical_Panic_465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

idk why i find that $55 bucks for this amount of groceries is still insanely expensive! this should be at MOST like $25-30 bucks...my local 99 Cent Only store has surprisingly great produce and other food/snacks. all food items there are $1. i wouldn’t be able to survive without that store...

in some states you would have to work 6 hours to pay just for these few items you have...this isn’t even close to enough food to last 1 week for 1 single person! My weekly budget for food for just myself is about $50-60 bucks, i rely on buying rice and oats for cheap in bulk and cheap pasta noodles and lots of fresh produce to stay within that budget, meat is typically out of the question for me or bought for a special occasion or treat. i live in LA and make $15 an hour.

[–]tishitoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing.

[–]Akavinceblack 1 point2 points  (3 children)

All my East Coast friends brag about Aldi and I feel so left out.

[–]abajasiesu 1 point2 points  (2 children)

We have one opening here soon. Very excited to check it out.

[–]nooniewhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best place for fruit!

[–]Pink_Sky_ 1 point2 points  (2 children)

And sadly it all tastes bad. My experience.

[–]ejohns19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aldi’s are getting crazy expensive in Minneapolis. Honestly cheaper stuff at other places.

[–]BreweryStoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a tip: Get things like chips, candles, soap, and certain condiments at the dollar store. Things like dairy, fruit, and large portions of frozen foods will be better at places like Aldi. Unless you can find items less than $1.25-$1.50. Basically don’t buy everything at one place. Buy things that are cheaper at different places.

[–]T8ert0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their Clancy's version of Cool Ranch Doritos are great.

[–]S1I3NCER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the fuck!?!? That’s $200 bucks here in USA

[–]Damet_Dave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t read all the responses but waiting for “that’s all you got for 52 dollars” guy.

[–]aBoxOfRitzCrackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much was that candle?

[–]Its-the-cold-truth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christ, that's all you got from aldis for 50 bucks? This is worse than I thought.

[–]dr_van_nostren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta stop buying the ORGANIC bananas

[–]_flowerchild95_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just moved to an area with a ton of Aldi’s and a few Lidl’s and I’m in heaven

[–]ramen-in-a-pan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to say "meh, not bad"

But then i saw the candle

I remember 20 years ago (not even that long god honest) I could fill a shopping cart for 100$. Aldi's might be the only place you can still do that if you're smart.

[–]malificide15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend about 140-180 there to feed my family of four for two weeks. It's made such a drastic change since we started shopping there as opposed to food4less and Albertsons, both on the price and quality is food, only thing I don't get at Aldi are chips

Used to be 35.00

Props to OP. So many people are insulting the junk food (a few people are providing good advice about the financial and health consequences about junk food), but overall this is a solid shopping trip.

And props to OP because even when some of the assholes in the comments insult them they’re staying positive. That mentality will go a long way. Just ignore the dickweeds and do not engage or they will drag you down to their level.

Who is celebrating diabetes? You don't get diabetes from eating some chips now and then. This is my ALDI purchase. You don't know what's in my fridge/pantry.

    Aldi is fucking awesome

    [–]Boneal171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    I love Aldi

    [–]Nic571114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Aldi! I’m lucky I have 2 near me

    [–]dqrules11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from the North East, 150 dollars of groceries at Aldi's is equivalent to 400 dollars from Wegmans and this is not an exaggeration. I love Wegmans for the specialty stuff but Aldi's is SO much cheaper.

    [–]sufferinsucatash 8 points9 points  (15 children)

It still seems like Aldi is about as high as a regular grocery store tho. I mean I think I could get most of that for the same price…

    Minus the candle lol

    [–]SherryBobbins1[S] 11 points12 points  (5 children)

I splurged on the pizza rolls, candle and pasta salad. Take those items away and you knock off almost 16 dollars.

    [–]sufferinsucatash 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Well that’s ok, get what you like!

I’m just saying that with all the off brands, I could prob roll up to a Kroger and grab most of that for similar pricing.

You would think Aldi would be cheaper by more. Glad you like the store tho.

I’m just thinking out loud, do you.

    [–]SherryBobbins1[S] 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I think Aldi def used to be even cheaper. I don't have a Kroger tho and I think at my grocery store (Giant) I'd spend close to 100 on this.

    [–]sufferinsucatash 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Do you have Flipp the app?

Kinda fun to plan shopping trips based on the ads

    [–]SherryBobbins1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but I am downloading that now! Sounds awesome thank you!

    [–]Minnor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kroger used to be about 100% more expensive than aldi about two years ago. Same groceries, 60 at aldi would be 120 at kroger. Nowadays tougher to say

    [–]DulceFroyo 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Definitely not, at least where I am? ShopRite near me has prices that lowkey look like they're price gouging, even before the pandemic. Like, I should not be paying over $100 on like 12 things that aren't even expensive. Bought pricey stuff at Aldis, more stuff than ShopRite, and didn't even hit $100

    [–]sufferinsucatash 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh ok, is there a target nearby?

    [–]I_Am_Dwight_Snoot 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Can confirm but I also live with 25 miles of their headquarters. Minus meats Aldi hasn't really adjusted their prices too much.

    [–]DulceFroyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, meat always tends to be a little on the pricey side from what I've seen, especially now

Protip for PF. Stop buying snack food and prepared food. It’s not only terrible food, it’s also pricey. I buy bulk meat( and freeze), and rice, from Sam’s club, as well as weekly 2lb bags of broccoli florets, and 2paks almond milk. Bulk lentils from indian store. Buy less than $10 woth of odds and ends weekly from local grocery. My monthly food bill is about a $100. It was about $85 before recent inflation. I feel like i eat really well, and don’t feel undernourished

    [–]SherryBobbins1[S] 122 points123 points  (12 children)

Poor people deserve snacks too lol!! But I know what you're saying and I do buy a lot of those items as well just not from Aldi so they aren't pictured. I don't keep/eat too much processed junk like the chips and pizza rolls so they will last weeks in my house.

    [–]NoninflammatoryFun 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Aren’t those corn chips like $1? Lol

    [–]SherryBobbins1[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I swear they used to be like 89 cents. Now they're 1.39 😢

    [–]sufferinsucatash 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Sams club really is awesome if you can afford them.

For the $100 plus membership you can get a ton of specials shipped to you for free. Shipping takes a while tho, but their stuff is so cheap and you get sooo much. For a family it’s great. A time saver too

    [–]dumbgrunt_ 14 points15 points  (23 children)

What do with lentils ? Why lentils so popular?

    [–]_Dickarus 33 points34 points  (19 children)

Because they are cheap, filling, and when combined with rice you get complete proteins. I don’t know if you are familiar with Indian food, but i’d recommend mastering a couple of Indian lentil recipes. I buy meat, but very little, as I mostly eat lentils. If you have an indian grocery in your area, go there to buy for real cheap.

    [–]sufferinsucatash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    Barley is fun too
