The largest settlement of the Aleutian Islands is Unalaska (pop. 4,283), which is home to Dutch Harbor, a major commercial fishing port that transfers more than a billion dollars annually. These 69 islands form the northernmost part of the Pacific Ring of Fire and serve as the dividing line between the Bering Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Most of them are part of the US and constitute the southernmost lands of Alaska. The Commander Islands are a subgroup of this archipelago which belong to Russia.

Seward, Alaska has a population of 2,693 (2010 Census figures) and is the fourth-largest city in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. It is among the most lucrative commercial fisheries ports in the US. In 2016, approximately $42 million dollars in fish and shellfish was offloaded here by commercial fishermen. It is the location of the southern terminus of the Alaska Railroad which also makes it a transportation hub for the region and something of a tourism hot spot.

I have a student teacher at the end of his practicum who shared this (link below). The governor passed an Admin (Executive) Order to address the teacher shortage here by allowing anybody to apply for Teacher Cert A — without any formal education.
My student teacher is so pissed that he spent tens of thousands of dollars to get into the profession he loves, and religious homeschooler moms can now get the same cert through experience instead of training. 😞
