Imagine not dropping 2 grand on a GPU just to play Alan Wake 2 with performance upscaling

[–]llmercll 83 points84 points  (3 children)

GFN

[–]Mediocre_Pyke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

performance upscaling

That's what annoys me the most, spending a huge amount of money on the lastest tech just to be unable to play at your monitor native resolution at a decent framerate, like what?

I'm not sure I'm willing to pay this "amazing, oustanding graphics" price if it means upscaling, huge download size, low framerates and compatibility...

[–]TrippymonkyDesktop 137 points138 points  (36 children)

I recently bought a 4070 and got a free copy of Starfield with it. I never even redeemed the code. 14 may be pushing it.

[–]bigjoe980 37 points38 points  (10 children)

man I bought a month of gamepass just to give bethesda the benefit of the doubt and try starfield on pc and I can't even fucking INSTALL the gamepass app after some windows 11 update jank. tried reinstalling, wiped pc, both the store app and the site download both error out every time.

Care to share a code with me? If you don't want it at all I mean. I'd like to give Starfield a shot, but can't buy it in Russia without selling my kidney.

[–]mawding7800X3D/7800XT/32GB DDR5-CL30-6000 45 points46 points  (10 children)

I got starfield with my amd gpu and I’m pretty sure they set it up now so you can’t just giveaway/sell the code. The software checks for that specific part in your system and then binds it to your steam account :(

[–]UofSlayy 8 points9 points  (4 children)

yeah, I got my code off a friend, it involves signing in to both your steam and AMD support account. Makes it hard to sell unless you REALLY trust that person. Then you have to unlink the account or smthn. it isn't just a key code

[–]mawding7800X3D/7800XT/32GB DDR5-CL30-6000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah glad you found a work around! I was pretty upset because I wanted to benchmark starfield with my 2060 super before waiting for my new video card to arrive and also test in comparison but amd support basically said to suck it :(

What kind of Russian are you dude? Asking for an original copy? You people are the masters of online piracy! When I need something more obscure I need to google translate my way around a ton of russian websites, trackers and forums.

You have the power of piracy inside you. Use it!

[–]Brandonmac10x 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Bruh, you’re in fucking Russia. Your country has the websites that host all the cracked copies we download lol.

Just download that shit for free. I doubt your government goes after people who illegally download pirated software. They probably laugh when they hear you’re stealing from Americans and Europeans.

[–]caiteha 50 points51 points  (15 children)

a lot of folks will get them on consoles.

[–]scoii 23 points24 points  (12 children)

Was going to say I thought this was day 1 on console too. I know we're in PC town, but it's not like it's that impossible to get a working copy. Also this is a rare case where Epic is the publisher of the game, not just paying for exclusivity rights. I don't see an avenue to complaining much about their launcher here, but I'm sure the internet will disagree.

[–]GenevaPedestrian 3 points4 points  (11 children)

The game doesn't even have a physical release, which is ridiculous for a AAA game. We still have disc drives in our consoles, let us use them!

[–]nick91884 42 points43 points  (7 children)

I have so many games on my epic games launcher that i have got for free, so if i really wanted to buy it i dont think that would be something to stop me.

[–]Syixice 5 points6 points  (4 children)

so basically Epic won and achieved what they set out to do, at least with you.

But I mean, honestly, same with me. It's devious and extremely clever actually, slowly build up a library for you on Epic with free games (because nobody says no to free stuff) until most of your games are on Epic instead of Steam, so you start buying games on Epic instead. Customer loyalty.

But like I said, I'd be lying if I said their trick didn't work on me. Went from swearing to never buying a game on Epic to... buying a fair few, just because I got so many free games...

[–]nick91884 4 points5 points  (3 children)

To me, it’s good for there to be competition in the market, that’s what drives those free games. Not to say epic is some great company or anything, just saying that having steam, gog, green man, epic and other places to buy games from give customer choice and drive price competition

[–]Claral1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Epic is anything but giving customer a choice, not sure what choice I have when buying Kingdom Hearts 3 given its only available on Epic.

[–]nick91884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be nice to have all games on all platforms/launchers/digital storefronts, but exclusivity is one way besides price that can give these pc game sellers an edge against the others. Its unfortunately but its another facet of competition in the marketplace.

Its annoying having a bunch of different launchers but IMO if i want to get a game, ill get the game, and I don't care if its not on my favorite launcher/shop, I'm not married to a single place for all my games.

The only thing stopping you from getting kingdom hearts 3 is you and that's fine, you don't have to buy games through epic but platform exclusivity isn't going to change any time soon. Epic is trying every trick they can to get a foothold in a market that was dominated by steam, if it wasn't working they wouldn't be shelling out cash for free games and exclusive games. If Steam starts feeling the pressure from Epic, I'm sure they would consider doing the same. Epic must not be siphoning off enough users/sales for them to need to though.

[–]lymeeater 26 points27 points  (1 child)

The only reason I know this game exists is because of the ranting on the pc requirements.

[–]UntoTheBreach95R7 6800H, RX 6700XT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Remedy game launches are not small and imo they make amazing games.

About the hate, the game is not out yet. Let's wait a bit to see if it's deserved.

Idk what people expected, full RT cuts in half the fps and puts the CPU under fire. Also the game is being made for the new consoles and the developer is known to push graphical fidelity to the top. Control is still being used as benchmark LoL.

I'll be honest, and I know this is heresy in the "PC Master Race" space, but I really just don't give a crap about store exclusives. The Epic Store is pretty decent now, I'm fine buying a game there if it's exclusive.

[–]Jarnisi9-9900K 5.1 / RTX 3090 OC / Maximus XI Formula / Predator X35 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to be super annoyed at them stealing exclusives with last minute deals, even after game had been up for preorder on Steam.

This time the game literally exists because of them, they paid the development and are the publisher. They can have their exclusivity "fair and square".

[–]LiquidmaximoPC Master Race 20 points21 points  (12 children)

You shouldn't care. The steam sheep (even though I prefer steam) is no different than apple sheep or whatever product sheep. I'll pick steam first every time, but I won't pass on a game I'm looking forward to (if I can run it).

[–]Temporal_Enigma 26 points27 points  (9 children)

If this was any other industry, people would be pissed that Steam has such a high market share.

We're lucky Valve is as consumer friendly as they are. They could do pretty much whatever they want considering the fanboys they have

[–]Dealric7800x3d 7900 xtx 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Thats the important bit.

Valve is customer friendly. Valve also doesnt throw any anticompetition action.

Its very rare example when moloch is customer friendly and underdog is through and through anticustomer.

Do you know any other market with that setting for comparison?

[–]e7RdkjQVzw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's bullshit. In what industry people are angry about the best service/product having the highest market share?

[–]NapsterKnowHow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't though. They are a major reason why the gaming market is full of lootboxes and microtransactions. They also look the other way when kids gamble cs skins because they indirectly make money off of it.

[–]blakesoner 7 points8 points  (5 children)

What is the reason why everybody is angry it’s on the Epic store? I see so many posts saying that it’s bad but none of them say why. Can’t even find anyone in the comments explaining it. Epic works fine for me.

[–]Gatlyng 19 points20 points  (3 children)

People don't like the fact that Epic is brute forcing their way in. They pay developers to launch their games exclusively on the their store.
Then they don't like the app itself; compared to Steam, it is kinda of a downgrade.
Then there's the supposed shady stuff that Epic has been doing over the years which upsets a lot of people.
And people like to have their games in one place.

I think those are the main complaints. There's even a subreddit dedicated to hating them. It's called FuckEpic.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I really just don't give a crap about store exclusives.

good for you. however it's the opposite for millions of consumers. we chose pc because we're supposed to have a choice between GOG, steam and others and what epic is doing, is hurting the platform itself because it prevents people from choosing where they can buy games.

The irony here, is by doing so, epic is building its own monopoly. isn't that ironic that they cry about the "steam monopoly" yet they're the first to try and remove consumer choice?

It is absolutely not a business practice that should have made it to the pc platform

[–]ChristopherRoberto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too like voting with my money for console-style store exclusivity. I also pre-order games such as Cities Skylines 2 and Kerbal Space Program 2.

[–]f0xsky 11 points12 points  (6 children)

[–][deleted] 66 points67 points  (28 children)

There is an allan wake 2? Jk jk

But yeah it could go two ways: it sells well on pc and epic doubles down with another game or it doesn’t sell at all.

I’m hoping it’s the later. So they stop with the bs deals and start improving EGS instead of

[–]Mr_Hbrown 27 points28 points  (11 children)

Improving store? Why when theycan use that money for more exclusives, the store can stay like that for another 4 years.

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (9 children)

Yeah and then what?

Publishers are already starting to go back to other platforms instead of taking the deals.

In 4 years there will be nothing for epic because the trust from both consumers and publishers will have dried up.

If they don’t improve the platform NOW, they won’t stand a chance at all in 4 years, in fact if they do nothing for 4 years, they may even shut down.

Tencent isn’t gonna sink money eternally on a platform that isn’t profitable

[–]Blacksad9999ASUS Strix LC 4090, 7800x3D, ASUS PG42UQ 11 points12 points  (5 children)

All they're really missing on the fundamentals is the nice controller support that Steam has. Everything else is pretty good.

I'm not a player who uses Steam as a social media site, so I don't really care about achievements, badges, cards, etc.

I just click on an icon and play a videogame.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I can’t live without a backup and restore option. As long as EGS doesn’t have one, i won’t bother with it.

At least with GOG, you can download an offline installer for your games

[–]Blacksad9999ASUS Strix LC 4090, 7800x3D, ASUS PG42UQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I've never personally used that feature myself. I actually didn't know it even existed until this very moment. lol

I tend to only keep one or two games on my drive and then delete them when I'm finished, and then move on to a new game.

[–]ede91R5 5600X | 6800XT | 32 GB 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Have you ever downloaded games that are not very very tiny on Epic and Steam? The difference is night and day in their CDN and in the quality of the download manager. Steam pegs my connection to the max and installs the game while downloading it. Epic downloads a few GB using 20-30% of my connection, than starts to write it to disk, then downloads a few more GB and repeat. After it downloaded all the data starts installation, and often staying for minutes on 100%.

The long term token handling on the launcher is a joke. It throws me out and even forgets the account name whatever I set to not to do that, even if I just restart my pc.

The entire launcher is frustrating, and there are a ton more feature missing, but I guess if you don't want to play with friends than much of it won't bother you. At least after like 4 years they managed to implement achievements, reviews, and a cart. It took them a while, I guess we can expect controller support around 2027.

[–]Mr_Hbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When that happens Tim Sweeney has no one to blame but himself, he is so focused on "competing" with Steam that he completly ignores the basics, have a proper platform that people would like to use, ignoring all other Tim stuff...

Is something that i never understood on Epics side, one good thing from PC is that there existed no exclusivity, and was rather disliked by PC gamers since there were more console exclusives over the years, and then Epic decides to do exlcusivity, its unpopular, not profitable, and yet keeps on doubling down...

Just wanna give a big “fuck you” to anyone wishing ill will on a cult franchise just so that a developer storefront is updated.

[–]AllNamesTakenOMG 10 points11 points  (5 children)

the game did not get an overhyped marketing campaign nor was there as much talk about it like Starfield, Baldur's gate 3 , Cyberpunk 2077 etc. The game will cater to the die hard fans, although some red flags like no physical copy, the titular character not being the sole protagonist and sharing screentime with a random new addition and the steep pc requirements might mean that the game will sell better on console. But with such a niche franchise and the market split between console and pc i am cautious about the success of the game. It will sell well...probably but nothing mindblowing

[–]NapsterKnowHow 10 points11 points  (3 children)

There's been some pretty good marketing from what I've seen. BG3 had no marketing and look at how that turned out.

[–]Santiagofamo018 2 points3 points  (6 children)

The most things I like from Epic exclusives is:

  • The game doesn't sell well because most People doesn't buy on Epic

  • Probably it's broken because it's a 2023 AAA game

  • One year later it's on Steam fixed and with a discount.

Remember guys, don't fall for the FOMO of a new release, 95% of every new game you would like to have are not as good as the game you bought 1 year ago you didn't opened

[–]DETHmetals 33 points34 points  (11 children)

Remember when games used to be fun instead of just tech demos

[–]HouseNVPL 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It still can be fun. We will see.

[–]ClubChaos 47 points48 points  (3 children)

Ironically Alan Wake 2 looks fun compared to a sea of online try-hard, read the guides before even playing the game bullshit where one move against the "meta" gets you verbally assaulted.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A big part of why I don't bother with online gaming. You cannot just jump into a game and mess around now, every game has to be super intense, grinding the ranks sorta thing.

[–]jxnebug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Eastern MMORPGs but you described exactly why it sucks playing them when they finally come out in English.

[–]mrawatersRTX 4080, i7 12700k 7 points8 points  (2 children)

You know this game isn't going to be fun?

[–]cum_fart_69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what is fun is that an old fart like me remembers the first alan wake being pretty much just an advertisement for quad core CPUs, and by the time it finally released, the quad cores didn't run it any better than the dual cores of similar clock speed

[–]Blue2501R5 3600 + 3060 Ti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remedy games have always been tech demos, going back to Max Payne

[–]Turnbob73 26 points27 points  (3 children)

This sub and EGS lol

I do not envy any of you, a life that fragile seems miserable.

[–]FizzyTacoShop 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And it's been years lmao, the real world just plays the video games without worrying about this shit.

[–]A1tzeR7 7700, RTX 4070 Super, 32GB DDR5-6000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll just get it on console if it runs well, my pc wouldn't run it well anyway looking at the recommended specs

[–]JustCallMeRandyPlz 14 points15 points  (7 children)

Complainers gonna complain about anything....

We've all seen the steam stats for the most used hardware and I think it's about time games came out that pushed the hardware needed forward....

I don't think optimization is the issue here....

I think it's the fact we've been dealing with bad graphics card prices for too long and the money spent isn't worth the performance we get.

Blame AMD/NVIDIA.

Ps

I'm not excusing badly made games that can't even run on the latest GPUs.

[–]HarderstylesD 7 points8 points  (2 children)

On consoles this is a new-gen exclusive game. Why are people expecting their 7+ year old GPUs to run this fine?

Lots of people seem to have their expectations stuck in 2013/14. Back then PC hardware had been ahead of PS3/X360 for years, and then the XBone/PS4 came out with GPUs that were pretty outdated on launch with roughly GTX 750ti equivalent power.

Devs are targeting the new consoles now, pushing the hardware with tons of new features, and the PS5/Xbox Series X are roughly equivalent perf to RTX 2070 Super.

[–]HugejormaRTX 3080 Ti | 5800X3D | 32GB DDR4 | X570S 22 points23 points  (21 children)

If the game is good and run on my hardware, I might buy it. Seems like it's 49,99 on Epic Store, so at least the release price is more than ok. Not sure why I should hate it, but here it goes: EPIC BAD. Never had any problems with Epic and the price is way cheaper than Stream releases.

I don't have any hurry to play the game, but the first one was actually good. Remedy hardly ever misses… Almost forgot, that this is also PS5 release. Any version is ok for me.

PS. Does this game come with DRM like Denuvo? That is the only thing I would avoid 100%. I rather take laxatives, take my clothes off, and run a marathon, than pay to get f¤ucked in the a$$ by Denuvo.

[–]WJMazepas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will run just fine on your PC

[–]pchadrow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to see some people with sane opinions on this thread. I think everyone just wants to hate this game because the gpu market is crazy more than its pushing latest hardware capabilites. Basically every game they've released has done this. Alan wake og was one of the first to push quad core processors, I don't remember the specifics of quantum break but it was also technically demanding, control pushed for 20 series cards because they strongly featured Ray tracing throughout, and now the push for 40 series because of their use of path tracing. They've consistently featured the latest tech for the ultimate experience in all of their games and its pretty much always paid off. If this were any other dev I could understand the hate, but Remedy has a fantastic track record.

Also, if you want an even cheaper price, you can pick up a key from humble bundle that'll save you I think an additional 5% without a sub.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (17 children)

according to system requirements you will get a solid 60 fps at 1080p with your 3080ti

[–]faverodefavero 19 points20 points  (16 children)

Using upscale, so it's actually 720p internally, upscaled to 1080p, not 1080p native. Which is ridiculous.

[–]HugejormaRTX 3080 Ti | 5800X3D | 32GB DDR4 | X570S 8 points9 points  (6 children)

I will take DLSS 1080p quality mode any day, so not a big deal. I would rather spend my resources on other visuals. The game will look more than good enough on my TV or projector.

[–]faverodefavero 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Remember to run it at 24FPS for that true cinematic experience : )

PS: it's just a joke, please don't take it seriously. Adding this because internet.

[–]HugejormaRTX 3080 Ti | 5800X3D | 32GB DDR4 | X570S 2 points3 points  (4 children)

The game will run 60 fps, doesn't matter what happens. If the PC port isn't good enough, I can always pick the PS5 version :) I'll wait for the game analysis anyway, so nothing to lose. If the game reviews are low, I could always play pick the BG3.

I'm way too old to care about new games and if something isn't perfect. People told me that Cyberpunk wouldn't play well on my gaming laptop, but it was freaking nice. Made me forgot the nasty back accident a week ago + the constant pain. Painkillers already gives me real-life blur debuff, and now everything looks good enough. Brain works at least 30 fps.

[–]xternal7tamius_han 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Yeah but with DLSS, quality mode can look better than native ... because native comes with TAA.

[–]faverodefavero 2 points3 points  (3 children)

If you're talking DLSS Quality targeting 1440p (running natively an internal resolution of 900~1000p), or better, yes. Anything bellow that: no.

[–]HarderstylesD 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Even with balanced/performance mode (very low internal resolutions) DLSS has been shown to still be better than native in many scenarios. Look at this video showing Control (3 years ago) with 540p internal (performance mode) looking better than 1080p native: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWIKzRhYZm4&t=644s

Better motion clarity and sub-pixel detail in this case.

[–]CarlWellsGrave 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hope for the sake of calling you guys reactionary cry babies, it runs fine on older systems.

[–]whateverworksforben 26 points27 points  (13 children)

When I saw the GPU requirements I thought …. all that for a dude with a flashlight and a jump scare game. Seriously?!?

Edit: I get the visuals are important as part of the PC master race. If it was an action rpg, sure thing go hard. But for a jumpscare game? It just seems like over kill for me.

I think using Unreal Engine coupled with a mid range card should be able to do the same as a stand alone 4090.

It’s good to push the envelope, i’m just not convinced Alan Wake 2, a sequel to a game that look years to get good sales numbers, is the right game to push the envelope.

[–]WJMazepas 35 points36 points  (11 children)

Look at a video of the game running at 4k and with Path Tracing. Is one of, if not the best looking game available

[–]BurtMacklin__FBIi7 8700k | Gigabyte 2080Ti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And looking at a video of the game running in 4K is precisely what I will do until I upgrade / performance patches happen / it's not on EGS lmao

[–]Arpeggiatewithme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s gonna be way more than that. Remember we’re also following up control as well.

This game is gonna get weird. I’m excited to see how they blend live action this time around.

[–]SBABakaMajorPayne 13 points14 points  (6 children)

I would have been one of the 12 ,.. but I think I can wait for price drop & other storefronts accessibility

[–]charlesbronZon 28 points29 points  (5 children)

Have fun waiting for the game to come to other storefronts... as Epic is the publisher for this one 😂

[–]Moskeeto93R5 5600X | RTX 3080ti | 32GB RAM | 1tb Steam Deck 28 points29 points  (4 children)

I'll have fun waiting with my thousands of games on Steam. I'm in no rush to play this game and it's obviously in no rush to have me buy it or play it until it comes to Steam. If they don't want my money, it's ok.🤷‍♂️

[–]charlesbronZon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If they don't want my money, it's ok.🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I feel the same way.

Never spent a penny on the Epic Store and this game will certainly not change that.

But I also can't see Epic changing their bone headed approach and releasing their games on Steam again any time soon.

[–]awsomedutchman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ps5 gamers:.....

[–]vedomedoRTX 4090 | 13700k | 32Gb DDR5 6400Mhz | AW3423DW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I do get the issue, I also feel like people need to acknowledge that some games just push tech forward. Someone has to, if not we’d all be playing assassins creed til the end of days, hell some people actually are doing that already.

You can buy games on Epic? Since when?

[–]Amazing-Dependent-28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or, you can actually look at the performance sheet for more than two seconds and realize that's it's perfectly fine or stop relying on reddit shitposting for your opinions

1/3 for me. Definitely not going to get it.

[–]bakedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then the developer is like, "why isn't our game selling?"

[–]tablepennywad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats a budget gpu doing up there.

[–]k3stea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the performance turns out to be bad i'll have an excuse to get mgs collection instead

[–]UmbreonFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait theres an Alan Wake 2?

literally 0 marketing

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fit all of these categories but I'm still not buying this on launch day.

[–]Metal_is_PerfectionPC Master Race 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats actually Me lol besides the Epic part

[–]Pr0blemHaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope someone cracks it. I'd rather play it on console but no physical release puts me off completely.

[–]AngelosOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - being on Epic means I’ll never play it, tbh. I liked the original well enough and I do have a 4090…but unless it miraculously comes to gamepass or Steam someday, I’ll just have to watch it via someone’s play through.

[–]RockeSolid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You forgot to add the bubble: "be part of the woke community". You get to play as your favorite diverse strong female protagonist of the special ethnicity we probably all can relate to, as gamers.

[–]stackenblochen23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could still, you know, play it on console

[–]drNovikov 13 points14 points  (24 children)

Epic? The anti gamer store that tried to infect PC gaming with exclusivity cancer? Eww.

[–]xForseen 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Ah yes. The horrors of PC exclusivity clicking a different icon. Really a huge barrier to entry.

[–]Boring-Top-7029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey they give free games that i never play, but i cant complain :)

I got the original Alan Wake for free on Epic Games a couple years ago. I played maybe 1 hour of it and never played it since. It seems like a good thriller/horror game, but I'm not into that.

[–]Lecteur_K7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember having a great time playing alan wake it's just that ibdon't have the money for overpriced gpu Also epic game launcher suck and is biggy and put me in a rage everytime i have to use it come on how can the first thing you go to play can suck that much

[–]Bullmoose39 3 points4 points  (4 children)

This is so accurate. When I saw the spec for playing, I just laughed. How do you wreck a PC launch? Coming up!

[–]Salmonman4 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Is Alan Wake 2 the new "Can it run Crysis"?

[–]ItsJoeverLads11400F Gtx 1650 Super 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean allegedly Crysis 4 is in development

[–]Boring-Top-7029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that title goes for cities skylines 2, but the year is not over yet, a new challenger might come :)

[–]TRUEequalsFALSEDesktop 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I don't even know what Alan Wake 1 is...

[–]TheHooligan95i5 6500 @ 4.2 Ghz | 16GB | GTX 960 4G 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's a 3rd person shooter from 2011 with a focus so big on world building that it's been unmatched ever since. It was supposed to be open world at first, then it became linear because the devs realized that open world videogames will lead to the story losing grip on the players.
But the game map is intact. Whenever you reach a beautiful vista, you can recognize all the places you've been to, all the places you've heard about, and that makes the videogame feel so alive. Add to that a fantastic plot (actually fantastic) about a writer finding torn pages written by himself that describe future events, and Alan Wake is imo one of the most unforgettable gaming experiences just for its uniqueness if not for anything else.
Don't play the remaster, the original game was a stunning pc port and it is quite difficult to run even today.

[–]MobileMaster43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is this "epic launcher" you speak of?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 2 of the 3, but epic game store is a hard no.

Already tapped out on storefronts, don't need another
