My landlord died around 3 years ago and Im living rent free

I (23F) moved in to a duplex with my mom in 2017 , the owner of the house had died but I guess her daughter inherited the property and charged us pretty cheap rent, no lease or contract we just paid cash. Fast forward to around 3 years ago, she died, she had no kids or anyone she could leave the house to, my mom said to stay here until the bank or anyone came, they would have to give us at least 30 days notice, well, Its been 3 yrs and nobody has come. I checked if the house taxes have been paid and they have, up until this yr, I still have time to pay them before they make a tax certificate but Idk if I should pay it, or who owns this. In the public records it still says the original owners name, so Im guessing it wasn’t inherited to the daughter? Im don’t know how any of this works and Im scared someone comes and asks for all of the yrs worth of rent. Because you’re supposed to save the money for when someone comes. What should I do?

Edit: I live in Miami, FL

Can my employer stop me using my treadmill when working from home?

I work for a healthcare service, I posted a picture on my social media page stating I had fitted a laptop stand to My treadmill at home so I can walk slowly whilst working sometimes in a bit to be healthier. That same day when I was in the office, I was pulled into HR and was told I am not allowed to use my work laptop at the treadmill. This was due to the nature of my work, apparently

[TX] Can you surrender a special needs (Downs Syndrome) infant?

Asking for someone who is too scared to ask.

The person in question is expecting a baby who, they recently found out, has Downs Syndrome.

Abortion is not an option because Texas. However, this person is not able to care for someone with special needs.

They want to surrender the baby to a fire station. We want to know if this is feasible. Will authorities hunt down the person in question to return the baby? Can you safely surrender a Downs baby?

My mom was in a minor MVA and is being sued for $100,001 and she has no money or assesses.

My mom was in a minor motor vehicle accident back in 2022. No ambulance was called on scene and my mom was cited for a wrongful U-turn. (She was going 12 mph into a U-turn after the oncoming traffic has just turned green). The citation was overturned in court, I believe. On scene “the victim” was standing, walking, speaking with officers. The ticket was forgotten about.

This week my mom got subpoenaed for court by this woman and paperwork states she’s being sued for everything, from auto negligence to permanent disability & loss of wages.

My mom is 65 with no assets or money. She is on Medicare/medicaid disability and does not own her home nor her car. She has less than $900 in her bank account at all times.

What can happen to her? This is stressing me out so much.

My son (12) was on a FaceTime call with two friends (at night/at home) and they dared each other to share their penises to compare sizes. One kid took a screen recording of the call, and sent it around to people at the school. My son was called into the office and held there for 4 hours before he was able to sneak a text to me saying he was there and school police were coming. I went up there immediately and asked why in such a sensitive issue was I not contacted immediately and instead my son was being interrogated. I took him home. An AP calls me back to say he’s getting a consequence for “flashing.” I said I’d be right back up there because…what? I sat with all three administrators so no stories would be twisted or confused. Over the phone she tried to say he “admitted to the flashing.” While he was there alone, they took turns questioning him, bribed him to confess to who took and sent the photo, and claim he admitted to flashing. The flashing in question was the dare on the phone call. Their plan was to not contact me about any of it until their little investigation was wrapped up, school police talked to my son without a parent there, and the suspension paperwork complete. I fought it and told them the “flashing” was outside of school and he gave no consent to the recording or had any knowledge it even happened. He did not send it around school and instead is the victim of his private body parts being shared across the school. Are these practices allowed? What can I do here?

I accidentally hit a girl who was jaywalking and drunk

I accidentally hit a girl around 11pm on a street that wasn't so lit up. I was driving and the light was green and there was a girl jaywalking in the middle of the road, I didn't see her til it was too late. The reflection of her hair from a car that was driving from the other side. I braked but it was too late when I saw her get hot on my passengers side. I immediately got out of my car and some kids that were skating in a parking garage came over and I believe they were a group of her friends. I told them to not touch her and one of the kids called 911. I saw the girl breathing but I saw no blood. There was a cop that was miraculously passing by when this happened. Cops asked one of the kids what happened and said they witnessed the accident and cop asked if she has been drinking and he said yeah she's been drinking. All around the street were cans of twisted tea around her and she was also holding one in her hand. Cops were collecting statements and they told me sit on the sidewalk and later a cop came up to me and said not too worry, a lot of the witnesses said that you weren't driving recklessly. Ambulance came and picked her up and she was moving her hands around touching her head. They had me wait there til they had the ok from the hospital that she's not a life threatening state. Told me to go home and I asked what's next? They said just to call my insurance and say I was involved in any accident. I was too scared to asked if Im being charged, do I have to go to court? Am I going to jail? What's going to happen? I didn't know what to do I was in complete shock. Does anyone know what I should do next? Is it my fault? What do I do?

Scaffolders refusing to take scaffolding down after the job is complete

As the title says really. The job completed 3 weeks ago, the scaffolders were paid in full in advance and are refusing to take it down which is delaying other works to my property. I've still been charged by my trades for lost days work as they can't access the areas they need to.

I've spoken to the scaffolders on the phone and each time they promised to remove it but never show up. It's been up for 6 weeks in total now.

I understand they are supposed to safety check it weekly and I know this hasn't been happening.

What are my options to force the issue? I can't have it around much longer!

Forgot to scan an item at grocery self-checkout and got charged with theft

Happened to my 65 year old father. It was a $12 bottle of vitamins on a $100 grocery bill. He thought it scanned at the self-checkout but must’ve not picked up. Security stopped him in the parking lot, cops were called, theft charges were laid.

He will call a lawyer but I’m curious if there’s anything else to be done and what to expect. Is it possible that this gets tossed out before the court date? What are the chances he is actually convicted? TIA

My ex served me with a scare tactic letter to sign consent to let her travel with kids since I refused

My ex just went internationally in December 2023- to January. 2024 Which I had consented. But now she wants to go again with kids on May 6. I refused. She served me today..she hired a lawyer. The letter says" sign the notary signature or else I will do an enforcement to make you sign and you will have to pay $1500 attorney fees. Within 48 hours you have to do this."

Has anyone been through this before? Does this basically mean I have no choice but to give her consent to travel with children? What will happen if I still refuse to consent even when she holds me contempt?

Any answers appreciative

Marriage unconsummated for more than a year. What are my options?

I have been married for 1.2 years now and it has been an unfulfilling and unpleasant marriage since day one. He is never emotionally available. He is unbothered about my well being and safety. He avoided kissing me just after marriage. During honeymoon, we had no physical intimacy. I waited for things to slowly change but it never happened. It would never go beyond hugging and kissing. He would avoid kissing me on my lips. He tells me he is straight and is interested in woman but I think he is asexual. We have been sleeping in the same bed for last one year and we haven’t even taken off our clothes forget consummation. Also I have fallen out of love with him experiencing his neglectful, uncaring and unloving behaviour towards me. I don’t see a future ahead and I have waited long enough. It seems I cannot get an annulment now? What are my options?

Neighbor cutting down huge 40 year old trees for no reason

My neighbor (very elderly with dementia) has started cutting down all the mature trees along our fence line. He says it’s because he’s worried they will fall over and kill someone. There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with the trees. He’s cut down about 10 so far and wants to keep going.

These were huge beautiful trees (not sure of the species) and now we just have a line of stumps along his side of the fence.

I’m assuming I have no recourse?

Private business selling my charity's free tours to their customers

Hi all. I work for a small arts charity in England who offer free group tours of our arts exhibitions to anybody who signs up. We neither take nor make any money from these tours and keep them free as a nice way to keep arts in my city as financially accessible as possible. Recently, a private business based elsewhere in the country has been booking up our group tour slots and charging people a subscription fee to secure one. We see this as super unethical and upsetting as we had not heard of this business until people started turning up to receive one. Each tour costs our charity money in staffing and operational costs, and we don't find it fair that a company can force a profit using our resources and at our expense.

We have spoken to them multiple times to ask them to stop involving us in their subscription packages and they have lied about various aspects of their operation. They agreed to stop doing this, but more people keep showing up.

Even worse is that they are selling people a 'behind the scenes tour' of our charity, which is not a service we have ever offered.

Do we have any legal options that we can take to stop this happening?

Here is the link to the previous post I made, as if now I have received a call from SHO of Jhajjar, Haryana (the nearest police station to my village) and I was informed that a complained has been raised against me in Kurla West Police station and that I have to come to the police station to meet him (SHO).

I informed it to my elders and it was decided that I'll be accompanied by my elders to the police station and my cousins will leave for Session Court Of Jhajjar to get a lawyer. But due to 4th Saturday we weren't able to get a lawyer and when I went to meet the SHO, I was shown the cctv footage of my brawl with both the guys, and the SHO showed it to me and was continuously asking " Yoo tu hi hai na? Inn balakan ne peet rha sae" which means "you are one no, who is beating these two brats". I agreed and said yes, and explained him the full story, the SHO understood my stance and explained me that the Girl who's camera I broked and both the Boys whom I have beaten have filed an complaint against me and one of the Boy's parent is a Law School Professor and he is pressuring for an FIR, although the police officials of Kurla didn't filed one and assured him that they will find me.

Now the SHO transferred my file to another inspector stating that he will take care of my scenario, the Inspector then proceeded to call the Kurla Police station and got me on call with the Boy's father. The inspector asked me to talk in respectful manner, and i obliged him and talked to the father. He was quite angry and was for no reason quoting some IPC sections against me, I tried explaining him my side but it was for no use. The inspector intervened and said " Sir this is not a matter to be taken to court and if this goes to court, your son won't be spared either". The father still was stubborn to file an FIR against me.

The Kurla Police was also trying to sweep this incident and was trying to make a compromise, Later on the inspector asked me sign on a blank paper I refused then he asked me to write a formal letter stating I am sorry for my actions and won't repeat this again and sign it, I refused to do that as well.

Right now I have came back home, my cousins have talked to one lawyer they found, but we have decided to drop him as he was more like a con lawyer.

The name of the complaintant are :- Bharti
:- Ajinkya (Boy) :- Aadarsh (Father) :- Raj (Boy2)

And I have also find out they post it on Facebook, if anyone of you are able to find their page do let me know.

Right now I am back to my home, my elders have talked to the SHO and he'll try to sweep this matter under the rug.

We have extracted the mobile number of the father and we'll try talking to them during evening.

Any Lawyers? Up here on the sub, who can guide me a bit.

Edit:- I have removed their surnames, and I didn't posted their full names with the intention to doxx them, rather I had the intention that if anyone who actively uses FB can help me find their page. Thats it.
