Unpopular opinion, perhaps, but Meet The Parents (really the entire “Meet The” franchise) was unbearable for me. The whole schtick of awkward moments and things constantly going wrong for our sad-sack protagonist…hard pass. From the family treating Greg like absolute garbage, to the infamous water volleyball scene, to the lost cat. It’s 2 hours of cinematic torture, even with DeNiro.

Favorite horror comedy movie?

One of my all-time favorite horror comedies has to be "Shaun of the Dead" (2004). It’s the perfect mix of laughs and zombie chaos. The humor is spot-on, with all these ridiculous situations and witty dialogue, but it still brings the zombie action with some gnarly scenes. How about your favorite one?

Rewatchable Comedies – Which comedy movies are just perfect?

Some comedies may have a strong first half, but the second half falls short. Others may have scenes that feel too drawn out, prompting you to skip them. There are also comedies that lose their charm after a couple of viewings.

However, there are those rare comedies that you can watch repeatedly without getting tired of them. I'd love to hear which ones fall into that category for you. Personally, Groundhog Day is one of those films for me. It never loses its appeal, maintains a great pace, and I never feel the urge to skip any scenes. (Given that the movie is now a bit older, it holds an added nostalgic appeal for me, as I love and miss the early 90s.)

Help me find a "safe" comedy movie for a movie night with my wife's friend (who has zero ability to even enjoy or process a basic plotline of a movie)

My wife suggested a friend of hers come over for a movie night with her husband. We just put together a home theater in our home, and she is excited to show it off. The thing is her friend does not "get" movies. Her understanding of movies is completely surface level. We've done a few movie nights as a group, but so far, every choice that the group has agreed upon, she hasn't "gotten."

The first movie night we did together, we watched Game Night. She didn't get it. The twists were too much for her. The way the movie was filmed, she thought the people were part of a board game. I'm not kidding. Her brain failed to understand or follow the very minute, detailed intricacies of the movie's plot. Kyle Chandler's acting was just too much for this poor woman.

The second movie night we all did together, we decided to pick a movie that we consider a "turn your brain off and enjoy" type of movie: Hot Rod. She was even more clueless about that one. In retrospect, it's definitely a movie you either "get" or don't "get." When Andy Samberg started dancing in the forest, followed by falling down a hill for 10 minutes, she didn't know why he wasn't dying. For the rest of the movie, she thought he was dead & that the rest of the movie was just the delirious visions of an oxygen starved brain shutting down over only mere minutes.

The third time we hosted a movie night, I played it completely safe: 50 First Dates. It's one of those movies that I don't think really anyone dislikes. It's also not a movie that really anyone loves. But I'm just trying to get something out of her. Anything. She was a bit confused about how the memory reset worked. (Despite the concept literally being smashed over the viewers heads over and over and over.)

At this point I am lost. I really don't know where else to go. I know that I should just give it a rest & find something everyone will like, but at this point, I am determined to find something that I think she would like. I've tried asking her over and over "what movie do you want to watch?" Each time, she can't really make up her mind. Her husband says that she really doesn't watch movies. She mainly just watches him play video games or TikToks. He has zero issues here - though he is amused by my constant determination to find something that she would enjoy.

It's a fool's errand, but unfortunately, I'm just dumb enough to take the bait on this. Any suggestions?

Any comedy movies from the 2020s that would be considered a "modern classic"?

Any comedy movies from the 2020s that would be considered a "modern classic"?

I was just looking for a new comedy movie to watch recently and it made me realize I have seen a decent amount of good comedy movies that were released in the 2020s, but none that I will remember in 10 years time.

Is there anything released in the past 4 years that could be considered a classic and remembered for years to come? If there is, I sure as he'll haven't seen it.

Just curious, since I've been working on a favorite horror movies list with a good mixture of movies that are Horror and Horror/Comedy. The list is not done but will post it when it's finished.

I just tried to rewatch the Fugitive but couldn't help but burst out laughing at some scenes that reminded me of wrongfully accused. My favourite is the escape on a railway scene lol.I know it's not the Fugitive movie's fault but it is what what it is. It's really hard to take the Fugitive serious now anyone ever experience this , which movies was it for you? I'd love to hear your thoughts 🤔

Need belly laugh level funny Comedy movie suggestions

My therapist wants me to watch a funny movie and really laugh but I'm having trouble thinking of anything in particular.

Just a little about me if it helps. I'm almost 40, male, American. Stay away from topics of illness, death, anti-trans (Ace Ventura comes to mind).

*EDIT*
Thank you guys so much, I never expected so many comments/suggestions! I have enough to watch at least one a week for a very long time.

The trans thing is because I have trans family/friends so the "joke" of "haha its a man in a dress" or "isn't it so gross that they're trans" just aren't funny and take me out of it. The former can be fine, like Mrs Doubtfire wouldn't bother me, but the latter would like Ace Ventura when everyone start gagging or throwing up.
