Me: these seem cherry picked
Me, 5 seconds later: wait, this is amazing
Doesn’t take away that it’s still cherry picked 😂. If someone wanted to waste a bunch of time they could go cherry pick all of Rutschman’s errors, make a video of it and then proclaim he’s the worst catcher in baseball. With that said though, Rutschman does have the stats to prove otherwise.
I commend whoever made the video though, the attention to detail is impressive.
All impressive, but the one from Perez at 99 is crazy.
Looks like he's sitting on the outside corner, and for him to snatch 99 up and in, crazy.
I think we could have called him up the year he was drafted and he'd be like a 3-4 war player on defense alone tbh. He's the best defensive catcher I've seen in a while. Also "can hit".
Not saying it's right or wrong but the title to this post is provocative, to say the least
I really didn’t intend that to be the case lol. Sorry Phillies fans. And maybe Dodgers and Blue Jays fans as well
Easily one of the most exciting prospects in the last few years.
Shame he’s in the Yanks division but at the same time, not really because I’ll get to see him in person a lot.
I think Adley is the 2nd best catcher in baseball at this point. I need to see another year to see if he's at or above JT's level. Maybe he's the best defensive catcher, but I don't think he's the overall best yet.
Jose Ramón Trevino would like a word on the “best defensive catcher” front.
Rutschman is #1 in blocking, #14 in framing.
Trevino is #2 in blocking, #1 in framing.
Adley’s wRC+ last year was better than any season JT has ever had. Not to dunk on him because he’s great too but IMO Adley is on another level
tbf to Realmuto though he’s like the GOAT catcher baserunner
Agreed.
With most things, I need 2 years to really start believing in a player. Also the fact JT was more valuable than Adley too, so, you know.
I think Adley showed last season that his level of talent is on par with prime Buster Posey. Which is crazy to say for a rookie. He was just as good as Realmuto, who had a career year.
I think a lot of people (obviously not OP) don't realize how hard it is to receive the ball when the pitcher misses his spot but isn't in the dirt. That 99 at shoulder/head height from Perez is crazy impressive.
