Schiff defended his position on the House floor Wednesday. The censure resolution, he said, “would hold that when you give internal campaign polling data to a Russian intelligence operative, while Russian intelligence is helping your campaign — as Trump’s campaign chairman did — that you must not call that collusion, though that is its proper name.”

[–]Atlfalcons284 412 points413 points  (31 children)

It's so fucking funny that GOP voters walked away from that investigation thinking it was a hoax.

Obviously we can't charge Trump without direct proof of him knowing and/or instructing Manafort and co to do so but it's literally undeniable that his campaign itself was colluding whether or not Trump knew.

[–]2_Spicy_2_ImpeachMichigan 211 points212 points  (15 children)

It boggles my mind how they can say it with a straight face. I have family that says that. I ask them about the polling data, the Trump Tower meeting, and Dipshit Eric saying they don’t need US banks because they can go to Russia.

They either say it’s no big deal or Hillary and Biden have done worse. I feel like a crazy person talking to them because they’re so out there.

[–][deleted] 91 points92 points  (8 children)

I was tangling with some of them on a different thread. No matter how many sources I produced, they have nothing but conspiracy theories and GOP talking points. Complete denial.

[–]1JoMac1 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Most of the talking points, just like the policies, are fire-and-forget. It doesn't matter how many times facts should be destroying their feelings, there's always another goalpost. It's beyond tiresome to have to recite almost the entire history of the United States at this point, and it's absolutely infuriating that tomorrow the exact same trickle down laptop story about antifa CRT militants in the suburbs taking jobs will be making the rounds again.

[–]BoiseXWing 40 points41 points  (3 children)

You might as well have been talking to an addict about needing rehab…

[–]SquidmanMalPennsylvania 33 points34 points  (2 children)

Hey, most addicts know they have a problem, it's finding the will to do it, and often the resources that is the roadblock.

Conservatives won't even get to the 'admit you have one' part.

[–]s0c1a7w0rk3r I voted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much this. Conservatives are stuck in the precontemplation stage of the transtheoretical model.

[–]Non_Filter_Camel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don't give up on your parents.

[–]CorruptedIntellect 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Mueller report basically says: "Hey, it sure looks like Trump was colluding with Russia, but he obstructed this investigation so much, it was impossible to know for sure. Here are the 12 times he blatantly obstructed the investigation."

Trump & Republicans: "TOTALLY EXONERATED."

[–]Nabrok_Necropants 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because they didn't read it and then Barr gaslighted them.

[–]broadmeadowbk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They can’t be changed. They need to be silenced and rendered irrelevant.

[–]Banana-RepublicansCalifornia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard an interesting perspective the other day. Some people really struggle with the idea of privilege and institutional bigotry to the point that they have to enter a space of cognitive dissonance. I’m probably explaining this poorly but felt like an “aha moment” at the time.

[–]Ok-Research7136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss.

[–]Joeuxmardigras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaslighting at its finest

[–]The_Rock_Said 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Mate, they convinced themselves the entire investigation was a hoax then minute it was announced. They simply believe what they want to believe and everything else is wrong

[–]Prometheus_303 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Obviously we can't charge Trump without direct proof

Even with rock solid proof that shows without a shadow of a doubt Trump knowingly actively committed crimes we still can't charge him, because "he was the President & we have to afford him the respect that position carries" or some BS to that effect...

But when it comes to Biden, it doesn't matter he is the current President.... He has to be thrown in jail because there is a rumor he might have broken the law....

The Biden family got millions from a foreign country... Doesn't that sound shady? LOCK HIM UP

The Trump family got millions from a foreign country... He must be a great business man!

[–]Haunting-Ad788 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Conservatives have completely checked out of reality.

[–]Non_Filter_Camel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Schiff defended his position on the House floor Wednesday. The censure resolution, he said, “would hold that when you give internal campaign polling data to a Russian intelligence operative, while Russian intelligence is helping your campaign — as Trump’s campaign chairman did — that you must not call that collusion, though that is its proper name.”

As an outsider who isn't politically adept....Schiff is telling the truth.

[–]SnooMarzipans436 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Did anyone in his campaign get in any actual trouble over it? If so I never heard about it.

[–]Atlfalcons284 16 points17 points  (5 children)

Manafort went to jail from 2018-2020 (then house arrest because COVID). He was supposed to be in jail until 2024 but Trump gave him a full pardon on his way out

[–]SnooMarzipans436 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Wow... fuck Trump.

Why was manafort going to prison not front page news for weeks!?

[–]mallio 11 points12 points  (1 child)

It was, there was just so much terrible stuff to report it gets lost.

Once Biden was president I honestly started to wonder what I used to care about before Trump was president and the news became an hourly dose of crazy.

[–]Sebbun1 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Didn’t stone also get time?

[–]lovecommand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And a pardon

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He can and should have been charged with obstruction of justice

[–]acrossthegrain 1146 points1147 points  (6 children)

Obligatory "Your boos mean nothing; I've seen what makes you cheer."

[–]Quebec00Chaos 156 points157 points  (1 child)

One of the greatest quote

[–]Working_Ad8080 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Excellent!!!

[–]HaydaddictAmerica 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More like Adam Spliff.

[–]L00pbackNorth Carolina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great quote. Love that show.

[–][deleted] 727 points728 points  (23 children)

“Roosevelt said you can judge a person by the enemies they make,” Schiff said in an interview with The Times on Wednesday before the vote. “By that standard, I’m doing pretty damn well.”

I'd be happy if he became my next senator.

[–]Mike_HunchoOklahoma 168 points169 points  (19 children)

He does great work in the house but he would he extremely effective in the senate

[–]Uri266America 170 points171 points  (18 children)

I just hate that Adam Schiff and Katie Porter are vying for the same senate seat. Both are excellent choices

[–]changhaobyu 97 points98 points  (12 children)

I’d take Porter any day, Schiff will say all the right things but if you check his donor list and voting record he’s very pro corporations.

[–]GeneralTapiocaColorado 46 points47 points  (0 children)

In fairness, his district has Disney Studios and Warner’s. It’s corporate central. For ages it was a Republican safe seat, but that changed when then-Congressman Rogan chaired the Clinton Impeachment, and spent all his time running his partisan mouth, instead of doing his job. Angry voters threw him out, and Schiff stepped in.

Schiff’s a good guy, but nobody wins there if they’re not extremely business friendly.

[–]Uri266America 116 points117 points  (2 children)

True. Porter and her whiteboard is legendary status

[–]Working_Ad8080 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That was the best!

[–]Angery-Asian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Porter has a very toxic history of treatment of her staff

[–]Admirable_Matter_523 33 points34 points  (1 child)

Yep, I'm not anti-Pelosi, but Schiff is her chosen candidate, so you can imagine he will be more of the status quo. Katie Porter will fight to make real changes. She may not always be successful doing that in the Senate, but we need more progressive politicians in order to move the needle from where we're at now.

[–]count023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take either over senator ol' yellah at the moment

[–]TheCityGirlCalifornia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I adore Katie Porter but she’s uniquely electable as a Democrat in a redder CA district, and I’d hate to lose that seat to a Republican…

[–]Important_Outcome_67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love them both.

I want her and her whiteboard to stay in the House for now.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are sharp politicians in the democratic party for sure, but there's also a perpetuation of what is inherently wrong with our system of government. Schiff does not help with the latter.

[–]B0b_a_feetAmerica 7 points8 points  (1 child)

She should stay in the House until the Dems can find and develop a solid candidate. That district will flip if she leaves.

[–]TheCityGirlCalifornia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%, and said the same thing elsewhere in this thread. If it weren’t for that I’d vote for her, but we need to be strategic.

[–]Working_Ad8080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I really want both of them

[–]Oleg101 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Barbara Lee seems like a good candidate too. Would be a tough primary vote for me if I lived in California.

[–]amkosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like him slightly better than Porter. Porter seems more showish than able to get shit done. Of course we have Padilla for that, but I would rather my senator have more substance. I'd also rather have more of a pragmatic person, but those seem to rare af in politics these days...

[–]eugene20 198 points199 points  (1 child)

The speech Adam Schiff got to give because of it was great. If it was possible for the Republican members to be ashamed they would have stopped the proceedings after that.

A far cry from a word salad mix of different excuses, baseless retaliatory accusations and personal insults.

[–]CAM6913 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting a link. You are absolutely correct if the republicans should have stopped the proceedings after his speech but they have no morals, no shame, no sense of duty to America the constitution or the oath they took

[–]OkEnvironment3961 160 points161 points  (7 children)

So basically, it's like getting banned from r/Conservative.

[–]gladfelter 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I like you.

[–]the_simurghKentucky 25 points26 points  (5 children)

i never even went in there and got banned

[–]OkEnvironment3961 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Just say literally anything they don't like. I said the trump docs case is worse than Hilarys stuff because there are unrecovered national security documents out there now. They didn't like that.

[–]S_Belmont 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sunlight burns vampires. What choice did you leave them?

[–]x_Paramimic 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I got banned during Covid for daring to share that the virus is very real and actually killing people. I guess my actual personal experience as an RN during that time didn’t fit their narrative. I think my comment lasted 3 minutes.

[–]quadmastaGeorgia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got banned for quoting Trump

[–]spiked_macaroonMassachusetts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did too

[–]RamonaQ-JunieB 280 points281 points  (20 children)

The Republicans have turned into a political freak show and it is scarier than anything anyone could have imagined. More dangerous and damaging, too.

[–]frumiouscumberbatch 99 points100 points  (0 children)

No, let's be accurate. They have turned into full-blown fascists, and it's exactly as scary as those of us who know what fascism does to our communities always knew it would be.

[–]Sweatier_Scrotums 69 points70 points  (14 children)

The more they worry about white Christians being "replaced" by people of color and non-Christians, the more completely they will embrace violence and fascism.

[–]boots311 16 points17 points  (2 children)

And yet my dad will vote for which ever one makes the ballot. His wife, my stepmom, is also on SNAP & unemployment. He just told me the other day, I've never been able to qualify for these programs but I'm gonna take advantage as long as I can! I didn't reply, it causes way way more problems & issues than it's worth. But in my head I'm thinking, you're the people you're supposed to hate, what happened to your boot straps dad

[–]njsteinNew Jersey 12 points13 points  (1 child)

"like a welfare queen dad?" also if she's his wife how is she on SNAP if he doesn't qualify for it? sounds like they're defrauding benefits. SNAP is based on household income and married people are usually considered the same household.

Maybe send a whisper to the authorities and watch as they find out that defrauding government services is a crime.

[–]boots311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He owns his own hardwood flooring business like i do. We do not work together for a million reasons. But I'm sure his lack of filing for taxes has something to do with it

[–]Raccoon_Expert_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows an animals most dangerous when it’s backed into a corner and threatened.

Republicans are in the death kneel but they won’t go out without a fight.

I think before this is over we will see them lose all houses in 2024, their fans will ramp up violence against ordinary citizens. It will be a spectacle.

[–]Toadfinger 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Republicans get more desperate by the day.

[–]braize6 36 points37 points  (2 children)

It's funny how Republicans think this is some kind of win. It's really just the opposite.

All this does, is prove that Republicans are all-in with their dear daddy Trump. And that they would rather just play games and waste everyone's time, instead of actually trying to do some good for the country. It just proves even more that the GOP are nothing but pissy babies, and it's absolutely hilarious watching them whine.

[–]Cepheus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like they think the overturning privacy rights by getting rid of Roe. I believe it called a Pyrrhic victory. There will be comeuppance and a lot of their fascist shit will be corrected if everyone but insane get out and vote these lunatics out for good.

[–]Sydthebarrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It proves it to us following but unfortunately upholds the bullshit on the other side as valid. Because that’s how they will view it.

[–]Alternative-Flan2869 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is such an embarrassing clown car that mccarthy is still so happy to drive off a cliff.

[–]deviousmajik 40 points41 points  (2 children)

I've always liked and respected Adam Schiff. His speech the other day was the first time I thought of him as possibly a Presidential contender. I don't know yet if he'd be my first choice in a primary in 28, but I would have zero problems voting for him in the general. Lots of integrity.

[–]ProximusSeraphim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ever see his speech where he says "SILENT" ?

[–]TigerMcPherson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally

[–]Melodic-Translator45 19 points20 points  (0 children)

His response speech was an absolute banger too

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, as the saying goes: There are people in this world that if they did like me, I'd have to think a little less of myself.

[–]Ok-Research7136 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The GOP will never be an option for honorable people again.

[–]SurroundTiny 35 points36 points  (2 children)

I'm pretty sure it helped his fundraising for the Senate

[–]specqq 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I wondered if he needed to report the censure as an in-kind donation by the House Republicans.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (1 child)

“You were mean to our guy. Now we’re going to be mean to you.”

[–]SpottedSnuffleupagus 31 points32 points  (2 children)

I live in Rep Schiff’s district, I love him, and think he should run for Governor in 2026. Katie Porter for Senate 2024!

[–]GCU_ZeroCredibility 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also in his district! Gotta say if every Senate race were like Schiff-vs-Porter the country would be in much better shape.

[–]Cepheus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be nice.

[–]PostmasterClavin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All Republicans did was give him a bunch of free advertising. If I was porter or lee, I'd be super annoyed.

[–]70msCalifornia 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I'm in his district, and I'm proud af of him.

[–]aslan_is_on_the_move[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is going to be an awesome Senator

[–]sugar_addict002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is a badge of honor. It is the republicans who have been disgraced.

[–]LordDimwitFlathead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Republican Party, but especially the House Republican caucus, is a complete shit show.

[–]WittsandGrit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

"I guess I'll just go over to the Senate"

[–]Pretend-Excuse-8368 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’ll be calling him Senator soon enough.

[–]bigdaddyteacher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They just guaranteed his senate seat. Well played chucklefucks.

[–]ENOTSOCK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Republicans are just embarrassing to the country.

Imagine knowing these people in a social context. It must be hard not laughing at them behind their backs.

[–]nielsondc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your enemies say more about your character than anything else. When a bunch of fascists and traitors criticize you, you know for sure you are on the side of the angels.

[–]njsteinNew Jersey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Schiff has now faced more consequences than any single one of the false election certification coup plotters. This is such a travesty of a lack of justice. We need to take to the streets to demand justice against these fucking traitors before they destroy every last bit of democracy as they keep their minions focused on hating queer people.

[–]DemoEvolved 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could I at least say though, if someone is happy about being censured, then censure does not work correctly

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

[–]Prometheus_303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to the text of the resolution, he is being censured "for conduct unbecoming"... Apparently, in part, for lying to the American people regarding potential collusion with Russia & the Trump campaign...

I'm really interested to see what excuse my Republican Congressman will give to justify why he voted in favor of this particular Resolution, but apparently refuses to support a similar Resolution entered during the last Congressional session against one Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Just to name a few examples of IMHO "conduct unbecoming", she, like Schiff, lied to the American people - telling us that Trump won the 2020 election. She aided in the planning and actively recruited participation for Trump's failed coup attempt. And she's knowingly publically divulged classified information. She supports an unconstitutional push to make the US a "Christian Nation"... The list goes on...

In particular, in regards to the fact that on several occasions, my Congressman has indicated he opposes hypocritical politicians. He told me, for example, he thinks Trump should continue ad infinitum to claim he really won the election because Hillary told Biden to never concede if he lost, so it wouldn't be right to expect Trump to ever admit he lost.

So why does he feel the need to sanction Schiff but not Greene?

[–]ooouroborosNew York 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Criminality is a key element of the modern republican platform, of course they censure an honorable person.

[–]NotTheRightHDMIPort 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I cant think of anything that would boost his chances of winning the Senate seat in California.

Schiff is a mixed bag for me. Regardless, he would be good in the Senate.

I love Katie Porter more, but she doesn't get as much media attention as Schiff does.

My point is that an official rebuke by the GOP for investigating Donald Trump is just a dream in a Democratic primary. Democratic voters will love that shit.

[–]HellaTroiCalifornia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's hope that we get to elect the next senator to replace Diane F. If not, Newsome is determined to put Karen Bass in that seat. She's the mayor of Los Angeles. I prefer someone like Katie. But if we don't get her I could settle for Adam.

[–]Leege13 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I think this is final proof that censuring doesn’t work. The Founding Fathers just thought everyone was going to be good boys and girls, but it doesn’t work like that anymore.

[–]Either_Operation7586 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! We need to get off this antiquated honor system! It only works if BOTH parties and honor unfortunately.

[–]Necessary_Row_4889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was called a “poopyhead” in an official capacity. There was a scroll with calligraphy and everything

[–]Deck_of_Cards_04California 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All this does is raise his profile for the Senate race.

The GOP is just helping him win lmao

[–]We_are_all_monkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The republicans in the House just elected the next Senator from California.

[–]Temptingfrodo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“You honour me with your indemnity”

[–]Lost_Minds_Think 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Can we all agree that these censures are a complete waste of everyone’s time?

[–]Either_Operation7586 1 point2 points  (2 children)

No I can only agree that this and the Memphis 3 were because they had no merit.. now the lying gopers? Oh those are def merited!

[–]CalamitousGoddess 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Zephyr was Montana, right?

[–]Either_Operation7586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes! I forgot about her! There probably are a few more I forgot tbh.

[–]GlocalBridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably will help him get elected to the Senate.

[–]25electrons 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m sending donations to fund any politician censured, insulted, harassed, or removed from office by the republicans. My father and uncles fought fascism in the Army and Navy. I fight it with my checkbook.

[–]25electrons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I don’t really use a checkbook. There’s a great website ‘acting’ to collect donations for ‘blue’ candidates. It would be really great if Reddit would let me post a link but Reddit is not quite right in the head these days.

[–]keeper_of_the_cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schiff is a hell of an orator, and also an author. His book Midnight in Washington: How We Almost Lost Our Democracy and Still Could is an excellent read. He narrates the audio book and just listening to him is a pleasure. I think he would make a great president.

[–]Temptingfrodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“You honour me with your indemnity”

[–]newfmatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what happens when Newsom puts him in Feinstein's seat?

[–]platinum_toilet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

House Republicans censured Adam Schiff. He couldn’t be happier

Yes. After 4 years of investigating Trump for being a Russian agent, the result was that Schiff was censured.

[–]OkMath420 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

shit link

[–]mshaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be: thanks for your invaluable contribution in kind to my campaign to become California s next senator

[–]ramencents -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s happy not happy. He’s putting a happy face on it but no one wants to be censured. The bright spot is that it keeps the conversation going on how ridiculous the gop is
