Skyblivion: Oblivion completely remade. RELEASE DATE INSIDE! HELP WANTED!

Skyblivion is a fan remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion developed in Bethesda Game Studios' Creation Engine, as a total conversion mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim!

RELEASING some time in 2025, but that could be sooner if there was an influx of good, experienced help. Which leads me to my last point...

SKYBLIVION STILL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS! If you're experienced in Nav Mesh editing or can show proof of any video game design experience, head to Skyblivion.com

Check out https://www.youtube.com/@Rebelzize for sneak peaks inside the game. It's beautiful, guys. It really is!

Thank you to all that've helped and continue to help.

Why I want an Oblivion remake rather than Skyblivion

Greetings!

A few weeks ago I posted here asking if it was real that an Oblivion remake was in production, or at least, planned at some point by Bethesda. Some of you answered that you'd prefer Skyblivion over a hypothetical official remake. I personally won't, but I'll get to that. First let me explain that this post is not intended to diss the project, in fact, lots of talented people have joined the team, they're doing a wonderful job, and being a project done only for the love of it often translates to a far better quality. They're even including new content that an official remake won't have. (i.e. new dungeons and creatures)

I can also foresee that an official remake could probably be broken at launch, with less content and hardly enjoyable "à la GTA Trilogy", being the game industry so greedy and without proper quality assurance, it could be a mess. But, in the case it won't, it would be a comfortable remake for people like me who don't really like the fuzz of modding, editing .ini files, checking if a patch is working, load orders, etc., instead of playing something out of the box. Back in the day I loved it, and I still mod some of my games, but I'm tired boss. I just want to double-click on an icon and forget that MO2 exists.

Also, and again, not meant to diss the project, but Skyblivion won't be Oblivion. It will be Skyrim disguised as Oblivion. And yeah they're going to implement the class system and I'm really excited to see how have they brought attributes back and all of that. But even with that in mind, they're facing some of Skyrim's limitations. They already told that spellmaking could not be included, and in the videos shown NPCs won't interact with each other unless it's scripted, like in Skyrim. So no dynamic dialogues, even if they were kinda goofy in Oblivion, cities felt much more alive. There are also minor details from Skyrim that will make it feel less than Oblivion to me. The pacing is different. The walking animations. Footstep sounds. Ambience. The lighting rendering. Everything will remind me more of Skyrim than Oblivion. Because it's still Skyrim. Also, remember how distinguishable were human races in Oblivion and how indistinguishable are in Skyrim?

So anyway, it's being a longer post from what I intended. I'd love to discuss this topic and see what you guys think.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyblivion - Teaser Trailer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68uUeZGppXw&feature=push-prem-sub&attr_tag=CEylFZ2YNsjtaLpj%3A6

"We have been hard at work these past few years and recently a lot of that work has fallen into place, finally shaping up to what we can call a proper video game. We are super excited to see all our hard work pay off, more importantly though we are excited to show those who have supported us all this time what it has been for. It’s been a long ride but we are finally at a point where the end is almost in sight. We still need help with the project though, mostly in the 3D and coding departments but concept artists, CK modders and texture artists are always a welcome sight.

Our exterior world map is nearing its final stages of development meaning its close to being completed. Creatures, flora, weapons, armors and 3D assets in general are being implemented and produced at a rapid pace and as a result the world is starting to feel alive. The world is now inhabited by wild animals walking about and monsters trying to kill you at every corner. Quests have also made some great progress though a lot of debugging still needs to be done to make everything work as smoothly as possible. If you are simply a fan of the project and you want to help please share our video where you can, you might just reach someone that will help us finish this monster of a project sooner.

If you are a journalist please visit this link for screenshots, logo’s and general information about the project: https://skyblivion.com/press-kit/

Thank you for all the love and support ~Your Skyblivion Team"

A pessemist's thoughts on Beyond Skyrim, Skyblivion and other major mod projects

Beyond Skyrim, Odyssey of the Dragonborn, Olenveld, Lordbound, Skywind and Skyblivion:

What do these projects all have in common?

They are all brilliant in concept, exceptionally well-crafted and greatly advertised... And wildly overambitious.

Look, Skyrim has been around for a decade. And in that time, we have seen some amazing quest mods come and go, almost all of which have been in smaller scale than these bad boys. But they all got completed, and have been great to play.

And while these goliaths promise the world to the players, and probably could deliver that and more, if time wasn't a factor... it is. Skyrim is a decade old, the playerbase is smaller than ever, as is the actitivity on mod forums. And while these mod projects generally remain rather private on their progression speed, and number of active workers for obvious reasons, I have a discomforting feeling in my gut, that these teams are fighting a losing battle against attrition.

Skyrim's modding community was even extended the longest of life-lines imaginable, with the greatly delayed release of TES:6, meaning that there was no new game to steal away all the modders, like with Morrowind and Oblivion before it. Had TES: 6 followed previous release patterns, it would have released already back in 2016. But even an apparent doubling of the available time hasn't been enough to finish these titaninically sized mods. And it makes me really sad.

The people working on these projects are amazing people. They are creative, talented and engaged in their work. But they failed to concider the size of the beast that they went off to slay. Like a newly escaped Dragonborn heading off to kill a Giant and his mammoth.

Instead of heading off to complete almost every tamrielic province at the same time, Beyond Skyrim could have taken on one or two to completion, after which they could have moved on to the next. Instead of a small handful of finished projects though, we have 7 incomplete ones.

Odyssey of the Dragonborn, coming off the major success of Legacy of the Dragonborn promises a story consisting of 8 acts, but is still struggling with the first after 2 years, leading to a presumable release date in the 2030's or 40s. Legacy of the Dragonborn was amazing! It was of great size, but not so big that the devs couldn't finish what they set out to do. Odyssey seems to have bitten off more than it could ever hope to chew, though.

And so here we are, in 2021, with none of these projects promising release dates yet. Releasing teasers and showing off content, in the same maner that they did 5 years ago, but not showing any glimpts of finish lines on the horizons. Skyblivion and Lordbound seem to be the furthest along, and I don't expect them to be done till at least 2023.

Which brings me to my post. It's pessemistic, it's discomforting and it's exactly the OPPOSITE of what everyone wants to hear. And I'm sorry for being the buzzkill, and once again state that I have nothing but the greatest of respect for the modders who keep on trucking, never giving up and never compromising.

But as it stands, I expect a good portion of these projects won't ever see the light of day. At least not within a timeframe that matters, which would be a shame. A waste of the countless hours and passion that went into the projects. A desolate landscape, full of unfinished castles.

But the past is the past. Looking to the future may bring more comfort as another TES game is on the way. And unless Bethesda manages to screw the modding community completely over, there is no doubt in my mind, that a new influx of modders and players will bring new ideas to the table as wonderfully creative as the ones for Skyrim are, and have been.

My only wish for the TES modding community is to have learned from these experiences: to set reasonable targets, to concider carefully how much effort an idea would take, and most importantly, to work together. The greatest mods have and are being created by wonderful people, who dared to lay aside their own grand ideas, and work together with many others to create one unified acomplishment.

If we learn from this decade, I think TES:6 could come out with the greatest modding community in gaming history.

Why do people forget this when talking about Beyond Skyrim/Skyblivion?

I often see the question of stuff like Skyblivion, Beyond Skyrim, Skywind, ... ever releasing. Both here on Reddit and on YouTube.

And the most popular response is something like: No, because none of them have ever fully released. They are too big to ever release.

But that is not true. See Morrowblivion - Morrowind in the Oblivion Engine, to OG of Elder Scrolls renewal projects. So it seems people forget it exists or don't know about it in the first place, why is that?

Also, there is Daggerfall Unity, which is not exactly the same as the other projects, as Unity is not a Bethesda Engine, but it is also an old TES game in a newer Engine.

EDIT: I guess Enderal (for Skyrim) and Nehrim (for Oblivion) fit into this category as well

I just realize that it seems like we have this really strange phenomenon where more and more and more complete remasters of previous bethesda games as mod overhauls in the newer games keeps getting promised and never comes out. Am I missing some that actually came out? Are the promos just clout chasing or are they actually working on them?
