We Got This Covered - 5/5
Author: Josh Holloway
Every element of Hyper Light Drifter blends together to form a near perfect action-adventure game that's worthy to stand with the impeccable games it borrows from.
Hardcore Gamer - 4.5/5
Author: Matt Whittaker
Hyper Light Drifter stands out as a game that not only manages to combine exciting combat, gorgeous visuals and an inherent drive towards exploration, but its emotionally open-ended narrative and thematic prowess make this a title that feels like a true labor of love.
Slant Magazine - 4/5
Author: Aaron Riccio
It leaves the combat to speak for the story and trusts its murderer's row of cool ideas to, well, murder players.
PC Gamer - 78/100
Author: Andy Kelly
Stylish, beautiful, and uncompromising, Hyper Light Drifter is as rewarding as it is frustrating.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - No Score
Author: John Walker
[T]here goes my time with Hyper Light Drifter, a completely gorgeous game I was utterly loving. It apparently doesn’t want me to play it any more.
Destructoid - 9/10
Author: Nic Rowen
Mood and atmosphere can carry me a long way, and I adored every second I spent in Hyper Light Drifter's world. The combat and movement often left me slack-jawed and giddy, a perfect homage to the '90s RPGs that obviously inspired Heart Machine, while still feeling completely fresh and constantly surprising.
Arcade Sushi - 7/10

Hyper Light Drifter shows a lot of potential thanks to its great combat and solid world building. Where it falls flat is its miserable starting area, boring exploration and inconsequential plot.
G4@Syfygames - 9/10
Author: Grant Patterson
Hyper Light Drifter is a great game, but it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. It's polished to a mirror shine, it's tuned to mechanical harmony, it's gorgeous for the eyes and ears alike, but has a plot that doesn't even try (or even seemingly care) to make sense. It can also be really, really tedious to play through, as it leans heavily on classical, trial-and-error mechanics. It's a rare and beautiful gem that only certain people will find the full, true value in.
IGN Spain - 8.5/10

A beautiful and hard experience that may have a narrative that's just ok.

Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 16bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale. Hyper Light Breaker is a follow-up to Drifter and is a fully 3D co-op action rogue-lite adventure.
Today I started Tunic searching a game with a similar type of secrets. But something was missing, the melancolic vibes, the lonely spaces and all those important lore stuff. What have you been playing that always gives you the sames vibes of hld?

A gaming sub free from the news, hype and drama that surround current releases, catering instead to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Whether it's price, waiting for bugs/issues to be patched, DLC to be released, don't meet the system requirements, or just haven't had the time to keep up with the latest releases.
I was looking for roguelikes on the PS Extra service. Although there aren't actually that many Children of Morta looked interesting and it was well reviewed. I'm glad I played and completed it as its a very competent roguelike dungeon crawler.
First off, the pixel-art graphics are quite stunning. I'm continually impressed by what devs can pull off with this art style. Blasphemous, Octopath Traveler and Hyper Light Drifter have all impressed me with their style and animations, and now Children of Morta joins the list.
The story is pretty standard (corruption spreading over the world and only YOU can stop it), but what Children of Morta does differently is having all 6 playable characters be part of a family. Each one has a different combat style ranging from typical sword/shield to an archer, fireball-casting mage, martial arts expert, quick daggers, etc. Each has their own skill trees to unlock and strengthen new abilities. There are also a large variety of buffs/debuffs available to activate with runes and shrines. While the combat isn't as demanding as Hyper Light Drifter, there is enough enemy variety to keep the dungeon-crawling consistently engaging.
There are some sorta-sidequests you can find in the dungeons as well, which help to flesh out the story and world and also add merchants and NPCs to your hub.
It's not a typical roguelike in its structure though, which normally have you restarting at the very beginning each run. Instead you traverse through 3 regions, each with a few areas and once one is completed you move on to the next. At the end of each area is a boss, which are fairly challenging (though I one-shotted a few of them).
I also have to give props to the narrator, whose voice is like warm honey and whose presence elevates the stock-standard plot.
Overall I really enjoyed my 20 hours with Children of Morta, which thankfully didn't overstay its welcome. 8/10

I feel like I'm late to playing this one, but most people on this sub probably are on most games.. Ive had it in my library for a while but had not gotten around to playing though it.
Here are some of my unorganized thoughts:
The game is fairly difficult until you realize you can plink(basically animation cancel between gunshot and sword slash)
The environments and art are downright gorgeous. Pixel perfection.
Chain dash(main movement mechanic) is pretty damn hard to use. It feels amazing when you get it right, but the acceleration required to match it is tough even for seasoned mechanical game players.
The boss fights are well designed but seem almost too easy so far when plinking. I have only completed the first 3 areas and have yet to venture south(supposedly harder).
Some of the secrets are extremely easy to miss and are required to complete areas. I'll be honest I like Metroidvanias and dont mind backtracking, but the level of recognition required seems a bit absurd.
My biggest gripe was with the map. I feel like it seems harder to navigate the map then it seemed to need. I appreciate the design of it and how it differed from your average map. Maybe just me but it felt pretty difficult to navigate.
Overall I would highly suggest although you may need a guide as I did.
