Wait so action news tracked the luggage, told the thieves that there was an AirTag, then the thieves ditched the AirTag but kept the luggage? If I’m reading that correctly, terrible job by action news lol. Literally helped them get away

What else were they going to do? Call the cops? Hahahaha

[–]topic_discusser 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well to start they could not tell the thieves how they were being tracked, lol

This is such a good example of how I don't know how anyone can make the case local news is about informing or helping people - this specific crime is not relevant to anyone but the guy who lost his luggage, telling us about it doesn't give anyone any new tools to prevent it happening to them, and they're clearly just trying (and failing) to make "good TV" with this chase.

It brings attention to a problem which can bring pressure to those who can address the problem.

That might be a side effect, but you can't look at this ridiculous way they presented it and seriously conclude that that's their main goal. This is so transparently doing all they can to turn a relatively boring story that doesn't even have an ending into a salacious and suspenseful "chase" for ratings.

Of course it isn’t their main goal. They’re funded by ads and their main goal is ratings. But it is their angle.

I guess I would say that having an angle to try to get a specific result rather than just reporting things that are actually relevant and useful to people is another symptom of what I'm talking about. "If it bleeds it leads" isn't a public service.

Sounds like you should tune into PBS and NPR 🤙

[–]TamaraTime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ganking groceries is one thing, a man’s gotta eat. But ganking luggage is greasy

"J-Roc don't suck your teeth at me man"

Literally every day in Philly gets closer to trailer park boys

I once witnessed a woman rip apart her bag at baggage claim and yell with her friend that airport workers took all their weed. Foreign tourists stood and watched the moment play out like an pbs nature program.

It's fascinating to see people on this sub reveal that they hate the working class
