Arc Raiders, you are one of our only hopes!

With Sony's Concord emerging as a regurgitated Hero, Overwatch/Valorant trend-chasing Shooter yawn after Sony canceled The Last Of Us: Factions...

Additionally, in the shadow of Ubisoft's cancelation of The Division Heartland...

It's becoming clearer & clearer - in parallel with the quality execution found in The Finals - that, Arc Raiders is the now-last standing hope of what seemed to be a potential handful of Extraction candidates.

I've been pumped for Arc Raiders for some time, though with how good The Finals turned out to be & the demise of what were perceived to be Arc Raiders' future competition (in the games listed above), I'm even more pumped!

I guess, Sony still has FairGame$ but Arc Raiders' sci-fi premise & open world scope makes it so much cooler. Plus, Sony's clearly morphing further into mascot cheese by Concord turning out to be just an Overwatch imitation at its core. So, I wouldn't be surprised if FairGame$ is more Hero-ilk bs.

Can't wait to see Arc Raiders at Summer Game Fest in a week or so!🤞 I mean, I'd assume that's what they're bringing to the table...can't just only be an update regarding The Finals next season or a new mode.

Can't wait!

ARC Raiders: The Extraction Shooter That Went Silent

ARC Raiders, the highly anticipated extraction shooter that has gone radio silent. Originally developed by Embark Studios, ARC Raiders promised to deliver a unique blend of PvPvE gameplay in a visually stunning sci-fi world. But as 2024 progresses, the game’s prolonged silence has left fans wondering what happened.

We explore the initial hype around the game, the technical challenges it faced during early playtests, and the ambitious shift from a cooperative PvE shooter to a PvPvE format. Additionally, we compare ARC Raiders to other upcoming extraction shooters like Delta Force: Hawk Ops and Arena Breakout: Infinite, which have kept their communities engaged with regular updates and promising new content.

6 Hopes for Arc Raiders...

This subreddit will probably be pretty dead until the late September beta. So in an effort to get some discussion going I thought I'd share seven hopes for Arc Raiders. Please read, comment, criticize, agree with any of the following points. Or better yet, leave a few of your own.

  1. RPG RPG RPG. Arc Raiders (and Extraction Shooters) need to be about the fun and interest that can be had from building your character over X amount of time. Progressing your character from a base character to an end of season behemoth needs to be a thrill. I feel like Escape from Tarkov does this reasonably well while Hunt Showdown struggles with this. Marathon needs to be the head and shoulders winner in this area.

  2. Give us gates. A gate is any area that can't be accessed without certain qualifications being met. Maybe all three of your teammates need a level 5 key card. Maybe one member on your team needs a rare grappling hook to get you to the elevator call button. Maybe all your teammates need gas masks to enter a noxious zone. Maybe you need to press 5 buttons simultaneosly to call an ultra rare elevator requiring you to work with another team. Gates make the map feel more alive, and allows developers to play with PvP concentration in certain areas.

  3. Make solo play viable. I want playing alone (or with my 1 friend) to feel fun and rewarding. I don't want it to be impossible to extract against other three man teams. Playing shorthanded should be enjoyable and productive if you play smart. That means aquiring materials as a solo player should be transfered over to when I can get two of my friends on.

  4. Proximity chat. This is just way cooler. I want to be able to talk, insult, and laugh at my opponents. I want to hear my enemies during the good times, the bad times, and the ugly times.

  5. I want my hear beating out of my chest. I felt DMZ (Call of Duty) failed mostly because there was never anything I cared enough about to lose. The upgrades were so miniscule in that game that it never got my emotions going. Arc Raiders need to give us stakes and risk up the wazoo.

  6. I want the machines to have better AI than any PvP game on earth. I want fighting them to be fun, offer a magnitude of different strategies, be difficult etc... Hell, we should be able to hack them to make them work for us. The machines should facilitate interesting PvP interactions.

Any numbers you like? Anything you disagree with? Let's get the discussion going...

I fully expect Arc Raiders to be filled with a toxic PvP camping fest. Having said that I still can't wait for some news about this game, any other play tests coming up? Any news period?

The Q2 2024 Nexon Earnings Call didnt have Arc Raiders info

copies of the investor earnings call presentation and notes for today can be found here: https://www.nexon.co.jp/en/ir/

Unfortunately, the only real mention of arc raiders is still just that it is a game in the pipeline with a 'TBD' release date

There was one explicit mention, and it is just that "Nexon and Embark Studios announced agreements with Tencent to customize THE FINALS and ARC Raiders to appeal to players in China."

No clue what it means to customize the game to appeal to players in China, but it is not the news I was hoping for :'(

I’m excited for Arc Raiders again and its thanks to Helldivers 2

So like many of you I was over the moon hyped for the original vision the Arc Raiders reveal trailer showed off. And also like many of you I was similarly disappointed when they announced the switch away from a dedicated PvE game to PvPvE. Now granted I’m a fan of extraction shooters and playing the Alpha went a long way to filling me with some confidence that I’ll still enjoy Arc Raiders in that format, especially because each new extraction shooter I’ve played still hasn’t quite hit the mark for me, so it still has the potential to be ‘the one’. But admittedly it wasn’t so much the switch TO PvPvE that bothered me but the switch AWAY from PVE because it really felt like Arc Raiders could be the game to finally nail the potential to be that next great coop shooter. It felt like a downgrade and to some degree still does.

I’ve played a decent amount of the first Helldivers and enjoyed it but with a bunch of other releases near Helldivers 2 I’m interested in I hadn’t paid the sequel much attention. Buddy of mine was really considering it at launch so I figured I would check out more info on it and those details kinda clicked everything into place. Its obviously its own thing but the scale of the larger enemies, jump packs and a few other things feel like the closest any other game is coming to matching what originally got me so excited from that initial Arc Raiders reveal.

As a result its lifted a weight off my expectations for Arc Raiders. I’m no longer really concerned with what it isn’t and able to really enjoy what it now wants to be, including a visual aesthetic I’m still an absolute sucker for that I don’t think many other games do well. I realize that the differences in Helldivers 2 may not have the same effect on others but for me its like that game is wiping the slate clean for Arc Raiders and I’m incredibly excited for it again. At the very least it means I’ve got what looks to be a great coop PVE shooter to look forward to again.
