Arthur from the tick
"Dont be a crybaby Arthur, be a TRYbaby!"
Not in the face!
The only correct response after hearing a battle cry of "Spoon!"
Thank you!!
Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.
Every single version of The Tick was hilarious and ended too soon.
The Amazon series has potential. It was ahead of its time unfortunately.
Ended too soon? Whatchu talking about? The Tick cartoon is on every Saturday morning after X-Me-
Oh, wait. I old.
I fucking loved the more recent one. I loved how everything about the show was played almost completely straight forward and then there was The Tick being completely absurd.
the first twelve issues are pure gold
Thank you for that!
I can hear this.
I genuinely can’t tell if this is something he actually said or if you made it up, but its fucking hilarious
You know, Arthur, it's really been quite a day. On the outside, oh, sure, we were pursued by Swiss Industrial Spies, trapped in the belly of a whale. But what really pursued us?
SPOOOOOOOON!

The similarities are crazy. I don't know how I never made the connection!

Jackson Publick is one of the creators of the Venture Bros. and used to be a writer on the Tick
I actually thought that for a second. I remembered Arthur being slimmer for some reason.
more known for "not in the face" Man and Moth Man.
ARTHUR!!!
SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!
Not in the face! Not in the face!
I still joke with people that this is my battle cry, lmao
crashes through the ceiling
But why a spoon brother?
HONK IF YOU LOVE JUSTICE!!!
Monkey outta nowhere!!
Thank you!!
That, as others have noted, is Arthur from the Tick. What’s impressive is that it’s survived this long. It was from a tie-in toy run from 1995 by Bandai.
They were hilarious, because in addition to the heavy hitters like Arthur, The Tick, American Maid, etc, they also included goofier characters like The Human Bullet and a Die Fleidermaus figure whose only gimmick was that he was “dramatic.”
(All the others did something, like Arthur’s flapping wings , or The Tick’s jump. But, much like the character, Die Fleidermaus…did nothing. It was great.)
Continuing with how awesomely useless Die Fleidermaus is...in the Tick beat 'em up SNES game (probably the Genesis version, too) occasionally characters will come and fight with you back to back...except our boy, who just holds his cape to look cool and leaves after getting punched once.
YES! I had the Genesis version! Every time I got him I’d laugh, then get extremely frustrated as I got housed by a bunch of ninjas. That game was hard.
Also, real dumb idea to make a super hard game and populate the opening levels with a bunch of generic ninja assholes.
The Idea Men don’t show up until Stage 2?? Lil kid me was pissed
I was confused about the ninjas at first too, until I read the comic. They're actually part of the first arc, and either an issue is called Night of a Million Zillion Ninjas or that's the name of the arc. But it's a great parody of Daredevil, and the ninjas are horribly ineffective idiots because they let the District Manager (actual character name!) lead the American Ninja division. He had no sense of ninjitsu but good business sense, and made a Ninja-themed amusement park to earn profits!
But yeah, that game was hard as balls!
LOL, holy shit.
One million years later, you finally made the opening part of that game make sense. The theme park setting, the big fat white guy in the karate gi, Paul the Samurai (who I’m realizing probably showed up in the comics like Red Scare and Chainsaw Vigilante)…all of it.
But it still doesn’t answer my biggest question…why lead with that? I wanted to fight Chairface Chippendale or El Seed, baby! I was a semi-hip little kid, and I had no idea Tick comics even existed.
My favorite bit from this is when the ninjas disguise themselves as a hedge.

Had to google die flaudermaus. Reminds me of Batmanuel!
Same character, believe it or not. There was a rights issue with DF — something about Ben Edlund not owning the rights to him because he was created for the cartoon show.
But Edlund loved the idea of him, so they basically filed the serial number off and renamed him: Hence, Batmanuel.
Same for American Maid/Captain Liberty.
TIL! Man I need to rewatch The Tick
It completely holds up. If you like the Venture Brothers, you’ll love The Tick. It shares so much DNA they’re practically related.
(No coincidence there: Christopher McCulloch, one of the co-creators, pitched it after the The Tick ended, and Ben Edlund wrote a few episodes.)
The live action show was just getting its legs at the end of the first season. You could tell it would have been one of those shows that killed it from season 2 onwards. Alas.
The newest live action show on Amazon was really good too. Had a lot of heart but not in a stupid way. All versions of The Tick are good.
My favorite thing about Bat Manuel is that Nestor Carbonell became a proper A-lister after his run. Lol
When I saw that he was the Mayor of Gotham City, I actually cheered in the theater.
(My first introduction to him — and that put-on accent — was a Kirstie Alley (RIP) sitcom called Veronica’s Closet. He played a photographer or something and he was great)
EDIT: it was actually Suddenly Susan. Always check IMDB.
Oh man I forgot about that show. I was team Just Shoot Me with David Spade, lol
I loved The Human Bullet.
"Fire me, boy!!!"
I loved Bi-polar Bear myself.
"This looks like a job for Bi-Polar Bear! But I can't seem to get out of bed this month."
Want to hear something extra-dumb? The Bi-Polar Bear gag was what first got me interested in — and indirectly caused me to study — psychology
Pfft! That's great! I won a trivia contest in a bar once because the Dinosaur Niel episode taught me acetylsalicylic acid was commonly known as aspirin...everyone thought I was a genius and I couldn't bear to tell them it was a cartoon that made me smart.
[Sails into the air, proceeds to disappear for most of the episode, smacks into dam well after everything is over.]
I totally had his action figure. You could fire the helmet off his head!
I still quote Handy, lol. I loved that green little puppet!
“Well that was an Oedipal moment.” Everyone else looks confused “Sophocles?” More confusion “Oedipus Tyrannus?”… “The guy plucks his own eyes out?!”… “Read a book!”
I remember when those toys came out, and older collectors were buying up Die Fledermaus thinking it was a Batman variant figure, and then when they found out it wasn’t Batman, they threw them away, inadvertently making them super rare and very valuable to collectors.
My email notification sound for years was:
“Hey…a letter! 🎵Somebody loves Die Fliedermaus!🎵”
Originally voiced by The Monkees Mickey Dolenz.
Really? I had no idea!
Monkees. But anyway, HAH!
"Dont be a cryababy Arthur, be a TRYbaby!"
god I miss Patrick Warburton as the Tick
Peter Serafinowicz does an excellent job on Amazon's version of the Tick as well.
Ended way too soon
Thank you! That show was so good. Couldn’t stop watching. Hilarious
I had a hard time not seeing him as Aldo from the movie Spy.
Or am I?
Arthur! His old costume from the 90s not the reboot on Amazon
Duh dweeee duh duh duh dwee dah
Arthur from the tick! He’s wearing a moth outfit & it’s a running joke that he looks like a rabbit. He’s the straight man & The Tick’s sidekick. It’s basically a parody of super hero comics & it’s really funny. The cartoon is on Hulu & I highly recommend.
Ngl, I’m a bit jealous of you. I’d love to give that to my dad
I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS ON HULU!
May you have many nights under a moon with a bite mark and "CHA" on the surface.
Thank you & may you have SPOOOOOON!
God bless you for telling us that!
Arthur from the Tick. "Not in the Face!"
Arthur
Spoon!!! That’s Arthur!
Reporter: Tick, are you powerful enough to destroy the Earth?
Tick: Jeez, I hope not! That’s where I keep all my stuff!

Man I want a third season of that show,Did it get canceled?
The cartoon had a third season…and then was cancelled by Fox.
They have since tried to do two live actions versions of it, both of which were also cancelled, unfortunately.
I expect you are talking about the Amazon live action show? It is too bad about that.
Arthur
Arthur!
SPOON!!!
Arthur makes me smile.
Arthur: a legend.
Arthur from the comic book The Tick
Arthur

Two-ton twenty one
Arthur
Spoon!
NOT IN THE FACE!
I had this at one point! And several Tick action figures as well.
That's in pretty good shape. I love The Tick. I have some uncut trading cards, a bunch of action figure, and all three comics from the 1992 election, which was a weird thing for a comic in the first place.
Arthur! The Tick’s sidekick
Arthur
The tick is one of the greatest shows everrrrrrr “Hot dog!”
Looks like a guy in a bunny suit to me…

Not in the face!
Spoooooooooon!
I have the same one! Push button on back moves the wings. It’s from a show called “The Tick”. The cartoon original is the best. I have a Tick figure that balances on your finger and a tall action figure that speaks but is in French for some reason lol. I’m drunk. Keen!
That’s Arthur from the tick
Please read the first 12 issues of The Tick. You’ll be doing yourself a favor.
Umm, as has been said: Arthur. Haven’t been able to find however his super hero persona: The Moth.
Arthur if I remember
Made my night. Loved this show since I first saw it. Its on hulu. Going to watch it now. thank you for posting 💕😂

That's Arthur from the Tick! His battle cry is, "Not in the face!"
It's Arthur from The Tick! He really needs to get to a laundromat to wash his costume. ;)
SPOOON!
He's a bunny!
Huh. I was going to say the Monarch’s Henchman 21 from the Venture Bros, but clearly according to everyone else it’s Arthur from the Tick. So I’m curious to know now if Henchman 21 was modeled after this guy.
Arthur but now you must complete the set with Speak the talking dog and the Evil midnight bomber that bombs at midnight. SPOON!
Please don't be Mothman
I ARTHUR.
What?
Y’all need to watch more The Tick
These guys are all wrong. It's Mothra.
