Hi guys, im looking for a new laptop, and I came across the Acer aspire 5 A515-45-R760, that has these specs

Ryzen 7 5700u 8gb ram ddr4, max 20gb 256gb SSD n.v.m.e m.2

I wanted to know if this notebook is linux friendly, I already checked Linux-hardware.org, but it doesn't have this notebook on their database. So, does anyone have this notebook? Is it good for linux in general?

I was looking for a laptop for normal usage and some gaming ( GTA V or Apex Legends) for around $800 and came across this laptop. Model/Specs: Acer Aspire 5 a515-54g, 14 inch Intel i5 1135G7 mx350 8gb 512gb ssd.

Is this laptop good or are there any better options?

So I ended up changing what I was deciding between after looking more into these two. I’m not entirely sure which is better? Aspire AMD RYZEN 7 4700U 8 core 8GB RAM 512 GB NVMe SSD 15.6” FHD Swift 3 AMD RYZEN 7 4700U 8 core 8GB RAM 512GB NVMe SSD 14” FHD IPS

I heard some saying the aspire is much better than the swift and that the swift has awful screen quality and I need to place the order soon tonight and now I’m not sure which to get. Or if there might be a better option for $700

I’m mainly using it for ps2 emulation, rpg maker MV and MZ and Android emulation and some video and photo editing as well as school work if I decide to go back to school. Not really planning on playing any graphically intense games like the newest doom or ff7 remake when it comes out on pc etc I don’t really care about being portable so being bulky is fine I just care about having good build quality to last and not having overheating issues.

I want to say that while I'm open to other suggestions, I don't have too much time to buy my laptop so if you could focus on my two options that would be great :)

  • About the same price would be ideal, just because I don't place that much value on a laptop, but if I do end up liking something a lot (which is highly unlikely) money shouldn't be too much of an issue

  • As a uni student, having a laptop that could go to ~4 hours with moderate to low usage would be great! Most of my coding and gaming would take place at home, so I really would prioritize quality and output a lot more. Otherwise most other factors like aesthetic and build is something I really don't care about tbh.

  • I'll be carrying it around so maybe not something too heavy, but my backpack has had like 6+ kg worth of books before so I don't care about the weight that much.

• The laptop is the Acer Aspire 5 A514-52G, I recently bought this around 2020. I used MacBookPro16,3 for my SMBIOS.

• It has an Intel Core i5-10210U Quad-Core CPU, running at 2.10 GHz with Intel UHD Graphics 630 ^{(i think?}), with an added GeForce MX250 ^(disabled). The laptop came with 8 GB of RAM, but I added another 4 GB.

• The audio codec is a Realtek ALC256.

I was hoping to perhaps download a few party games. The laptop isn't great, but what could I download to play with a few friends? And would I be able to play with a combination of PS and Xbox controllers?

On face value, acer aspire is obviously superior but some people have told me that their laptops are not as reliable as lenovo and won't last as long

Hi, I dont know a lot about laptops but I am looking at three different versions of the Acer Aspire 5. Could use some inputs on which of the three gives me the most value for the money. Will use the laptop for school, light gaming, browsing the Internet, movies etc.

The first one has Full HD IPS, AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, Vega 8 Graphics, 4GB DDR4, 128 GB SSD, Windows 10 S-Mode. This will cost me about 430 dollars because I have to pay for shipping.

The second one has Full HD TN, AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, Vega 8 Graphics, 16 GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, Windows 10. This will cost me about 650 dollars.

The third one has Full HD IPS, Intel Core i5 1021U, Intel UHD 630, 8 GB DDR4, 512 GB SSD, Windows 10. This also costs about 650 dollars.

This is recommended a lot around the 500-600$ range. Seems like a good deal.
