Man this game looks amazing, how is it for a newcomer? and should I buy it now or wait for the price decrease?
7's real easy to get in terms of lore/plot.
There's a tons of call backs, but you'll never real be lost.
It's a fantastic 10/15 hour campaign. But if you're not interested in replaying missions for trophies/unlockables and the idea of multiplayer didn't appeal to you it's not a great value proposition.
That said, on sale I can't recommend this game enough. It's an absolute blast. The latter sections tell one of my new favourite war stories.
....however, apparently it is frustratingly hard for new folks. I’ve been playing since I was a kid and I died a few times on the oil level and the Arsenal bird fight, but I’ve seen new people on this subreddit that literally can’t get passed levels for days even on easy.
I can see that. The boss in mission 10 was an absolute pain in the ass on hard until I said screw it and brought The Railgun
<<some oil trucks filled with oil are getting away>> over and over and over hahah
It's not hard in a gameplay sense, the issue is that the game isn't all that intuitive about how some things should be done, so for instance in the 6th mission you have destroy a bunch of ground targets which is incredibly difficult with a regular fighter but the game never really highlights the benefits of ground-attack aircraft which make it way easier. Worse is that if you've already spent your points, you have to grind past missions and the UI makes that process a little confusing since you have to quit out of the main campaign interface to replay missions.
It's still a great game for a first-timer and I'd recommend it to anyone interested, just feels like there are a few QOL changes that would solve the difficulty problem. Once or twice I had to look online for advice on what I was doing wrong and generally when I did, I completed the mission next attempt.
Argh but then I brought the A-10 which made it easy, but then it hits you with drones in the 2nd half of the mission.
Multi-role aircraft.
Or you can modulate your plane with different parts to cover up a weakness, enhance what's good, or make it balanced.
I barely play flight games. I played the first two Ace Combat games and Hawx before this one and jumped into AC7 on Hard and only had real trouble with mission 6 trying to get enough points.
I think it really boils down to what kind of player you are more than anything else.
This is the problem I had. Ended up starting over a difficulty down to need less points, but had enough o buy the A-10 by then so I easily surpassed the points I had needed for hard...
Some of the gimmick levels are hard (like that one with the sandstorm. Otherwise it's an issue of not bringing the right equipment which can really doom you on the "Defeat x% of the enemy" missions.
Can I play in first person/cockpit view the whole time if I want to? I've seen a lot of videos showing both perspectives but unclear if it's only certain sections or not . I'm so close to wanting to buy this
You have three perspectives. First person with no cockpit, first person with cockpit, and third person. You can use any of them at any time by clicking a button.
Badass, thats exactly what I needed to find out, I'm buying this today
i literally don’t understand this. this is my first ace combat game and everything is clearly explained (except for the machine gun reticule but i really should have figured that out before the final mission) throughout the game. listening to the mission briefings let’s you know MOST of what’s going to happen in a mission so that you can choose an appropriate plane and loadout. i think i only had to switch planes for two missions. i mean honestly i took out mr x in the a-10 for crying out loud. the only time i had real issues were when there were time sensitive objectives like harlings chopper or shooting the drones in the lightning storm when its not made super clear you’re supposed to be doing something specific or targeting enemies in a certain order. this game is great and i think anyone who wants to fly should try it out
Same here. Beat the game in 2 weekends. First ace combat game. It was a ton of fun... I only wish it had been longer.
If you hadn't already, I would heavily suggest looking into playing the older games in the series. They still hold up to this day, and while they have their flaws, they are absolutely amazing.
I'm waiting for a remaster of AC4. Played that so many times through on PS2. Hopefully they come out with a bundle of the old games for PS4.
"lol thing that people find hard isn't hard I found it ez" I'm sure I have found this comment on a forum of every game ever.
or maybe i’m saying that the game isn’t difficult if you’re actually paying attention to the information that’s being given?
That's like saying "dark souls isn't difficult if you just watch the enemy's attack animations and just, you know, avoid them". It's never really that simple.
the difference being that dark souls has one difficulty setting and it is punishing. this game gives you an easy flight configuration that keeps you level with the horizon as well as an easier enemy difficulty option.
