There was a day that I opened accuweather and it played an ad with audio. I had been a loyal user of accuweather for years but wow I have never uninstalled an app so fast. I can't use a weather app with even a slight possibility o doing that. I switched to darksky and am very happy with my life choices.

Dark Sky is what Apple's native weather app should have been.

There are numerous reasons to not use Accuweather, primarily that they have lobbied Congress to restrict the public’s access to NWS data.

BTW. Everyone in Central PA knows this as well as the business conduct of Accuweather.

This is why I only ever use weather.gov. Go straight to the source!

More than likely this is a reason why Apple has been more pushy for Location Services option “Only Use While using App” in iOS 11, even if the app didn’t provide the option before.

Actually, I think the uproar over Uber adding “always use location” with their shady history of misusing user location data and their subsequent response of “get over it” is probably more of the driver.

It says even when location sharing is turned off so probably not. Companies like Uber are probably more the reason for that feature's existence.

This will not effect this app at all, since it WORKS without using your GPS. This has nothing to do with this issue at all.

I've hated that the location settings aren't handled by iOS. The only while in app setting should be available for every app, regardless of what the developer has implemented.

What's frustrating is apple buries a lot of critical functionality under the "always" umbrella, so to use that you have to ask for always even if you never Touch the GPS or coordinate data.

Edit: I know, because I've written several apps. It's frustrating to try and provide functionality X, only to find out that adding that capability requires SUPER INVASIVE GPS ON 100% ALWAYS TRACK MODE when you just want a feature that doesn't even need coordinate data. I hope they give devs more "permission resolution" soon.

Weather Underground is a great alternative to AccuWeather.

This is the iOS version, but there's one for Android as well. I've been using WU now for more than 3 years. I love it.

Also, Storm by WU is great.

Deleted. Back to the stock weather app I guess.
