This one has definitely been on my radar. If nothing else, it's fucking gorgeous.

[–]aluzap[S] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Definitely stunning visuals.

[–]JoeCumiaSr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stunning.

[–]mikerhoaI AM IN HELL HELP ME 8 points9 points  (4 children)

It looks like it could be a "fuck you it's February" movie though.

[–]Brodiferus 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I looked this up and watched a bunch of Red Letter Media videos, but I don't really understand the concept. What specifically makes a movie a 'fuck you, it's (month)' movie?

[–]mikerhoaI AM IN HELL HELP ME 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Studios usually release their big budget tent poles/awards bait between March and December.

If a film isn't testing well, or there's some other doubts about its quality, it gets dumped in the box office graveyard of January or February.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dump_months

Now this isn't absolute. Some of these films either make decent money or even go on to be critical successes. Cloverfield is famously a "Fuck You" movie, as was the gigantic box office hit The Devil Inside, which turned a $100 million profit despite having a robust 6% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

[–]Brodiferus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed response!

[–]OberonGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is "A Cure For Wellness" replacing "Altered States"?

[–]hamelemental2 5 points6 points  (5 children)

And it's directed by Gore Verbinski, who did the american Ring.

[–]Platanales 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Awesome! is there anything else he has done after the ring remake?

[–]hamelemental2 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Yeah, all he's pretty much done since then is the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Rango, and The Lone Ranger. Him and Johnny Depp are pretty tight, I guess.

[–]court_cake 16 points17 points  (7 children)

The filmography looks amazing but based on the trailer it has the potential to be really good or really disappointing

[–]aluzap[S] 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Fingers crossed that it blows it out of the water. Gore Verbinski's done great and bad stuff in the past, but he definitely knows his way around horror (The Ring), so I have tentatively high hopes.

[–]dustyspectacles 8 points9 points  (1 child)

He does seem to be a master of cold light filters, that off-green looks like it's working nicely here.

I'm sure it bugs some people but to me it makes the atmosphere kind of cling to everything and drives up the creep by being just a little off.

Top Gear used a very blue-green filter on one of their reviews to accent a rainy day some time ago and I drove my sister nuts with the "Seven daysss", good times. :)

[–]aluzap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So interesting - never occurred to me how off-green/bluish The Ring is! But it totally is! Definitely turns up the creepiness level.

[–]nohitter21 0 points1 point  (2 children)

He was also on board to do Bioshock which would have been horror for sure.

[–]-Slade- 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I heard they wanted Darren Aronofsky to direct a Bioshock movie. So are they gonna make a Bioshock movie or not? Whats going on with that project?

[–]nohitter21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt it but I would bet that a lot of video game movies futures depend on how well Assassins Creed does.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe you just described the potential of most films at some stage in their production.

[–]kashewnia 15 points16 points  (11 children)

Also: https://youtu.be/WO0YJleWGBc

They are doing AHS-level promoting with these

[–]Milo_theHutt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right! Every time I see that photo from the thumbnail I think it's an AHS promo

[–]aluzap[S] 8 points9 points  (9 children)

Totally. Though I hope the movie ends up being better than AHS season 6 :/

[–]bagboyrebel 4 points5 points  (8 children)

AHS season 6

Season 6 has been the best season since 2.

[–]Dreadzy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The first 4 episodes of Freak Show (Twisty's storyline) were the best since season 2. Season 6 was like a half-assed attempt at something unique. I suppose it was better than Hotel and the ending of Freak Show, but Ryan Murphy and his co-writer have lost their touch.

[–]bagboyrebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least this season wasn't a thinly veiled soap opera like the last few. Although I agree with you about the Twisty stuff from Freak Show.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I watch that show but I can't stand how it's shot and cut together like a Michael Bay movie. It really lessens the tension for me. I'd love to see more horror anthology series' like it though.

[–]bagboyrebel 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I've only seen the first episode so far, but Channel Zero seems promising.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Haven't seen it yet, is it streaming anywhere?

[–]bagboyrebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a SyFy channel show. Only streaming on their website if you have cable.

[–]imjusta_billJesus Wept 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But nothing exploded

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct

[–]duckandweave 55 points56 points  (21 children)

Looks like it could be alright yea. Will give it a watch. On a side note, I am hating how trailers are covering old songs in a creepy or tense fashion. Just bugs me for some reason.

[–]I_AM_LOOKING_AT_YOU 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This slow Ramones cover is among the worst I've heard. They've been doing these dramatic covers for trailers for many years, but now I am getting really sick of them.

[–]keeganrh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"I Think We're Alone Now" was used in the 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer, that was a pretty fantastic use of a slowed down song for creep factor, but they actually started the song normally and they showed it down as shit hit the fan in the trailer. That's probably my favorite usage.

I agree though, at this point it's a lame and overdone cliche. Almost expected at this point.

The slow and creepy "I've Got No Strings" in the Ultron trailer too! Shit, it has reeeeally been overdone.

[–]megatom0 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I'm the same way. It can be effective, but it is so overused. And doing it with a song like Blitzkrieg Bop almost feels like a parody of itself. Doing songs like "Everyone Wants to Rule to World" or whatever kind of work, but still I'd rather see the whole trope never done again.

[–]vlad_jazzhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's I wanna be sedated, not blitzkrieg bop you p0seur.

[–]aluzap[S] 9 points10 points  (10 children)

Haha, like "Sweet Child O' Mine in this trailer from The Last House on the Left remake? Yeah, it's kind of annoying.

[–]ShetlandJames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That Fuck Buttons intro though

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Sweet Child O' Mine is such a happy sounding song even when it's trying to sound sad.

[–]aluzap[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Really? I think it sounds pretty creepy here

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I dunno. I think it's just too fast paced and isn't my type of horror. The Dead Space trailer does a pretty good job at taking songs/lullaby and making it scary.

If you aren't familiar with the game pretend you're watching a trailer for Event Horizon or the space version of The Thing.

[–]aluzap[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ok. Yeah. That is the fucking creepiest rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star I've ever heard.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire game is the creepy. I recommend playing it! It's from 2007 so it should be cheap and a tablet could run it (mine does)

[–]Milo_theHutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk man, the Vega choir rendition of creep for the social network was pretty gnarly

[–]biblosaurusgost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite is that X-Men: Apocalypse trailer that slowed down an already slow and sad Coldplay song

[–]Rosenrot1791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG, me too. It drives me nuts.

[–]abicepgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are trailers produced? By the marketing arm of the production company? Why is this happening?

[–]Brendancs0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause most of the covers are shit and ruin the song

[–]omnibusplease 13 points14 points  (1 child)

That Ramones cover is just awful

[–]aluzap[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not really a fan. But it is pretty creepy.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks a bit like Shutter Island, which isn't a bad thing at all!

[–]Number1AbeLincolnFan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[√] Slow tempo acapella indie girl voice cover of a 1980's rock/metal song

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stopped watching the trailer halfway through because it was telling me too much!. Looks trippy, just how I like it.

[–]mikerhoaI AM IN HELL HELP ME 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I kind of loathe this trend of stylized covers of older songs over movie trailers.

That Ramones song has fuck all to do with what's going on in these clips. It's kind of a joke song. Yet here they are trying make it all eerie and shit.

[–]THANAT0PS1S 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the subject matter actually applies really well: it can be construed to be about a mental hospital and treatments of mental patients. "I wanna be sedated...Put me in a wheelchair...Before I go insane...I can't control my fingers, I can't control my brain." It works decently.

That said, this trend of ironically creepy interpretations of happy songs really needs to die.

[–]kashewnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty awesome. Hope it lives up to how good i expect it to be based off the trailer :D

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I just saw that girl on the bike in the Tunnel tv show - think it was her

[–]aluzap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's Mia Goth.

[–]chambertloIf you don't want to be "spoiled", get off the internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such an amazing trailer. Looks like a mix between the work of Tarsem and Lars Von Trier. I am really looking forward to this movie, even if it isn't a horror film.

[–]Madrical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dane DaHaan is gonna have an awesome 2017. This, Valerian & Tulip Fever all look great. I really wanted to know more about the film but I'm glad the trailer didn't reveal much at all.

[–]williafx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs way more Gore, and a lot less Verbinski.

[–]irinakenobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmmm hard to tell at this point but I'd give it a shot

[–]pilgrim_pastryJesus wept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a big Gore Verbinski fan, but I gotta say this looks gorgeous!

[–]GhostCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that does look pretty creepy.

[–]XtremeGnomeCakeover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play a Danny Elfman theme behind it instead of that gritty cover, it could be a Tim Burton movie. Still creepy, but not quite as scary.

[–]Schmolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why they wanted him to direct the 'Bioshock'-movie.

[–]spencerlevey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cinematography looks amazing.

[–]coolboyyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The youtube ad i got for it was so weird. It never mentioned the movie, just said "We all have an illness" or something.

[–]-Slade- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it will be a film about those people in the mental institution developing special psychic and telekinetic abilities or something along those lines, if so looks like it might be a very intriguing film imho.

[–]Kayin_Angel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what this is, but you had me at a Depp-free Gore Verbinski film with cinematography by Bojan Bazelli (who did The Ring remake as well).

[–]fuckfucknoose 0 points1 point  (3 children)

First horrible film for the director since he made the ring! Can't wait for this one

[–]Grimmmm 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Did you mean 'horror' by chance?

[–]Kayin_Angel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe he meant 'The Lone Ranger'.

[–]MaxSvalgard 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I saw this trailer a few weeks ago and said "Is this Altered States 2?" Then it showed the old people and I said "Is this Cacoon 3?"

I'm the worst at movie theaters.

[–]gvsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you're the best. I offered up "Road to Wellville 2: The Well-en-ing".

I want to watch movie trailers with you now.

[–]megatom0 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

I actually disliked the trailer for it with the slowed down of Blitzkrieg Bop; it almost felt like a parody of these kinds of trailers because of how stupid that song sounded. Like sometimes it works, I think the only ones I have liked that did this were the X-men Apocalypse one and the one of the Game of Thrones trailers that did it. This is a trope that needs to die IMO.

[–]PipestemHouse 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Not Blitzkrieg Bop, actually. It's I Wanna Be Sedated. Big Ramones fan, here.

[–]megatom0 0 points1 point  (1 child)

oh shit your right, and I should have known that. I guess they all kind of sound the same in my head.

[–]PipestemHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True of many Ramones tunes.

[–]DankDan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't frame it into a genre, just watch it. It's a story
