Damn - that is REALLY well done!

I plan to watch this movie this weekend. Im a little turned off by some of the negative reviews, what are your thoughts OP? what movie would you compare it to?

[–]orbojunglistYup, still using CS3 in '19[S] 34 points35 points  (1 child)

The comparison to Shutter Island is obvious, but third act is nowhere near as good. I enjoyed it despite the flaws, and tbh the start-middle of the movie is great (and weird), which probably makes the rest feel worse than it is, it would have been brilliant to end it in a less 'hollywood' manner.

it reminds me a bit of the first time I saw constantine and thought it was a bit shit, but I sorta love that movie now, so....

I agree. Beginning/middle of the film was great storytelling. The cinematography made me go "wow!" outloud multiple times. The ending was where it started to go downhill. It's still an interesting ride and certainly not a waste of time.

Fuck the reviews, we need more visually stunning weird ass movies. I thoroughly enjoyed it and that is, after all, the purpose of movies.

Personally, I think an hour could have been shaved off to make the story tighter and the ending can be predicted in the first 30 minutes, but other than that the movie is visually stunning, well acted and has a very great atmosphere. Definitely worth watching imo.

Same! Great concept and movie, just dragged out way too long.

A bit like shutter island but a bit more surreal and mental 😊

I don't regret watching the movie... I basically walked out of the theater going "breathtaking movie, but no idea whether I loved or hated it".

It just... Was.

Great work! If I could offer a suggestion, if you could get the clouds on the left side to look like they're rolling it would make this whole thing POP.

Great work on the little fuzzies floating by. Impressive work!

Thanks, not often I find a film with so many really good potential cinemagraphs. I still kinda like the bridge jumping guy the most ;)

The lower clouds are un-masked to give an idea of the amount of movement, the upper ones were moving more but nowhere near enough to give a fluid natural looking animation...I try to avoid adding elements from elsewhere, very hard to pull off without looking fake. some cloud movement would look cool, just not got the hardware or software to add/render something I'd feel happy with.

Could I request one of the girl standing at the ledge when he is driving in? That girl's performance was amazing. She stole the show for me.

Locations were lovely. The movie was awful. Every single Hammer film put into a blender.

Gore Verbinski has a great eye for shots like these. His movies may not be packed with substance, but they do have some serious expressions of form.

This is awesome. Could you make one for the scene where he lights the cigarette in the room? The way he sits still and the smoke moves off the cigarette looked perfect for a cinemagraph.

Oh, hell yes. I remember watching this hoping you'd make some gifs out of that badass cinematography, so thanks a million.

Forrest Gump?

Just a Dark Souls npc overlooking Archdragon Peak waiting to be talked to.

I'm so confused. This picture has a lot of upvotes and compliments, but the only things I see moving are some fluffy things.

Are the upvotes because of a feeling, or are there moving parts I am not noticing? (Words and pictures don't give me any feelings, so I am blind to some things). Thanks to anyone kind enough to answer.

This reminds me of Dark Souls for some reason. Anyone else?
