Here's my annual highlight list of runs in this year's AGDQ. Awesome Games Done Quick is a charity event organized by Games Done Quick where speedrunners all over the world gather together to raise money during a speedrunning marathon for a good cause. This year's main event was 7-day long and featured over 135 games and gathered over $3.1M for Prevent Cancer Foundation.

I made a few simple categories and put the top highlights in there for your viewing pleasure. If you only have time for a very few runs check out the ones I bolded out. They are pretty awesome. For other runs not mentioned here or in the comments I suggest you use a very handy website GDQVods.com to list & watch everything that AGDQ2020 offered.

I'd like to raise one run this year to showcase: Terraria was an incredibly wholesome run which started fast and somewhat hard to follow and progressed into this beautiful mess where pretty much everything went against the runner but somehow you still were entertained. The runner had such an positive energy and attitude towards every stroke of bad luck that you just kept cheering for him. I'm letting people with more Terraria knowledge explain just how bad it was for him in the comments.

Just think about it: you are showcasing your game for the first time in these events in front of live audience. The pressure is immense but you have practiced a lot and have multiple backup strategies and save files in case of emergencies and then it happens: chain of events that you know you cannot recover from. The panic sets in and you struggle to figure out-of-the-box solutions for your problem. Sometimes life just works that way. So huge props for the runner to remain positive throughout the run. Not many of us could repeat the same in similar circumstances.

Here's my annual highlight list of runs in AGDQ 2019. Awesome Games Done Quick is a charity event organized by Games Done Quick where speedrunners all over the world gather together to raise money during a speedrunning marathon for a good cause. This year's main event was 7-day long and featured over 130 games and gathered almost $2.4M for Prevent Cancer Foundation.

I made few categories and put the top highlights in there for your viewing pleasure. The categories are self-made so don't focus too much why a game is in a category, you should watch them all anyways.

I'd like to raise two different runs to showcase this event for different reasons why you should watch VODs from this event.

First is the Crypt of the Necrodancer: AMPLIFIED with a run so insane it's hard to understand how hard it is to pull that off. So Necrodancer is a rhythm based roguelite which means you move and attack based on the background rhythm which differs from level to level and everything is random so you cannot plan your route from the beginning. The runner is attempting a challenge run where you cannot take damage, cannot miss a beat, cannot upgrade your starting gear or gather gold and to top it all everything is in double the normal tempo which is so difficult that only one person out of thousands playing the game has ever even completed it. Basically you cannot do a single mistake and have to adapt to dynamic environments extremely quickly otherwise it's game over and you have to start from the beginning. Sadly the run has tech problems with game crashing so here's part 2 when that happens.

Secondly you should watch Sonic the Hedgehog 1 which was a run where a bunch of friends were having a good time and enjoying the game while breaking the old classic with funny glitches. Good all around positive energy and entertaining gameplay.

If you only have time for a very few runs besides those check out the ones I bolded out. They are pretty awesome.

Great commentary

Guacamelee 2 ~1h
Sonic the Hedgehog 1 ~20min
N++ ~30min

Here's my highlight list of AGDQ 2016. Awesome Games Done Quick is a charity event organized by Games Done Quick where speedrunners all over the world gather together to raise money during a speedrunning marathon for a good cause. This year's main event was 7-day long and featured over 150 games and at the writing of this gathered over $1.2M for Prevent Cancer Foundation.
