Hello! I'm a man that improvises long videos around physical items in front of a brown sofa. Ask me things.

PROOF-ME-DO: https://twitter.com/ashens/statuses/361577107270270976

I also co-wrote and starred in 'Ashens and the Quest for the GameChild', a full length, partially crowdfunded feature film that is being released for free on YouTube on 8th August. So you can also ask me about that, or making low budget movies to incredibly tight schedules in general.

And we filmed a comeback episode of classic 90's UK kid's TV show Knightmare this week so ask about that if you fancy. (I won't give any spoilers for that or the movie though, obv.)

EDIT: Nearly 3 hours in and I'm going to have to stop for the night lest I perish. I'll come back and mop up some more questions later!

Hello! I am Stuart Ashen, an English comedian best known for my improvised YouTube videos based around low quality products. Sometimes I write and perform more traditional comedy, such as Ashen's Tech Dump for the BBC. I also act a bit.

Ask me anything! But I won't answer anything that may compromise our agents in the field.

Proof for your eyes: http://twitter.com/#!/ashens/status/202488674838003712

EDIT: Phew, 3 hours of typing and my fingers have gone all crappy. I'm going now in case I damage them and thus have difficulty clicking on the skeletons in Diablo 3. Thanks for the lovely questions folks.

What does Stuart Ashen have the strength of?

In a lot of his videos he says something along the line of

"to open this/put this together you'd need the strength of (insert large number) men!"

but then proceeds to open or put together said item. So Ashens is clearly superhuman, but what is the total number of men that he possesses the strength of?

If there is anyone on here who has more spare time than me then maybe they could total them all up?

Don't forget to include the strength of 43 Hulks required to open the Signalex novelty camera! :-)

I run the YouTube channel Ashens which has over 145 million views and 667,000 subscribers. I talk about items whilst parading them in front of a dilapidated brown sofa. I make money by doing this. Sorry.

I'm also an actor and screenwriter - I co-wrote and starred in the successful indie film Ashens and the Quest for the Gamechild, which we released for free on YouTube in August 2013 and which subsequently got a Blu-ray and DVD release in the UK from Anchor Bay.

I do not currently have anything specific to promote, which means I timed this badly. Victoria is not helping me. My leg hurts.

YouTube channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/user/ashens You can watch the movie for free here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS2Cnx_eL6s

EDIT: It's gone midnight! I must escape. Thanks for coming out and feel free to pop over to r/ashens if you have any burning questions left unanswered.

Interesting shift of Ashens’ comedy style over time

Hello!

I’ve been an Ashens viewer since 2007 or 8 - old enough to have seen the channel progress basically.

What I’ve noticed that is really interesting is how his style and humour has changed over time. The early videos were clearly meant to be for a small audience; he never intended for the PopStation to be particularly popular and it shows. There were also a lot of older, weirder videos; Kenneth Lightly, Noseybonk Returns and the like stood out for being particularly strange. Ashens seemed to be very influenced by the weird British humour of the 80s and 90s. By the 2010s this had shifted into a very slick style where his videos had elements of that humour but were mellowed out, the videos usually weren’t standalone with the exception of the ‘weird thing I found in the pub’ and hotel room review. Since the late 2010s there was a big shift towards a new style of comedy; a bit more hyperactive, less sarcastic and dry and using less surreal humour.

It’s really interesting to have grown up alongside a YouTube channel and to have matured with it!

Has anyone else noticed the shift?

So, I was browsing Walmart's website for stuff, and I came across this. It's part of a Sega Video Games collection from Jakks Pacific, that includes Ai-Ai from Monkey Ball and the werewolf from the original Altered Beast. Looking at comments on the link this came from, it seems like people are crapping on it, already, just because of the company that's making it. Since I know Ashens thinks very highly of Streets of Rage 2 (understatement of the millennia, there), I'm wondering if this would be something he'd be interested in reviewing?
