Okay so venty vent incoming. It drives me INSANE when I’m scrolling through an online fashion retailer and so many of the models are either only positioned in bizarre ways that don’t accurately show the piece, or very obviously holding it somehow to be more flattering to their individual shape. I get that fashion needs to be aspirational and we so often buy things based on how it looks on the model, but I’ve started really zoning in on one particular website with one particular model who ALWAYS, no matter what angle, is holding one arm behind herself, clearly tightening the dress/shirt to define her waist a bit more. Like, she’s a beautiful woman, but oh my god I don’t know ANYONE who has the perfect size 8 hourglass figure with boobies that stay up, nor have I ever really seen off-the-rack clothing that fits a tiny waist with T & A perfectly. I just don’t feel like online retail fashion models should be so… instagrammy? It’s not a glamour shot for their social media profiles, shouldn’t it be about actually displaying the fit/look of an outfit? I suppose you can get into it a million ways saying the average fashion model definitely isn’t representative of an average body (because what even IS average anymore?), but I hate the deception of deliberately changing the shape of a piece to suit one particular model. If the dress is meant to be a-line or oversized, please don’t show me photos of it tightened around the models waist. I don’t even have a waist, I look like a walking pipe cleaner with eyes.
