Hi all—I’m looking for any recommendations for texts critical of the nuclear family unit, preferably those which include a precursor outline of how the structure and function of “family” has shifted throughout the ages and what led to these changes, demythologizing the concept from being “natural” from the ground up. I’m okay with most writer backgrounds and styles as long as it meets that criteria but have a strong preference for feminist analysis and would especially appreciate anything that takes into account patriarchal forces that maintain the nuclear family out of economic necessity, pressure, power, fear, etc. Plenty of radical feminist and anarchist texts touch on this but I’d like something entirely (or almost-entirely) about the topic.
