What's your favorite pop/rock song written for a movie?

Pet Sematary by the Ramones. Who would have thought the Ramones would write a song for a horror movie? But they did and I find myself singing it to myself for 30+ years now. "I don't want to be buried, in a pet cemetery... Don't want to live my life again..."

What's your favorite song or songs that were not pulled from a band's catalog of songs, but were written especially for a movie?

[TOMT][Song] Pop-rock song, newish, band with male and female singers

It was a pop-rock song, it’s fairly new but I don’t know how new, I’d say a range from 2012 to 2018. There are both male and female vocalists and harmonies in the chorus, I faintly remember the album cover having a lot of green and the band members (3 or 4 of them) sitting on the ground or something. I don’t remember any of the lyrics. The band is kind of well known but definitely not “famous”. Obviously since I don’t know the lyrics you probably couldn’t guess the exact song but if you can guess the artist or the album I’d be able to quickly find the song.

Update: Read every reply and checked every idea, unfortunately none of them are what I'm looking for :( Thanks everyone for helping me look!

[TOMT] [Music] 90s-2010s Grunge Pop-Rock Song with Sitar/Indian Riff

Driving me crazy, I've heard it in the last year but my husband looked like I was insane when I described it to him.

Date was from 90s-2010s. Indie/Alternative Rock but a moderately popular to popular band. Fused pop Alternative Rock with Indian Psychedelic Rock. White male singer with high pitched voice, singing in English. I think it was one of the band's hits but not the main one they were known for. Most of the song was dominated by what sounded like a Sitar or an Oud.

90% sure one of the verses started with "I don't mind-". Tempo of the song was pretty slow with a fairly consistent beat.

All attempts to use Google to find it have given me back 1990s Indian music by actual Indians or Beetles (and it definitely wasn't either).

İ loved this genre so much and I'm so grateful for Paramore to introducing me. But there is one problem, it's really so hard to find other female vocalist rock bands. Can you please recommend some of them? İt doesn't matter how much songs or listeners they have on Spotify. Thanks already and have a nice day<33

Edit: Omg you guys are literally so nice and thank you so much for all this recommendations! Also i followed almost every single one of this artists on Spotify, if I'm missed someone then I'm sorry.

Has anyone else noticed Max Martin's current dip into pop-rock production?

This sub's godfather, Max Martin, purveyor of pop hooks and catchy genre staples, is currently diving head first into pop-rock. Has anyone else noticed his latest turn into producing songs for bands and pop-rock acts ever since 2020?

Martin has always had a backbone in pop-rock, working with Bon Jovi and Def Leppard back in the day. Even his most "poppy" productions for P!nk and Katy Perry lend themselves to pop-rock and guitar driven work. That said, since the 2010s he has been fully entrenched in making pure pop classics and earning the love of the world's listeners. Working with Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Adele, among others, has been his comfort zone. Lately though he has slowed down his pure-pop output in favor of pop-rock acts and less commercially successful fare.

Since 2020, he has worked with Coldplay, The Jonas Brothers, Makeskin, and Post Malone. The music he has crafted with them is still poppy but these acts have replaced his typical collaborators as of late. Taylor has been cooking up albums with Jack Antonoff and Ariana has been absent from the studio due to her movie roles. The Weeknd is his last remaining dependable. It seems like Martin is trying to push pop-rock onto the radio in his own way now.

What do you think of Martin's push into the genre and the music he has put his name to as of late? Is he simply waiting for the big pop stars to return to him or could he be abandoning that lane? He could also just be testing the waters as he has earned that with his legendary career.

Who do you think he will collaborate with next? Imagine Dragons would fit the bill considering "Believer" was produced by "Wolf Cousins" which is his production outfit. They also have the most successful pop-rock hits aside from the one-offs of "Heat Waves" and "Feel It Still".

Do you hope Max Martin will return to your favorite artist's studios? I'm sure theres a hunger in this sub for new Taylor Swift music with Max Martin behind the booth. That said, is the general audience interested in this music now or have they switched to something new?

Anyways, I'm done worshipping this man's career for the moment, but please let me know what you think.

Seeking Vocalist for a 90's/00's Pop Rock and Punk Cover Band

We are seeking a vocalist to complete our cover band. We currently have 2 guitars, bass, and drums. We plan to cover songs from the 90's-00's that most audiences will know and enjoy. We aim to play 1-2 gigs a month in the Orange County area. The band has previously played gigs around the area, and most members have extensive experiences playing out around OC. We are all in our 30's-40's.

Here is a video (recorded on a phone during rehearsal) of us playing with our former singer, who moved out of the area.

We decide everything by vote, from what songs to play to where we should play gigs. So, we are especially looking for someone who can be a part of a group that makes decisions through consensus. That also means that we won't choose a final set list, or a band name, until we have found a singer. However, here are the songs we are playing so far for audition purposes; choose a few that you would like to do if you want to audition:

Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue
Blink 182 - Rockshow
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle
The Ataris - Boys of Summer
Foo Fighter - Monkey Wrench
Green Day - Basket Case
Green Day - Welcome to Paradise
Lit - My Own Worst Enemy
Fall Out Boy - Sugar We're Goin Down
Paramore - Misery Business (we can do this one in the key of the MGK, Travis Barker cover if needed)

Are you interested? Here's what to expect, and next steps:

  1. Send some audio of you singing. It doesn't have to be a polished recording (e.g., record something on your phone or computer over a backing track). We are really just looking to get a sense of your voice and tuning. Links preferred to file downloads.

  2. Send 3-5 songs that you might want to add to a potential set list (again, we all propose songs, and then we vote on them to decide which we will play).

  3. If we think you might be a good fit, we will invite you to come play with us to see how we sound together. We will learn one of the songs that you proposed, and you can pick any of the songs from the list above (5-7 songs total). We usually practice at Recess Studios in Santa Ana.

I am happy to answer any questions you have, but given that we all work full-time and do this for fun, please be patient if I don't get right back to you.

If you are interested email me at patrick.thomas.ryan@gmail.com

I am Alex Gaskarth, Singer / Songwriter / Guitarist of the Baltimore Pop-Rock band All Time Low -- Ask Me Anything!

Hey folks, I'm Alex from the band All Time Low - We've been a band for almost 11 years now, have several albums out, and have toured our asses off since we graduated high-school. We pride ourselves on our live show, and typically tour the world 300+ days out of the year, (when we aren't working on new music.) We're just finishing up in Europe / UK, and will be kicking off a US "underplay" tour next week with Handguns and Man Overboard. Got some down time in Glasgow, so I figured it'd be fun to jump on here and talk to you all about pretty much anything.

I'll be signing on at 5PM EST and will be answering questions until I consume too much alcohol to form coherent sentences!

Website Facebook Twitter

TL;DR Answering your questions until drunk. Be gentle.

EDIT: 5pm EST is upon us! Going to get down to business for as long as I can. :)

EDIT 2: Getting late over here in Glasgow -- Gonna hop off for a bit and give my eyes a rest. I'll probably jump back on later and continue to play catch up, so feel free to keep the questions coming. Thanks so much for all the questions / comments / support / love / hate. This has been very cool. Huge thanks to the mods at r/music for having me, and to r/poppunkers for all the help getting this set up in the first place.

[TOMT] [Song] 2000’s pop rock song by Female Vocalist

She sings about odd things i cannot remember for the life of me any lyric but think like random stuff in random places. Think of the song: Year 3000 lyrics. It’s slightly familiar. The only word I remember is “spaceship” The song is about odd things missing/happening/placed. The pre chorus has this “sims” sound. Think like when you’re creating a sim or loading the game up. The song has a piano playing throughout. And the are really pretty/cool harmonies in the chorus. She has a great voice very strong, but not belting in the song. I remember listening to this song almost everyday in 2012… So much nostalgia… It has a very 2000’s feel, pop rock for sure. I tried listening to many female artists especially ones who made albums in this time. She isn’t from Disney or Nickelodeon. Or any of those big stars. It’s not Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Fefe Dobson. PLEASE HELP!!!! Driving me crazy!!!

TIL the members of the 1980s pop/rock band Toto were prolific session musicians. Their work includes Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'. Collectively, the members have been recorded on over 5,000 albums, selling over 500,000,000 albums.

She's So Unusual at 40: A feminist, exciting sugar rush of pop rock

The front and back covers of She's So Unusual.

Background

Cyndi Lauper had never really fit in. The girl from Queens always marched to the beat of her own drum. After her parents divorced at 5, her mother remarried to a man who was abusive to Cyndi and her sister. As a result, she began writing songs at the age of 12 as an outlet when things got really bad. She also began expressing herself with a variety of hair colors and eccentric clothing. Unfortunately, this made her a target of bullying from her classmates. They even went as far as to throwing stones at her.

Cyndi was expelled from high school, later earning her GED. At the age of 17, she ran away from home to escape her stepfather after he was spying on her while she took a bath. She ended up in Canada, spending two weeks in the woods with her dog. She then went to Vermont, taking art classes while supporting herself working odd jobs.

Cyndi soon began performing as a vocalist with various cover bands in the early 70s. She was unhappy singing covers, and in 1977, she damaged her vocal cords. Despite doctors telling her she would never sing again, with the help of her vocal coach Katie Argesta, she regained her voice. A year later, Cyndi met saxophone player John Turi, and formed a rockabilly-new wave band called Blue Angel. Cyndi cowrote the songs with Turi, and Blue Angel’s self-titled album released in 1980. Despite receiving good reviews from critics, it sold poorly. Cyndi later joked that “it went lead” (rather than gold or platinum). The band also fired their manager, which led to him filing an $80,000 lawsuit against them. This forced Cyndi into bankruptcy. On top of all this, she ended up temporarily losing her voice again due to an inverted cyst in her vocal cord.

Cyndi ended up working in retail stores, waitressing at IHOP, and singing in local clubs to support herself. In 1981, she met David Wolff, who became her manager and boyfriend. After Cyndi impressed A&R executive Lennie Petze, Wolf had scored her a record deal with Portrait Records, a subsidiary of Epic Records.

The Recording of She’s So Unusual

Cyndi had always considered herself a songwriter first. However, for She’s So Unusual, she was willing to concede to the label’s demands and take on songs that she hadn’t written herself. The challenge then became to make the songs her own.

A prime example is “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”. Written by Robert Hazard, Cyndi felt the original song was misogynistic. So, Cyndi changed the perspective of the song and modified some of the lyrics to make it into a classic feminist anthem. Another example was “All Through the Night”. Cyndi slowed down Jules Shear’s original rendition and sang the upper harmony vocal as the lead vocal instead, injecting the song with a melancholy feel.

Cyndi was allowed to cowrite a few songs on the record. The most notable, of course, being “Time After Time”. Cowritten with Rob Hyman of The Hooters, this song was the secret crown jewel of the record. It was always played in the studio in secret, to make sure no one else around could here it and cop some of the melody or lyrics. The title actually was originally intended to be filler to hold the melody in place. Cyndi had spotted a copy of TV Guide in the studio, and noticed the 1979 sci-fi film Time After Time was playing. She wrote that in and ultimately it became the title of the song. The lyrics regarding “the second hand unwinding” were also observed in the studio, when one of the engineers looked down at his watch and noticed the second hand was moving backwards.

Another song she cowrote was “She Bop”, an ode to female masturbation. The song was inspired by copies of the gay men’s magazine Blueboy lying around the studio. Cyndi even turned down the lights and tickled herself in the nude in the studio to get the authentic and distinctive giggles heard on the track. Tipper Gore’s infamous Parents Music Resource Center later named the song as one of it’s “Filthy Fifteen”. This later led to the creation of the Parental Advisory sticker.

Album Artwork

She’s So Unusual is also noteworthy for it’s distinctive and eye catching front and back cover art. The front cover art was photographed on Coney Island in the summer of 1983 by the legendary Annie Leibovitz. Cyndi is wearing a vintage red prom-style dress. She purchased this dress while working at a vintage clothing shop, Screaming Mimi’s. Most of her outfits that she wore in her videos and public appearances were acquired over the years from working at Screaming Mimi’s. She is holding a bouquet of flowers that were purchased from a boardwalk vendor. She is photographed mid-dance, and her high heeled shoes have been kicked off and are laying in front of her, with her bare feet covered in red fishnet stockings. Kicking off her shoes later became a signature of Cyndi’s in live performances. There is also an umbrella to the right of her, and Cyndi is photographed in front of a blue building with a yellow door. This was The World In Wax Musee, which had been closed for some time and at the time of closure had featured a wax statue of Roberto Clemente. The museum was later demolished.

The back cover of She’s So Unusual features the soles of Cyndi’s white pumps with a print of van Gogh’s famous The Starry Night tacked onto them. Her feet are in front of Coney Island’s famous Parachute Jump ride. Despite Leibovitz’s concern about the back cover, she was impressed upon seeing the final result. The cover won art director Janet Perr the Grammy for Best Recording Package in 1985.

The Album

Side One opens with a cover of The Brain’s “Money Changes Everything”. The original version is a bit more punk and lo-fi, with frontman and songwriter Tom Gray singing in a strangled voice. Cyndi’s version added a jolt of energy to the song and showed off her impressive vocal range (see the long note she holds at the end of the song). Cyndi also changed up the lyrics; in this version, she leaves her ex holding the bag. Money Changes Everything was released as the 5th, and in the US, final single from She’s So Unusual. It became the only single from the album that failed to reach the Top 10, peaking at #27.

Next up is the iconic “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”. As previously mentioned, Cyndi had transformed the song into a classic feminist anthem, bringing along legendary songwriter Ellie Greenwich to sing backing vocals. The music video, directed by Edd Grilles, also became legendary. The video was shot on a budget of less than $35,000 (around $105,000 in today’s money), thanks to a largely volunteer cast and Lorne Michaels’ loan of multimillion dollar video equipment to create the sophisticated video effects. Cyndi’s mother in the video was played by her real life mother Catrine, and her father was played by legendary wrestler “Captain” Lou Albano. This began Cyndi’s close ties to the WWE, which helped popularize it to a mainstream audience. However, Cyndi felt in later years that it stifled her growth as an artist. The video is also noteworthy for it’s representation, with many women of color featured prominently in the video. This was at the insistence of Cyndi, who wanted girls all over the world to feel represented while watching the video. The final bedroom scene is an homage to the famous stateroom scene in the Marx Brothers’ film A Night at the Opera. The video was heavily rotated on MTV, which helped Cyndi became a big star. The song ultimately peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and earned Cyndi the inaugural MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video in 1984. The song itself was nominated for the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1985, losing both to Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It”.

Then, we have Cyndi’s cover of Prince’s “When You Were Mine”. Cyndi slowed down the tempo of the song, turning it into a midtempo, synthesizer based ballad. Notably, Cyndi didn’t change the pronouns in the song, making it sound like her lover is bisexual or gay. She also once again shows off her incredible range, hitting a whistle note in the bridge. Cyndi notably performed the song at the 1985 American Music Awards in front of Prince, who is said to have allegedly enjoyed her cover. While the song only received a promotional release as a single in the United States, it was released as a commercial single in Canada and Japan, becoming the final single released from the album in those countries.

Rounding out Side One, we come to the arguable crown jewel, “Time After Time”. Cyndi and Rob Hyman wrote the song as they were going through relationship difficulties. Hyman had just ended a long term relationship, and Cyndi was going through a rough patch with David Wolff. Hyman had come up with the line “suitcase of memories”, and many other lyrics had come from Cyndi’s life experiences. “Time After Time” ultimately became the final song recorded for the album. The record label wanted to release it as the lead single, but Cyndi protested. She felt that releasing a ballad as her first song would pigeonhole her as a balladeer. David Wolff also argued that “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” was the better choice, and the label agreed. “Time After Time” became the second single released from the album, peaking at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video, also directed by Edd Griles, features Cyndi and David Wolff playing a couple going through a tough relationship. Once again, Cyndi’s mother Catrine played her mother in the video, and “Captain” Lou Albano makes a cameo as a cook in the diner. The final scene of Cyndi waving goodbye to David on the train featured her crying for real. Cyndi was able to reflect on the pain she had gone through in her life and reflect that on film through her tears. The song continues to be highly acclaimed, ranking at #494 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. It was also nominated for Song of the Year at the 1985 Grammy Awards, once again losing to “What’s Love Got to Do With It”.

Side Two opens up with “She Bop”. The lyrics are full of double entendres related to masturbation: There’s the reference to seeing “them” in tight blue jeans in the pages of Blueboy magazine. Cyndi makes a reference that she wants to go south and get some more, and that she’ll go blind if she doesn’t stop (This is a reference to an old wives’ tale that masturbation will leave you blinded with hairy palms). The music video features Cyndi at a drive-in burger joint, before escaping with a biker (played by David Wolff) from a gang of busy bodies that want to arrest her for masturbating (Lou Albano, her mother and Wendi Richter feature in the gang). The video then transitions to an animated portion where Cyndi gets caught and thrown before the judge, before it ends with a dance routine performed by Cyndi and Wolff in white suits and sunglasses. The video, once again directed by Edd Griles, also expand with the subliminal references: There’s a mayonnaise container in a phallic shape that drips out; Cyndi’s car is full of steam coming out of the Beefcake magazine; There’s a large game board that reads “Masterbingo”; and a gas station sign that reads “Self Service”. “She Bop” was yet another hit, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 after being released as the 3rd single.

Next is “All Through the Night”, as mentioned before, Cyndi slowed down the song and sang the upper harmony vocal as the lead vocal. The song deals with two lovers who give up their preconceived notions and baggage for a fun night on the town. Jules Shear, the songwriter, joins Cyndi for backing vocal duties. Released as the fourth single from She’s So Unusual, “All Through the Night” peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. With this achievement, Cyndi became the first female singer to have 4 Top 5 singles from a single album. Notably, there was no video for “All Through the Night”; Portrait Records wanted to see how successful the song would be without MTV’s help.

Next is “Witness”. Written by Cyndi and her old bandmate John Turi, the song deals Cyndi being trapped in a broken relationship with a convict and not wanting to be dragged down with him. Following up is “I’ll Kiss You”. Cyndi cowrote this song with Jules Shear. Making references to “Love Potion No. 9”, it involves Cyndi taking a trip to see a mysterious woman who gives her Love Potion No. 9, after No. 8 failed to do anything. She drinks the potion, and while it makes her feel dizzy, it also makes her lustful and she vows to find her love and kiss him on the spot. As an aside, the song does use the slur “gypsy”.

The final two songs segue into one another. “He’s So Unusual” is an old 20s standard originally performed by Helen Kane (the inspiration for Betty Boop). Cyndi sings a truncated 45 second version in a Betty Boop affect. The opening of this song also opens the “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” video. Segueing into the final track “Yeah Yeah”, Cyndi’s Betty Boop impression continues over “Yeah Yeah”. Written by Swedes Hasse Huss and Mikael Rickfors, and originally performed by Rickfors, “Yeah Yeah” is a bouncy tune about never-ending love.

The B-side to “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” was “Right Track, Wrong Train”. A paranoid sounding, synth pop track, the song deals with Cyndi rushing to make a train on time, only to realize that she ended up on the wrong train. She finds herself lost (comparing it to The Outer Limits), surrounded by unfamiliar faces and going God knows where. The song was written by Cyndi, Jeff Kent and legendary pop songwriter Ellie Greenwich.

Release, Reception and Legacy

She’s So Unusual was originally released on October 14, 1983. Buoyed by the success of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and heavy rotation on MTV, the album peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200, eventually being certified 7x Platinum in the United States. The album was also a huge hit in Canada, peaking at #1 and briefly becoming the second best-selling album by female artist during the 80s. As previously mentioned, it became the first album by a female artist to yield 4 Top 5 singles. She’s So Unusual was the 11th best-selling album of 1984 and 28th best-selling album of 1985 in the United States. Ultimately, She’s So Unusual has sold over 16,000,000 copies worldwide.

The album also received critical acclaim. Robert Christgau gave it an “A” in his Village Voice review, and personally ranked it as the 11th best album of the year for the prestigious Pazz & Jop poll. Ultimately, She’s So Unusual ranked as the 11th best album on the Pazz & Jop poll for the year of 1984. “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time” ranked as the 10th best single of the year, and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time” ranked as the 2nd and 8th best videos of the year respectively.

The album and it’s songs ultimately received 5 Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year (which was won by Lionel Richie’s Can’t Slow Down). The album won the award for Best Recording Package, and Cyndi took home the award for Best New Artist. She later wrote about being disappointed, because she wanted to sweep the Grammys like Michael Jackson had done for the record company a year earlier.

In the decades since, She’s So Unusual continues to be regarded not only as one of the greatest debut albums of all time, but one of the greatest albums of all time period. Rolling Stone ranked it as the 494th greatest album of all time in 2003, later placing it at 184 in the 2020 revision of the list. The Library of Congress also chose the album for preservation in the National Recording Registry in 2019, for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” to American life.

Ultimately, She’s So Unusual serves as a prime example of the impact of early MTV: How a talented singer-songwriter with an eye catching image, a great set of song, and imaginative videos was able to became a pop superstar at the age of 30.

Discussion

  1. What is your favorite song on the album? Least favorite song?

  2. If you had made a video for “All Through the Night”, what would your concept look like?

  3. Do you think the cover art also helped the success of the album? Why or why not?

  4. Which artists do you feel like were inspired by Cyndi and this album?

[TOMT][SONG][2010s] Recent-ish indie pop rock synth song - I know the melody but none of the lyrics or the band name

Think Temples, Tame Impala, Empire of the Sun, MGMT. I can hear it in my head! Help me hear it on YouTube.

This is rocky - don't let my Vocaroo throw you off into thinking this is from a Pokemon stage. The vocals sound distant, kind of lo-fi but on purpose.

Here's the vocal melody as best as I can recreate it. I'm fairly confident this is the exact melody (the song is not from an anime or cartoon or Coraline - I'm just not very good at finding free websites that you can create melodies on which sound like psychedelic indie pop rock):

Looping version (give it a second to load): http://onlinesequencer.net/1205637

EDIT: Thanks so much, everyone. It's Django Django - Found Youu/mrjohnclare cracked it. I had the tempo too fast in my head.

I've now got so many great music recommendations from this one post that I decided to make a playlist, in case anyone else wants to hear the bands name-checked here. I included a little bit of everything named in the comments (but left out Kids, Time to Pretend and Pumped Up Kicks because we've all heard them too many times in our lives already).

What was your first favourite contemporary pop/rock song as a kid?

As in something that was charting at the time and you discovered by yourself, not something from out of your parents/older siblings record collection.

For me it was More Than This by Roxy Music when I was 9. I was totally obsessed with that song after I heard it on the radio.

Kinda prescient maybe as later I became fascinated with Taoism and French existentialism.

Upbeat 90s/2000s pop/rock songs to play.

Thought there would be a thread for this but I searched and, not much.

Say I was in a cover band tasked with playing upbeat pop/rock/punk/grunge music from a generation ago. Things the crowd would enjoy. Good vibes. Nothing dark, or too much of a downer. What are some songs you would pick?

[TOMT][MUSIC] '00s or '10s pop/rock song that was likely in a commercial, ive been searching for this literally all my life

good evening reddit. im really hoping somebody out there knows what song this is. i was born in 2004 and didnt listen to music hardly at all so this had to be out of a commercial. im guessing target or some other mainstream store but i really have no idea.

here is the link to the recording i made of the guitar part, from what i remember of it. im thinking it had "lalalala" sung over it or something, in time with the strumming. i play guitar but i dont understand music theory at all so sorry if the notes dont make sense.

https://voca.ro/15uvahl4uU1Y

all i remember is, growing up, i would constantly imagine me singing and playing this song on an imaginary guitar. it was my "theme song" if you will. i had a very vivid imagination and this song for some reason always stuck with me. but now i only remember it every few months or years.

im begging for somebody to know what this is. im really hoping its a real song. im positive it is but you never know. thank you to everyone in advance

edit: i think it was a female voice or at least a higher pitched male voice

Drummer Available for alt/pop/rock band (there's a catch)

So I'll be upfront with this caveat--I haven't played drums seriously in about 10 years. (I'm 31). I used to play drums in a punk band and recorded drums for my solo music but my kit's been in storage for a long time and I'm very rusty.

I'd really love to get into a band to give me the motivation to get good again. Any band I joined would need to be patient with me while I dust the cobwebs off, but I'm very good at keeping time and confident that with some regular practice with other people I'd get there.

(To be clear, I'm at the point where I could learn songs and jam with a band and possibly play a show--it'll just probably me a few months to do anything fancy with any reliability.)

I have a kit, but live in an apartment that's no good to practice. I'd be willing to bring my kit to a practice space or use someone's.

Some of my favorite drummers are Ronnie Vannucci Jr., Scott Phillips, Jeremy Taggart, Ringo Starr, John Bonham, and Larry Mullen Jr.

Flexible about genre/influences but I can't really do metal and I'd prefer to do mainly original music. Don't care about age/style or anything like that, I'm pretty easygoing.

Unfortunately don't have any recent samples of me playing, but I can send some old stuff if it's really necessary--otherwise I'd prefer to just jam/audition somewhere like the Music Garage or something like that.

Hit me up on here if you're interested!

[TOMT] 80s pop rock song with catchy vocal melody

The singer has an androgynous voice kind of like Bronski Beat and sings something that kind of sounds like “belieeeeeeeeeeee eEEE eeeeve” in one continuous falsetto breath. The chords from memory sound like they go from Bb Major and then to Ab underneath the vocal part. It’s a pretty popular song and I heard it while grocery shopping the other day. It’s so familiar it’s driving me crazy. me trying to play the melody from memory
