It's totally stunning, a giant white phal with small and demure pink streaks behind the petals. The blooms are massive, some are almost the size of a grapefruit in diameter. Most are softball sized. Cascading blooms doubled up on each side of the flower spike.

The plant itself if she were stretched out at the flower spikes would easily be 4 ft in height if not slightly higher. The leaves are giant, and the roots are thick as a sharpie around.

But I'm fairly new to keeping orchids. The ones I have currently are mini phals or medium sized ones. I had no idea the undertaking a giant one would be. It's harder to handle and groom at the roots. I'm currently trying to find a plastic hole pot thats big enough to handle it's height without toppling over.

I carefully handpicked this beauty out of a batch of them. I thought it was perfectly healthy, it had thick healthy roots and perfect leaves. The stems and spike itself unbothered and the blooms were perfectly fine...until I took it home.

It has a bug I can't identify that has eaten holes in the blooms, and the leaves are starting to thin out, yellow at the tip and split down the middle. I checked the underside and theres a small mound of brown thats burrowed into the leaf itself. The blooms have these tiny black lines on them which appear to be bugs. It's had bud blast since coming home and now the fully stocked flower spikes are becoming bare when it's not even time for it to lose its blooms yet. I've lost like 8 blooms so far. I'm unsure what to do about that.

A collection of mini-phals I rescued from my work canteen when they were going to be disposed of. When I got them they were severely desiccated.
