Pet reptile
My 8yr old daughter recently caught a toad outside and decided to keep it as a pet (my husband allowed this, if it'd been me she would have released it immediately). Well after a couple of weeks of this toad NOT thriving I finally convinced her to tearfully put it back outside.
Now while I was consoling her I suggested that if we researched care -together- we could consider buying her an exotic pet for her birthday in November. She immediately said "I WANT A LIZARD!!". We did a little looking together and I think we'll be doing a leopard gecko. Does it seem reasonable a 9 yr old could, with supervision, care for a leo? Is there a better option?
I HATE crickets. But I already keep dubia roaches as I have several tarantulas. From what I've read so far, they don't need to have crickets if we can do a variety of other feeders. Can a leo thrive without crickets? I'm open to basically anything else, just no fucking crickets...
Besides having a long time to do research and be prepared, I'm also making her wait until her birthday to make sure she doesn't lose interest in this pet quickly. I know they can live a long time and want to make sure she wants to be in it for the long haul.
I'm just ranting at this point but any advice/ideas/tips/whatever please send them my way!
I’m a college student, so I can’t do some of the really big lizards. I wanted to know what reptiles are the best for handling and being chill? I already have a crested gecko, but he is VERY jumpy and gets into moods.
EDIT: I’m really not a fan of bearded dragons. I know they seem like the obvious choice, but I just don’t like them for me :(
I'm new here but I don't have a pet reptile because my mother doesn't like reptiles, especially snakes and she hates snakes the most out of all reptiles. The only reptiles she likes are turtles and you have to like clean up after them like everyday.
I love reptiles and I wish I had one but I don't. Am I the only one here without a reptile or is anyone here also don't have one?
I am looking for an active, preferably diurnal lizard that can be handled. I only have space for a 40 gallon tank or similarly sized enclosure. I already have a Gargoyle Gecko so I would prefer something that is not a New Caledonian species. I would love to have a snake but my parents are very much against a snake.
My family goes on vacation for about 2 weeks most summers so the animal would need to be relatively easy to teach someone how to feed. I find omnivores the most fun to feed but that is not a requirement. Something with moderate humidity requirements would be preferred. I have access to a local reptile expo 4x a year so as long as it is an animal that would be relatively easy to find at a reptile expo (not a large reptile expo like NARBC), that will be okay. Reasonable basking temperatures (less than 110 degrees Fahrenheit) is preferred but not a deal-breaker.
I was considering some species of skink or a leopard gecko but let me know if you have any suggestions! :)
In your opinion which reptile makes the best pet?

I am researching for a pet bearded dragon I would really love to get, and then it hit me, that if I ever want to go on holiday, I would have to put him in for boarding. (There is a vet nearby to us though that treats exotic pets).
Is there an option somewhere where I can bring my future bearded dragon in for boarding rather than have someone come to our place?
Edit: Specifically in the South of Sydney if possible
